Part 3
Tej Singh Oberoi knew every nook and cranny of this house. He knew the quickest routes and of the disused hallways and it was one of those that he took to enter the Oberoi Mansion undetected.
Today was a big day for his family and he didn't want to cause any drama. He made his way to Shivaay's room as fast as he could and unlocked the closet door. The door opened to reveal a troubled looking Shivaay who was relieved to see him. 'Dad!' Shivaay hugged Tej. 'Who did this to you?' Tej asked. 'Om,' came the answer. On hearing Omkara's name, Tej was shocked. 'Why would he do this to you?' I don't know Dad but we've got a wedding to stop.' Shivaay didn't want to waste any more time. 'Not we son, just you. I don't want any trouble.' Shivaay sprinted downstairs hoping he wasn't too late.
'Vivaah samparna hua,' (the wedding is done) stated the Pandit. Rudra and Omkara were relieved, for now. Shivaay who was now at the top of the stairs heard it too. 'I'm late,' he thought to himself but he could still create some drama. After all, the only thing worse than a bride who was jilted at the altar was one who was cheated. Shivaay was about to climb down the stairs when he felt himself being pulled back.
Shivaay came face to face with a worried looking Tej. 'There's nothing we can do son. They are married now. Let's just wait for the family.' As much as Shivaay wanted to ruin Gauri. He didn't want to make himself himself to look bad. 'There'll be other chances' he thought.
Slowly the guests began to leave one by one until it was just the family left. 'Oh my mata. I can't believe my little girl is married. Tere Papa hote to kitne khush hote,' (Had your father been alive, he would've been so happy) Pinky spoke through teary eyes. Rudra put a hand over her shoulder. 'Acha to samdhan ji, ab hum bhi chalte hai. Kal Pag Phere ki rasam ki tayyari karni hai.' (We'll take your leave now. We have to prepare for the pag phera ritual tomorrow) 'Mom I think we should stay.' Rudra said with a serious face.
Gauri who stayed mum throughout the whole dialogue felt uneasy due to Shivaay's silence so she touched his face to make sure he was okay. What she felt shocked her. Instead of Shivaay's clean shaven face, she felt a full beard. She quickly knocked the turban off only to come face to face with a long haired man. 'Who are you?' Gauri demanded. 'Om,' Jhanvi answered, shocked. 'Oh my mata, ye Shivaay nahi hai!(This isn't Shivaay) Pinky said, stating the obvious. 'Om? Why are you here and what have you done with Shivaay?' Gauri shouted. 'Ri, let me explain,' Rudra cut her off. 'Beech mein mat bolo Rudra. (Don't interrupt me) Why did you take Shivaay's place? Shivaay warned me you were a psycho. Now I know why. Now will you explain yourself?' Gauri spoke in a tone she didn't know she possessed. Omkara opened his mouth to answer but nothing came out.
'Main batata hoon,' (I'll tell you) Shivaay's voice echoed through the now empty house as he made his way down the stairs. 'Omkara knocked me unconscious so he could take my place.' 'But why would he do that?' Jhanvi spoke trying to make sense of it all. 'Because he ruins people. That's just what he does. He just wants to have everything of mine. First Dad, now Gauri.' Shivaay smirked at Omkara. 'That's not true,' Omkara said silently. Omkara narrated the events of this morning to them. When he was done, they all looked shocked. Shivaay broke the silence 'You always were good at making up stories.' 'Actually he isn't making anything up. I spoke to my sister and she confirmed the story. I asked Omkara to marry Gauri,' this time it was Rudra who spoke. 'Shivaay is this true? Jhanvi asked. 'Of course not Mom,' before he could even finish, Shivaay felt a hard slap across his face.
'Not another word from you Shivaay! I can't believe you would stoop so low. This is why you were in such a hurry to stop the wedding. You have proved that it is my blood that courses through your veins,' Tej spoke with fury in his eyes. Shivaay went up to his mother 'Are you seeing this Mom? Dad slapped me for him.' Jahnvi ignored Shivaay and went up to Omkara, 'Why didn't you come to me Om?' 'Even you Mom? You ignore your own son for him, the one who broke your house and our family. Woh sautela hai!,' (He is illegitmate) Shivaay spoke in a broken voice. 'Enough! He is my son but the sad thing is you weren't. I will deal with you later. For now, make yourself scarce.' Let's go son,' Tej held on to a broken Shivaay.
'I want an annulment,' Gauri who had been quiet all this time finally spoke. 'Gauri give Omkara a chance.' Rudra tried to pacify his sister. She raised her hand to stop him and Rudra thought it was best to leave it at that. 'All my life people have been making decisions for me. Take up the family business, marry a stranger who turns out to be my sister's ex.' She looked at Pinky, who now looked guilty. Finally get married to someone I barely know who wants to be my saviour and a brother who thought I couldn't handle being jilted,' Gauri finished. Jhanvi just wanted to take the poor child into a hug. 'To say we've had a long day would be an understatement. Let's sleep it off and we'll talk about it in the morning' Jhanvi now turned to Gauri. 'Gauri beta go to your room,' Gauri looked in the direction of Shivaay's room. She knew she wouldn't be able to step in that room, let alone sleep in it. As if reading her thoughts, Omkara spoke up 'my room is to the left.' Gauri made her way up the stairs. Rudra and Pinky left too. Omkara was about to follow her when Jhanvi stopped him. 'I think you should sleep in the guest room tonight.'
Once inside the room, Gauri fell to the floor. She waited for tears to come but nothing happened. She felt numb. She knew sleep wouldn't come easy to her so she looked through the room to keep herself occupied.
In the guest room, Omkara was finally making sense of what happened. He ran his fingers through his hair and that's when he noticed the ring. He got his phone out and hit redial. Upon receiving no answer, he gently removed the ring and placed it in a drawer.
