Part 2
'He's not dead. Just unconscious,' Omkara replied calmly. Who are you anyway?' he added, a little annoyed now. Rudra bent down a placed a finger near Shivaay's nostrils; he was relieved when he felt Shivaay breathing. 'I suppose I could ask you the same question,' Rudra said, now standing up. 'Omkara.' came the reply from the long haired man. 'The elusive brother,' Rudra paused, 'I see. I'm Rudra.' Rudra who?' asked Omkara, with a are-you-stupid' look on his face. 'I'm Gauri's twin.' and who is this Gauri?' Omkara was tired of this KBC. 'Your brother's bride!' Rudra said with finality, giving him the same 'are-you-stupid' look Omkara had given him a few moments ago.
Omkara filled Rudra in about what transpired between the two brothers; how Shivaay only wanted to marry Gauri for revenge and how he would make her life miserable. Rudra was unsure whether to believe him. After all, here was a man who had knocked his brother unconscious, on his wedding day no less. Add in the fact that no one had seen or heard from him before today, Rudra had a cocktail on his hands. As if sensing his confusion, Om finally spoke up. I know what it looks like but you have got to trust me. Listen, why don't you call your sister and she will tell you what's what.' 'Gauri?' Rudra asked with some confusion. Anika.' Omkara wanted to pull his hair out now.
Rudra got off the phone to Anika, who confirmed that Shivaay and her dated for a while but broke up. When his efforts to win her back failed, he sent a proposal to her house, which Anika refused. Their Mother, Pinky couldn't fathom why Anika would reject someone who was practically royalty. Later Shivaay made up some story about how there had been a mix up and it was Gauri he wished to marry. Pinky was elated and despite Anika's protests, went ahead and accepted the proposal. Gauri didn't have the heart to say no to her mother. She figured she had to marry someone someday so why not him? He seemed decent enough. When all of Anika's pleas fell on deaf ears, she wished her sister the best and left the city. To date Gauri and Rudra couldn't understand their sister's peculiar behaviour but today it all made sense.
Rudra was furious and demanded why Anika hadn't confided in him. She admitted that had her mother found out about her relationship, she would force her to marry Shivaay. The woman was relentless. Rudra didn't have the energy to carry on so he hung up on Anika, promising her that he would sort this mess out.
So what now?' he asked Omkara as he joined him in Shivaay's massive closet. 'What do you mean?' Omkara answered. 'What about the wedding?' Rudra asked. 'I hadn't gotten that far. I thought when Shivaay didn't turn up at the mandap, the wedding would be called off.' 'No way is that gonna happen. My mother will throw a fit. She has been waiting for this day her whole life.' Rudra answered, his face now in his hands. As if on cue, his phone rang. It was his fiance, Saumya, asking him when Shivaay would be downstairs. 'Omkara why don't you marry Gauri?'
'What?' Omkara spluttered. 'Rudra this isn't a movie where the groom deserts the bride and his brother steps in and they fall in love. This is real life.' 'Think about it, if not for my mother then do it for yours. She loves Gauri like her own. I'll give you some time to think about it but we don't have long,' Rudra stepped out of the room to give Omkara some time to gather his thoughts. Omkara closed his eyes and saw his mother, not the glamourous version he met a few minutes ago; Jhanvi was on her bed, unkempt with matted hair. A drink in one hand and last night's cigarette on the ashtray. Omkara couldn't let her go back to that. He had made his decision.
Rudra waited outside shooting up prayers. He hoped he had made the right decision. He knew Gauri would kill him but he'd deal with her later. I'll do it,' said Omkara, breaking him out of his reverie. Quickly they swapped clothes and Rudra put the sehra over Omkara's head. 'What if someone realises?' Om asked nervously. 'Trust me, it's so busy, no one will notice. Just don't draw too much attention to yourself.' When it was time to leave, Omkara asked Rudra to go ahead as he had to make a call. Rudra waited outside, lest Omkara tried to flee. If this was any other day, Rudra would have found this funny. Omkara dialled a number but his calls went unanswered. He joined Rudra outside and they both locked the closet door hoping it would contain Shivaay at least until after the ceremony.
Once downstairs, Omkara and Rudra were walking towards the mandap when they heard Jhanvi's voice 'Ruko.' (wait) Soon she was next to Omkara, who was sweating profusely under his sehra. 'Shivaay, you didn't wear the brooch I sent for you.' Omkara didn't know what to say. After not getting an answer, Jhanvi said 'I understand' softly and moved towards the mandap.
Omkara was lost in his thoughts when he felt a nudge from Rudra. 'This must be Gauri,' he thought looking at her petite frame descending down the stairs. Rudra helped her up and she took her seat next to Omkara. She gave him a small smile and that's when he noticed her eyes. She had doe shaped eyes and a face that automatically makes you want to smile. How could Shivaay do this to her?
The rest of the marriage was a blur to Omkara while Gauri focussed on every little detail. Of course she knew what everything meant. How could she not? Rudra nudged Omkara again when it was time for the pheras. Gauri focussed on her feet hoping she wouldn't trip when he extended his hand towards her. Cautiously, she took it and instantly felt a tingling in her stomach. Somewhere in the crowd, Rudra smiled, his worries somewhat alleviated. They started the rounds. Gauri couldn't help but notice Shivaay's usually cold hands being warm and somewhat comforting. Her lips instantly formed a smile as they stepped into married life.
Somewhere on another floor, Shivaay woke up with a heavy head. What just happened. Within a few seconds he recalled everything and instantly bolted for the door, only to find it locked from the outside. Shivaay was pacing back and forth when he recalled the spare phone he kept in his closet for emergencies. He quickly retrieved it from the locker and hit speed dial. The phone only rang once before it was answered. 'I knew you would come through,' Shivaay thought.
