How much change is too much change?

I have mixed feelings about this Redux so far after two days for various reasons, but most specifically for some cop outs from Harneet which sort of show the limitations of her writing once againšŸ˜•.

On one hand, the claim from the writer that everything must be changed in this AU...yet Shivaay still retains most of his core traits...still angry, still ruthless (capable of threatening to kill ppl almost casually), still cooks, still has the same to the point relationship with Tia. The few minor changes feel mostly cosmetic...he no longer wears colorful suits, doesn't dance, doesn't seem to share as close a relationship with his brothers.

Oh and HS has given him the stock sobby back story that she likes to give to most of her other male leads.

So here I pause to ask...in the zeal to do the "opposite" of something, do you take what was once unique and dial it all the way to general TRP cliches? In the zeal to be "different", do you ironically end up becoming exactly what is there in every other show on TV?šŸ˜•

This is even more apparent in Anika's AU characterization which has been completely flipped...ok if they wanted to take away her bubbliness, her spunk, her crazy lingo...but two days running now we have been given PROLONGED scenes of her being all pitiful...whether it is filling water in a bucket and falling again and again in the mud while doing that or today making dosas in the rain, burning her hand, the tarp flying off her thelašŸ˜•...it is one thing to show the STRUGGLE of an individual...it's another thing to play it up in a sobby manner...is this really the only way to show "resilience"? By first making someone sob so pitifully, constantly be barraged with taunts or ppl shouting at her and show one shot of her still trying to keep going? Is this supposed to be my entertainment now? šŸ˜•

And again I pause to ask...in the zeal to make this AU Anika the complete opposite of original Anika, was it necessary to strip her of every ounce of strength? Is the opposite of strong only to be completely pitiful? There is no such thing as a middle path with nuances? Do only two types of girls exist in this world? Completely spunky or completely docile and pitiful? There is no middle ground? Well God knows then what most of us are in this worldšŸ˜•

It's like Harneet didn't even bother to think beyond an autopilot opposite characterization...lol and not that I mind it but how much thought does it even take to simply switch Tia to a simple, sweet girl now?

The purpose seems only to set up every character as a for or against prop for the possibility of Shivika meeting...lol that didn't really require a host of character flips like a half-baked Fan fiction...if all that stands in the way of Shivika meeting is every character doing the opposite of what they did before, well then that is amateurishly imagined...Circumstances can play a better part than token character flips.

I see in the upcoming BTS that Anika might show some spine in front of the Chaachi in the coming days...but I'm really not sure where Harneet is going with this...some shifts are needed in Shivika's characterization beyond the token opposite flips to actually make this work IMO and I seriously need a break from the daily "Haaye bechaari" Anika scenes if they can possibly reduce that🄱

I personally am willing to give the redux a chance if Anika isn't given such a cliched abla naari characterization...I can deal with some changes but not this extent of changes where Anika is just taking atyachaar from anyone and crying all the time.

NM-SC are acting well even now but the writing needs to be better than this. I get that HS wants to convey that Shivika can still do anything for their families but the WAY it's being shown for Anika especially is too much of a sob story.

Nobody watches IB for depressive TRP bahus, in case HS hasn't understood that till now.

I m toh pehalese not liking these character changes...
If the purpose of the redux was a what if scenario and promoting it saying what would have happened if thy hadn't meet in the mandir...

Well in my opinion if writers / producers are really commited to this track then thy could have still developed a good story plot... Without drastically changing the characters of Shivay & Anika...

i m already tired of watching this bechari se sobbing Anika...

Thy r already dragging it a bit & taking too long to set up the story... Hope viewers bhi bache dekhanekeliye whn thy actually meet ...

pre-cap bhi wahi repeat kar rahe hain which is annoying now...

It's kinda funny how inconsistent the so called "opposite traits" theory is...Khanna is still exactly the same...so is Sahil...lol why not change them too? OmRu have only changed their professions, they still do the same comedy around Shivaay.

Now Prinku is also coming I hear...so just conveniently flip her to "fearless" Prinku for the sake of an AU...but what is the point of all of this if the core vis a vis Shivika is compromised? Fearless Prinku ka achaar daalenge hum? lol

LOL to me what's funny is that Shivaay has basically been rebooted back to early Shivaay in some ways but he's still more or less the same...it's not a totally new character in this AU...it's just shades of darkness...like giving him a few more demons to battle with but this is not a totally new guy...but with Anika, they have literally made her a TOTALLY DIFFERENT girl...so why the discrepancy is my question...why not such DRASTIC changes with Shivaay too? Usko bhi Mahi banaa dete...some tapori in a chawl would be the total opposite of Shivaay, no?šŸ˜›šŸ˜†

When they only change Anika so drastically and keep Shivaay more or less the same, it all feels half baked.

LOL they are taking time to set this up cuz this time they want to make this play out till the end...there doesn't seem to be a plan to go back na...lol so isko hi drag karenge.

To be brutally honest if this was IB 1.0 instead of Redux I would have never watched because there is nothing unique or different about it. This is more of the same that those 800 other shows offer and probably better. This Anika would have put me off. The spunky Anika was what attracted me to IB 1.0. If I am watching this Redux it's because now I am ready far too invested in Shivika and NM-SC. For that I am prepared to be patient watch this play out a bit more especially until Shivika meet and how those dynamics turn out to be before passing judgement. At the moment I am not sure what to feel.

But patience is not infinite. So while I understand they are still setting up a whole new story, they need to pick up pace and need to dial down on Anika's rona dhona. We already get the point that life is daily struggle for survival for her. There is no need to draw it out so much.

So far it's all very mopey. I am telling myself (because if I don't I will soon lose patience) that this is because Shivika were dramatically torn apart in a moment even if they don't know how. That the loss and grief was too huge and so the way they were in the immediate aftermath which was at the start of the Redux was a consequence of that. Because they were still grappling with the loss because not withstanding the mind games their connection was so strong it could be completely put asunder. That they will slowly find pieces of themselves even while something will continue to stay missing until they find their way back to each other. I hope that is the case and this weeping Anika is not dragged out too much. I really don't know how Harneet is planning to go ahead and I don't have enough confidence to make that leap of faith. At the moment I am watching with a cautious wariness not at sure where this is going. I think we will have a better clue once Shivika actually meet and what happens then. But that better happen soon before much of fandom loses patience.

Having said all that NM-SC having been hitting it out of the park all of this week while so seamlessly and effortlessly transitioning into the new character all in the span of just one episode from playing a happy very much in love Shivika to this.

LOL they only showed that on Monday...after that there has been no sense of a deja vu and it's just a daily dose of bechaargi overload to establish how lost and pitiful Shivika now are...we are supposed to PRESUME it's cuz they have been torn apart and are adrift in a sense...lol but as this AU shapes into the real world for the show currently, these traits start to solidify...now Anika's anchor is her sister...Shivaay still cooks but doesn't eat...lol...these all just feel like disparate things not really coming together...lol

Yes, only Shivika meeting will give some idea where this is going but seeing how HS is drawing this out and pandering to fandom fantasies of "beast" Shivaay again, I just sense more cliches coming our way which I dunno if I'll have the patience for.

Agree. Anika's sad story is being stretched way too muchšŸ˜”. I am hoping things will be better after Shivika meet. But I am guessing that will be next week.

It is a half baked track for sure...

Shivay ka beast mode too looked half baked to me ...he looked like phyco with the way he offered those chocolates and all...

Thy will go back to original plot IF thy get huge backlash & consistent drop in TRPs ... & honestly roti Anika majority of times has failed on TRPs...
