Arnav managed hardly to ask her, trying to break the silence. He gathered his strength and asked even he was hundred percent sure what will be the answer, but he wanted to hear her voice.
"Are you knitting for Di's baby?" he finally asked gently.
In another case, Khushi would jump happily hearing the question, she would go near him and show him and say 'yes, how do you find this? Is it good? Will Di like it?' She would say I have made a pink one and now I'm working on the blue one as I don't know whether it's a girl or a boy. She would ask him 'Do you prefer ladka ya ladke? A handsome rajkumaar or a cute rajkumaari?' she would giggle, laugh, and smile, but not this time. She just nodded her head in 'yes' and he felt disappointed.
Even the air missed her giggling. She never stopped talking before; she used to talk to herself, to Lakshmi, but never kept quiet like this.
He felt guilt 'I just deserve this, but she is punishing herself too.' he thought wishing her to see her smile pervading in the place; the smile which will turn his world to delight.
After what looked like eternity, her phone rang. She looked at the caller id and tried to smile as if the person who called her was looking at her. It was 'Amma'.
He sighed of relief as she picked the call and said 'hello' atleast she changed that killing mode.
She went to the poolside in order not to disturb him.
"Hello, Amma." she said hardly with not clear voice.
"I'm fine. What about you, buaji, and bauji? All fine?" she tried to get back her usual tone.
'Why didn't you call me the last two days, Khushi?' Garima asked through the phone.
"Woh Amma I was busy with something and Payal assured me that you all are fine, so I didn't." Arnav felt pain when he heard this. He was listening carefully to the call trying to catch her quiet voice.
'Give the phone to my son-in-law' Garima asked.
He pretended to be busy with something on his lap top when she came and pointed at the phone.
"What?"
"I'm fine, and you aunty?"
"Don't worry, aunty. She is just tired. She is fine"
"Ok, aunty. Bye" He diconnected the call and gave the phone to Khushi.
