I am an NRI, been here most of my life. I look and talk "Western" and my morals are no less sound that Khushi's. In fact, I am more conservative than even Khushi. I would also not wear a short dress to a mandir, I have enough sense not to do that (like La is shown doing in the show). I wear short skirts, but I am also very proper about it.
What is this portrayal of NRI women by Indian actors? Why do they agree to do this? I have been to India and I have seen more women in salwars who are WAY more forward than me. Many have had more than one physical relationship. I am not judging them, but I am judged by many. Dressing a certain way does not tell you anything about a person's morals. Yet these shows always show the girls in short shirts as "character dhela." What the fish (đas SRK would say)?
I am not saying Indian serials show reality, but at least they should be responsible not to increase stereotypes that already exist in the Indian subcontinent. Is that too much to ask?
