I dont think it was pretense... he was very anoyed with that lady talking non sense about his family and he gave it to her... and he held his ground when Nani chided him for his behaviour with a guest.

Coming to reteirating that Khushi was his wife and his marriage hold...it was long overdue. He just wanted to make his family see the point he is married and get them accept the truth...typical ASR. I really doubt he did it as a pretense to be a loving and caring husband nor was he being a loving and caring husband in reality.

He was just being Arnav Singh Raizada!

I think it was both out of pretense and because he cared. Yesterday's epi we saw how much it bothered him to see Khushi being insulted, so I can see why he feels the need to defend her today. Also I think him overhearing Mami's conversation gave him a wake up call that he has to start the happily married couple act otherwise people will get suspicious, so yes it was a bit of both.
