Prologue
Gauri put the final touches to her make up and pinned her red ghunghat (veil) on. She had dreamt of this day ever since she was a little girl, scribbling away in her notebook, crossing out old ideas and adding new ones in. Now that little girl was all grown up, her book long forgotten but not before she etched every single detail to memory.
Two big palms suddenly covered her eyes. 'My eye make up Ruud,' Gauri smiled and turned around to face her brother. 'My older sister, about to be married. Where did the time go?' Rudra said dramatically. This earned him a smack on his arm. 'I'm only a minute older than you,' Gauri replied, annoyed. 'Older being the operative word Ri.' Rudra cackled. 'I wish di was here.' Gauri sniffed. 'Me too but right now she needs some time alone,' Rudra answered, suddenly serious. Soon Gauri's best friend, Richa entered the room. Rudra knew this was his cue so he dashed off but not before kissing Gauri on her forehead, followed by a thumbs up.
Gauri sat in front of the mirror and took her reflection in. 'A green saree, just like in your book,' Richa mused. 'It was my Mother's,' Gauri beamed. 'Your something old... how's this for something borrowed?' Richa said adding a delicate brooch over her pallu, which Gauri recalled being Richa's favourite from their teenage years. 'But what about your something blue?' Richa asked, pretending to think. 'I know,' Richa squealed. 'Shivaay's eyes!'
In another room, Shivaay held a picture of Gauri in his hand. He ran his thumb over her cheek. 'The day is finally here, my dear Gauri,' and his lips pressed into a smile.
