SHORT FOURTEEN
Just yesterday she arrived and since then she dumped herself into work. She was practically doing every work in the orphanage from babysitting to dusting to handling the toys and other stuff. Even she was informed that she had a project to work on in the college and she did that too. She didn't even cared how and what was going to be her state the time she got free, but knowing her state right now, the best thing she knew was to work and work till she slept, like she did yesterday. Mere the thoughts of the mansion, the people and especially him were haunting her every time she closed her eyes shut, mind pondering over the same thing again and again.
Yes, it was a special day today for her since it was the day she and her mother celebrated her birthday. Since she was orphan, her mother just chose a day out of the blue to make her happy when she was a kid. Never did she knew that she will once have to celebrate it alone. She was never a person who would celebrate anything alone so she decided to only work out the things for the upcoming charity function planned by the orphanage as a fund raiser. What would she do even if she decided to celebrate it? Without him, no festival or day was special, it never was and it never will be.
She jumped when out of a sudden she heard the bell rung. Thinking who would be there she opened the gate unprepared for the one outside. She was shocked would be an understatement, it was as if you would have seen a ghost in the middle of the night. Her brain then signaled that it was not any ghost but actually the most biggest anything' that happened to her.
He on the other side was looking terrible. Hair messed up, bags under the eyes he appeared sleepy as hell. Still in his suit which actually surprised her. How was that possible that she was just thinking about him and he appeared suddenly in her kitchen? Or is it a teleportation service started by the God that he came straight from his probably sleep to her house?
"Hii he greeted her.
She looked sat her wrist watch only to get to know that it was ten at night. Thinking it was just a dream of hers, she blinked her eyes as many times as she could only to find out that it was actually real. Omkara Singh Oberoi was actually standing in front of her shabby girls hostel.
"Why are you here? she asked because she had to. How on the earth did he know where she was living. Not opening his mouth he almost barged in her room not even caring about an invitation. Gauri sighed as her palms rolled into her fists clenched tight. "Aap yahan kya kar rahe hain? she spoke again thinking maybe he would understand better in his mother tongue. Still in utter disbelief she walked to him.
He did not answered anything as he straight went to her couch, which was worn out and sat there "mujhe bohot neend aa rahi hai he yawned making him even more horrible to her.
Did he came all the way from Mumbai to sleep? God this is horrible. She rolled her eyes on this.
"Really? But as far as I know you have a big king size bed in the mansion don't you? Then why on the earth are you here? To steal my bed? she asked seriously as she walked to him. "Really? You will let me sleep in your bed? he eyed her meaningfully and sexily. She again rolled her eyes back. He smirked.
"Please get out, I.. I just don't want you here she signaled towards the gate wanting him to move out. Only if she could drag him but poor her, she could not. Another frustration attack was when she removed his jacket, threw it on her couch with his shoes and socks laying down. He then jumped onto obviously her bed and eased himself stretching his arms and legs yawning.
This was insane according to her. How come he could suddenly enter her room, throw his things, take her bed and sleep like nothing ever happened? "Please just get out she yelled at him. "Aahista bolo Gauri, your neighbors will hear us he smirked again. Neighbors? Oh yeah the gossip girls next door who would keep an eye on every room each day only to let the warden know if anyone had a visitor and visitors means boyfriends here.
For sometime she stood there watching him with her wide eyes thinking about how did he know where she was, about the girls or anything here.
Not wanting to think anymore she went inside her small kitchen, you could not call it a kitchen because it was only a shelf where they kept a small stove and some supplies to help them whenever they felt their usual midnight hunger. She as usual decided on pasta with white sauce, though it was crazy to cook it here but it was something she did every night and she was used to it. Putting the pasta in the water and the pot on the stove she decided to move out and wrap up her work for today.
She walked towards her room looking at him sleeping peacefully hugging her pillow as if inhaling her scent. She did not wanted to wake him up, because he actually felt like he was exhausted but then she had no guts to let him be here and lose herself once more. He was here even when he knew that it would cause her danger. Not able to control herself she walked to him and pulled up the sheets to cover him. Putting her hands on his cheek she stared at him for long, trying to find out something inside her... Like her lost love.
Wiping her tears back she stood up and walked to the kitchen to prepare the pasta. She was still reworking the sauce on the pasta when she felt someone at her back. In seconds two arms looped across her waist like a snake. She jumped in astonishment when she felt him touching her back. "Relax Gauri, it's me he spoke in his ever husky voice. "How do you know I didn't had dinner he looked over her right shoulder, smiling. "It's not for you, so stop imagining things she snapped angrily. "I am really hungry. Wouldn't you share this with me? she rolled her eyes again this time not on him but on her own self for giving up. "Only if you leave me she said but his hands grew tight "I love your smell... I really missed this he husked again.
"Chodiye she struggled "if you want to eat then let me go she said as she felt him leaving her waist. He walked past her grabbing the plates when she moved out as he set the table for two. "Here, and thank you for not killing me with hunger she sighed not wanting to reply. They sat to have food when suddenly she choked it. Omkara rushed to her tapping her back and then to the kitchen to get her water. "Here, have it she didn't took. "Come on Gauri, bas paani hi toh hai he placed the glass almost on her lips while she only sipped it looking at him.
Fed up of her own self giving up she stood up, took the plates and walked past him to the kitchen. He was still there watching her leaning over the kitchen. She again walked past him going back to the hall.
"Gauri... he called her. "Please... Hume bilkul samajh nahi aa raha ki aap yahan kyun aaye hain. Aur wo bhi aaj. Please go.. Leave me she cried trying hard to swallow the lump in her throat.
"Gauri I am really sorry main kya... he stopped when he saw her "hold this he held the vase she handed him. "Smash it he furrowed "what? she was still calm "throw it on the ground and he did that. "Now say sorry she ordered "huh? he tried to confirm. "I said say sorry she almost yelled with her eyes teared up. He knew what did she wanted to say. A broken vase can never be joined, and nothing can help it to become what it was before it was smashed mercilessly. Tears geared up in his eyes also. "I said say sorry she practically yelled this time. "So...Sorry he chocked.
"Did it join? he reminded silent. "I asked a question Mr Oberoi. Did it join? she looked at him when he finally spoke "N..no. "A sorry cannot join a simple vase Me Oberoi, dil aur jazbaat toh phir bhi bohot badi cheez hai she let out a short humorless chuckle.
