Jijaji
Putting on small, red heart earrings, Annika was getting getting ready for work. Flipping her hair back, she checked herself out in the mirror. She frowned. Checking her top, Annika wondered if it looked good before she left. Annika contemplated mentally wondering if it mattered.
There was a knock against the door.
Annika turned to the noise, "It's open!" She shouted for the person opening the door to hear and enter on there own.
The door opened. "It's me!" Shivaay shouted back at Annika to inform her who entered her home. At the door step, Shivaay looked around the house. He saw Sahil, who was cutely minding his own business, writing on a paper at the table.
"I know!" Annika retorted in an sarcastic tone to mock the shred and infuriating man. Annika sighed to herself as she looked in the mirror, what kind of fate is this? Having to see Baghad Billa's face early in the morning, there was only sorrow.
"If you know, then hurry up and get out here. I'm getting late for an urgent meeting. I don't have all day!" Irritated, Shivaay spat at his wedding planner.
"Fine!" And just for that, Annika decided she was going to take her sweet time just spite Shivaay and his impatience.
Shivaay grit his teeth. He cursed his fate. Why did this have to happen to him? He remembered that day clearly.
~flashback starts~
Annika was standing on the stairs, she was in deep thought. Tia added a guest to the list after Annika confirmed everything with the table management and the per plate of each rasam. From the engagement to the reception, she had planned who would be where. This new friend of Tia's threw her off because Annika had to try and fit the new friend somewhere and the question was where?
In that much, Shivaay who was walking down the steps, stopped at Annika. He stared at her incredulously.
"Annika, why are you standing here like a statue? Move!" Shivaay barked but got no response. He gauged her zoned out mode. What happened to her?
"Annika?"
No response.
"Annika?!"
Still no response.
"ANNIKA!!" Shivaay screamed on the top of his lungs.
Annika shook out her trance and flinched at Shivaay's screaming. Startling her, Annika yelped as she stepped back. Chameli broke in that instance and she slipped and began to fall over. Shivaay tried to reach out and grab Annika but failed.
The next thing Annika remembered was finding herself in a world of pain. She heared Shivaay call out to her in concern. Annika winced in pain. "Annika, say something! Are you okay?" Shivaay plead to girl.
"Do I look okay to you?" Annika hissed in frustration. The family gathered at the noise.
"Billu, what happened?!" Dadi cried out first.
Shivaay looked to everyone. Annika fell down the stairs. The gasped.
"I'll call the doctor." Omkara stepped to the side and pulled out his phone.
"Shivaay, let's take her to a room and her rest there till the doctor comes." Pinky suggested in concern for the poor girl.
"Right!" Shivaay lifted Annika gently into his arms, and carried her to a guest room with the family following close behind.
~
"She is suffering no internal bleeding or any serious injuries," The doctor had begun to explain to the Oberois, "but her right leg was broken. I have casted it but it will take time to heal. It might be a couple weeks till it's fully healed. Till then, Ms. Annika should limit her walking."
The Oberois frowned for Annika. Leaving his best wishes meekly against the wealthy family, the doctor took his leave.
Dadi sat beside Annika on the bed, caressing her hair. "Puttar, how did this happen?" She gently lifted Annika's chin.
"I think you should ask your grandson that question. He seems to like scaring me." Annika said in a bitter tone as she was left beyond annoyed knowing her leg broke because of a certain someone.
The Oberois started staring at Shivaay, who nervously explained his side of the story.
"Kya Bhaiya, you could have moved to the side and went pasted her. What was the point of making her fall? You wouldn't have lost your ego if you stepped to the side. Not everyone can move, sometimes you need to walk past them." Rudra joked.
Saumya rolled her eyes at the joke. "Bade Bhaiya, it's okay. I know you didn't mean to hurt Annika Di, but I think you should say sorry."
"Leave it Saumya, him and sorry don't mix." Annika remarked, much to Shivaay's displeasure as he raised an eyebrow in pride.
"Whether Billu says sorry or not, he'll be punished." Dadi shook her head, glancing at Shivaay. Annika looked uncharacterically happy at Dadi, waiting for the punishment to be given out.
Puzzled, Shivaay gave a terrified look back. "What? Dadi, wait-"
"No. You listen. From here on, until Annika's leg is healed, you will drive her home and back." Dadi ordered, much to Shivaay and Annika's horror. Rudra giggled quietly in the background.
~flashback ends~
And ever since then, this has become a routine. Shivaay closed his eyes in frustration of the memory. The ordeal left Tia entirely uncomfortable with it, but for Dadi, he swallowed Tia's anger. Becoming more and more impatient, Shivaay's eyes burst open as he yelled out again, "Hurry up, Annika! I'm getting late!"
