I agree, the NK character could have been made comedic with other antics than just language. I mean, Hindi is not even my first or second language. I learned it purely out of watching Hindi movies and I speak it fluently.

i am the only who is concerned about the people who watch these serieal getting a totally wrong idea about ' westernized ' girls????? 😕 i mean sp focuses mainly on family audience right ??? i hope some of them have a critical approach about this issue...
as for nri / brought up abroad people i have to say no one understands how difficult and complicated it is to practically live in two ' worlds'.. .. unless u experience it !!!!!!!!!!!

This is my issue with all the Indian serials (not just this one), preaching to the Desi audiences that any girl who dresses Western attire must always be characterless. I see this stereotype in real life too and it makes me sick.

yah i agree...but one thing this is india n its multicultural country...here we wear indian clothes ...so diff people hav diff thinking n diff perspective......

I am an NRI, been here most of my life. I look and talk "Western" and my morals are no less sound that Khushi's. In fact, I am more conservative than even Khushi. I would also not wear a short dress to a mandir, I have enough sense not to do that (like La is shown doing in the show). I wear short skirts, but I am also very proper about it.

What is this portrayal of NRI women by Indian actors? Why do they agree to do this? I have been to India and I have seen more women in salwars who are WAY more forward than me(i agree ). Many have had more than one physical relationship. I am not judging them, but I am judged by many. Dressing a certain way does not tell you anything about a person's morals. Yet these shows always show the girls in short shirts as "character dhela." What the fish (😆as SRK would say)?

I am not saying Indian serials show reality, but at least they should be responsible not to increase stereotypes that already exist in the Indian subcontinent. Is that too much to ask?

not all indian serials show that ...they even show western dressed girl nice n good...n as per la when she tranformed ...she weared western as well as indian clothes both...

where to start..
while mostly true not always
kitni mohabbat hai 2- aruhi was quite modern and was seen in all kinds of outfits
dmg- while riddhima was mostly indian wear.. her sister was always western...was shown as tough as nails but with strong morals, good friend, good sister.. a complete career woman
While I dislike stereotypes.. they exist everywhere..manytimes in this world, we generalise and then make exceptions..it is hardwired in the human brain in many ways

I agree. I hated how they portrayed La at the beginning of this show.just because she was westernized nani rejected La.

Sanskar and good values has nothing to do with being Desi or westernized.

I so agree empathize and sympathize with what you have put so succintly. I returned here some time back and yes whatever you have written resonates so well with me. I don't let it bother me anymore. and if at times it does I have learnt to let it go. Time is too precious to waste on people places and situations not in my control and who i cannot do anything to change about😊

this is true. i'm a muslim bengali and have been wearing the hijab since yr7 but i do mix wesern clothes into my cupborad cuz
1) its comfortable, 😆
and 2) why not?! (cuz i'm still staying with the muslim limit, ie cover chest, arms etc)

but there is ALWAYS this sterotype that even if i wear western clothes i'm deems 'bad' as it were, lol. come on!! i'm only replacing a churidar material with a denim one 😆. not evryone thinks this ofcourse but majority. its stupid narrowminded thinking and i just say if i am happy the way i look and god is, then that's all that matters.
