(My own personal ramblings)
Lol, oh my word, what a delicious episode! LOVED IT! It certainly left me craving Golgappes!
And wow, Mr Sobti, I have now words! He never fails to deliver! Just when I think he couldn't get any better, he goes and outdoes himself, reaching new heights with each episode. Someone give the guy a Grammy ' lol
Too many scenes etched into my mind after watching this episode. It was an episode which remained faithful to the glory days; and thus continues my love affair!
How beautiful was his interaction with Garima and Buaji this episode!? It left me feeling all warm and fuzzy! Arnav always ends up rectifying his wrongs with style (ASR style that is!) no faffing about, to the point ' just the way he likes it. He saw, he heard, and he felt the pangs of guilt, just in time to make amends.
But it is interesting to note how the truth always reaches him, saving him from falling any further. His character is all about witnessing the truth, both with his ears and eyes. Compare that to Khushi who chooses to listen to her heart, and is left searching for the truth, in the hope that it will reach her in whatever shape or form. That is the strength of her faith, and a core difference between her and Arnav. But that will also be a reason for their downfall. Arnav, who is thought to be level headed, and who bases his actions on evidence, faltered when he misconstrued both what he saw and heard that ill-fated night. No matter how ridiculous Khushi's antics may seem, washing Arnav in public, pouring water over his eyes and ears, was a nice touch by the CVs, hinting at the slow, but gradual unveiling of the truth.
It is only when he overhears Buaji and Garima talk about their financial predicament does he step in. But this time he does it without stamping on their pride. And the flashbacks help him with this realisation. Love the way he asserts his rights over the family, not with pride or arrogance, but as his duty as a son-in-law. The subtle nuances in his facial expressions, which shows his gradual acceptance of his responsibilities was beautifully done. His display of emotions also reveal his thought processes, which is always a delight for the viewer, but also does wonders for his character development. Arnav/ASR is indeed a very well written character, and I can't imagine anyone but Barun doing justice to this role. Damn, I think I'm having a fangirl moment!
And if Mr Sobti excelled in his acting this episode, then so did Sanaya. I absolutely adored her acting and array of expressions this episode. Yes, that includes her seemingly annoying antics. Why you might ask? Because today, she applied reasoning to her antics, she acknowledged her foolishness and recognised her mistake when she badgered Arnav into calling Garima 'amaa'. True, she needed an earful from Garima and Buaji before this realisation fully hit her, but her facial expression clearly showed signs of guilt as soon as she crossed that line. Khushi too acknowledges her guilt once the line is crossed, just like Arnav, but I do think that line has been crossed far too many times by Arnav as well, which she very maturely bought to his attention. Loved the way she expressed herself during their heated exchange.
That moment when he fully erupted was superb. It was such an instantaneous reaction that it literally left me floored. Again, Barun's expressions were spot on, simultaneously portraying feelings of guilt, anger, frustration and helplessness. That's a rare talent! I think it's this bubbling frustration which makes him more relatable as a character. Emotions which run so deep, that it forces us to accept that it is human nature to err. And perhaps it is this aspect which makes us sympathise with Arnav that extra bit more, regardless of his erroneous ways. His dark past, of which we were shown glimpses of today, not only left me feeling unsettled, but also excused much of his past behaviour thinking it to be a result of his inner turmoil. But then where does that leave Khushi's character? And is it only Khushi who has a lot of learning to do? Either way, I love this stark contrast of innocence Vs experience, a world which cannot exist without the other, and which aptly link our main characters.
It's that very level of emotional complexity that I am waiting for in Khushi's character, for even underneath her bubbly surface, there is another hidden reality, a reality which she chooses to keep hidden. Both Arnav and Khushi express their increasing frustrations, albeit differently. This is why I don't really mind her antics, because however annoying they may seem, I believe it is her way of escaping reality. Arnav is no different; it's just that he chooses different method of alleviating his frustrations. If Arnav is patient with Khushi's overbearing antics, than Khushi too has been equally patient with Arnav's aloof and overbearing attitude. And in today's episode, whilst we saw Arnav's anger boil over, clearly being provoked by Khushi, there is a marked difference in the way both choose to confront one another. And it is Khushi who becomes the voice of reason, in front of which Arnav also becomes powerless. It is this level headedness, and maturity that has been missing from Khushi's character for quite some time. The very maturity which naniji admired and complimented in front of Anjali, but was also overheard by Arnav.
The heated exchange between Arnav and Khushi was a highly charged, yet heartbreaking moment. But it was also a very much needed moment, if only to highlight the plight of Khushi's character, and her state of conflicting emotions. She really did pour her heart out in that single exchange. A true confession made not in anger or frustration, but in helplessness. The way Sanaya portrayed these emotions through tone and facial expression was just wow, it actually made me quite teary. It was a moment in which I was able to empathise with her character, and root for her to come out victorious, if only to defend herself against viewers who fail to sympathise with her character. For once, there was no forced derision in her tone, nor was there any resentment, rather it came across almost like a plea, a plea for him to accept and acknowledge the circumstances they find themselves in. A plea for him to open his eyes and ears to the reality of the situation ' as Tanthya brilliantly explained, if only he questioned "why"; that way he would be a damn lot closer to the truth. Even in this scene, Khushi always manages to get to the crux of the matter, but now Arnav needs to take the remaining steps.
Likewise, we know Arnav is also close to snapping. It's only a matter of time before he too sheds that cold faade. Slowly, he will be forced to realise that things are not as they seem, and he will struggle to retain much of that control he so proudly boasts of. The moment he regains control of his emotions after Khushi leaves the room, acknowledging the mistake he made in the heat of the moment, he does what he does best, he goes out of his way to rectify the problem; Buying golgappe was a kind gesture, but what really sealed it for me was his heartfelt apology, followed by Buaji's display of affections, which I was not expecting! Arnav was fully in control of the situation (and his emotions) up until the point he apologised. But what he wasn't expecting was the way Buaji affectionately, and very lovingly stroked his face. It was a split second, but it that split second, you could clearly see Arnav's confusion, innocence, curiosity and desperation for such warmth. It was in those split few seconds, but Barun managed to capture every single one of those emotions in sequence. It was hands down one of the best scenes I've seen to date.