"Will you relax? The world won't end just because Shivaay Singh Oberoi got late to his meeting. I thought the world worked at your pace not you worked at the world's pace." Annika snapped back from the other room.
Shivaay grit his teeth irritated by the girl. "Yeah, but the deal might go otherwise..." Shivaay muttered to himself, knowing that Annika couldn't possibly understand him.
At the table, Sahil watched quietly. It was fun to watch the Baghad Billa and Annika Di fighting in front of him. Just like that time his Annika Di threw water at Baghad Billa. Those were the days. Sighing to himself, Sahil looked pitifully at Shivaay, as he assured. "Relax, Jijaji, be patient. It'll be alright. I just know it."
Shivaay huffed at the child. "Yeah, I know, I-" Stopping midway, Shivaay looked to Sahil incredulously. "D-Did you just call me Jijaji?" Blinking, waiting for an answer, Shivaay watched the child look away for a moment.
"Why? Did you not like that one? Okay, what about Baghad Jiju?" Sahil calmly offered, not being unnerved by a glare that was shot at him by the shrewd man.
"W-What? I'm not your Jijaji." Shivaay kindly informed. "So stop your nonsense."
"So? You say that as if you aren't going to be. I'm willing to bet you two will end up getting married." Sahil shrugged his shoulders.
"What does that mean? In case you don't know, your Annika Didi is my wedding planner NOT my fiancee." Shivaay informed.
Sahil retorted. "I know you two can't go a day without fighting each other. One way or another, you always end up fighting my Annika didi. Your day doesn't start without the cat and mouse banter."
Shivaay tilted his head at the child as he continued. "You know, I have a friend named Arjun. His mom and dad are always fighting like cat and mouse too, over every little thing. Just like you guys, as if you two are already husband-wife, an old married couple."
"Do you even hear yourself?" Shivaay started with a lost patience. "Me and Annika? Please." Shivaay put a hand in the air. "I feel bad for the person she'll end up marrying. For the rest of his life, Annika will drive him insane. The poor guy."
"Excuse you?" Annika entered the scene, raising an eyebrow, with a crutch in her support. She heard everything. Shivaay and Sahil looked to Annika, who seemed annoyed at the comment. "First, Sahil, stop." Annika warned her little brother who turned away immediately and then turned to Shivaay next. "And you, please, the guy who I end up with will be the luckiest man in the world because he would find no one better than me." Annika said in an FYI tone to Shivaay.
"I beg to differ, you're insane. Have you looked in the mirror? Or heard yourself speak?" Shivaay concluded.
"Really, and by the way, I would never want to marry you, Shivaay Singh Oberoi, because zindagi bhar you'd drive me insane with your infinite, unlimited tadibaaazi." Annika scoffed at the businessman. "In fact, I feel bad for Tia and wonder how she puts up with you." Annika flipped her hair in tadi.
"I'd drive you insane?" Shivaay wondered if he heard that right, as he spoke with irony as though Annika wasn't already insane herself.
"Yes! Am I speaking Chinese?" Annika confirmed before Shivaay even before he finished the sentence.
"How could I drive you insane, you're already insane! And it'll be YOU that drives ME insane with your nonstop, nonsensical blabbering for the rest of my life. It comes out like a waterfall, unending." Shivaay trifled back as he did the action that signified vomiting as he was trying to show Annika what she was like.
"I blabber nonstop?" Annika blazed as she pondered whether he knew what he was saying, as she spoke with irony imitating Shivaay.
"Yes! Am I speaking Chinese?" Shivaay confirmed before Annika even before she finished the sentence. "With you and your strange words!"
"I have strange words, but atleast I'm not like you with your gigantic ego that drips out of you like it were your own sweat. Marrying you would be a death sentence. Wouldn't it just be better I drown myself before it comes to that?" Annika concluded in tadi. The duo huffed away from each other as their banter was over and in came the silence. Sahil face-palmed as he watched the cat and mouse go at it. They really could start anytime and anywhere over anything. He calmly spoke.
"Not that this isn't funny, but aren't you two getting late?"
Realization struck. Shivaay and Annika's eyes widened. "Yes! Let's go, hurry up!" Shivaay ordered as he started rushing out the door.
"Bye Sahil," Annika started to move out the door and waved goodbye. "And remember to stay here and wait for Seema Aunty to drop you off to school, okay bye."
"Bye!" Sahil waved back as he watched SSO and Annika Didi leave. In the quiet silence that loomed the home, Sahil pondered to himself. "What am I going to do with these two?" Pressing his forehead, Sahil went back to his writing.
The End.
