Disclaimer: I adore Annika. We've been watching Shivaay fall in love with her so deeply, we can't help but love her like he does. I'm not bashing ANYONE just expressing an opinion about Annika as a character.

She's an orphan who had to fight for everything in her life. She has had to pick herself up from falls alone so much that she has erected shields around her.

Invincibility Shield.

"Nothing can destroy Me. I have got Me. I'll pick myself up." Even if she lost so much, she's determined to show God that He can throw anything at her and she will face it standing.

Stubborn. Undefeatable. Full of spirit. She loves with such conviction and loyalty it just wowed Shivaay. He's come to trust her with his life now. "No matter what anyone says, or what I show, she always gets me. Even what i dont say."

I recall the first episodes where her life looked dire and difficult. She sat by the road and cried over her Fate because Shivaay had called her roadside trash. She felt like the trash he referred her as. That powerful image burned like a brand for me. Such was Surbhi Chandna's portrayal.

In the face of destitution, she gets up for Sahil. Picks up the squashed chocolate bar she's bought for the boy and fights another day for him. Because he depended on her. She wouldn't want her Fate to befall upon Sahil.

Chin up.
One day at a time, as they come.
Make the best of what we get.
Annika's mantras.

We watched her thumb her nose at the snobby man who wanted to ruin her just to prove a point, show his power. We watched him fail and cheered her on. Then we saw him begrudge the beauty of her spirit and slowly fall in love.

How she loved him! She adored him. She may poke fun at him, but for her, he is perfection. Anything that threatened him would have to face her indomitable chappal first. What did he do to win this kind of loyalty from those days?

Because she saw how he loved his family. How he fiercely defends them and is the shield from all threats, be it right or wrong. She identifies with that love and is in awe of it. He became her best example of how to take care of family. She learnt many things by watching him.

Many ppl think Annika is perfect. To me she isn't. It feels so because Shivaay thinks she's wonderfully weird and the love story has been mostly shown in his perspective. She had always stunned him with her loyalty.
When she staked her honour to save him from murder charges. When she rallied to help him when Tia claimed pregnancy with his child. When he was gone, and an impostor had taken his place and endangered his family. When men threatened his identity as a fake, and she shielded him with her self to save him. Because he was Shivaay, and he is high up there for her. Slightly worshipful despite her sass. She puts herself in danger at the drop of a hat for him, it scares him.

It isn't clear for now, but at beginning she had a lot of arguments with Faith, but in Shivaay her belief is rock solid barosa "more than myself" kind. She's ever grateful he gave her a family to love. Not knowing how more to show her devotion, she wanted to touch his feet during Karvachauth, which kind of startled him a bit. Taking the honour & devotion, he kissed those hands instead, giving her respect of an equal.
This showed also earlier when she forced pain unto herself to break his heart and leave him, for him not to break as a person. She couldn't bear for him to lose his identity.

But what she didn't know was he had also fallen deeply in love with her. He too couldn't live without her, being apart had destroyed them both.

I am digressing. This is supposed to be about Annika. You get what I mean about how their story is often meshed together. Shivaay mentioned that a love story is about both the individuals not just one side, each one loves their own way, not one better than the other.

But we saw the immense growth of Shivaay, from a man steeped in prejudice and class ,ridiculing the notion of love. Now he's an Ishqbaaaz for Annika and it was a beautiful journey. I see how he loves Annika, see her through his eyes.

But I do not identify with Annika as a woman. Maybe it's because I was raised to be independent and to always be willing to learn new things. It's one thing to be accepted as you are, it's another to keep improving yourself for your own sake.

Yes,Annika is an orphan and she may have never been in safe and secure environment as she is now, to begin learning to better herself.

If we can feel the slightest annoyance at her insecurities as a newly married woman, then we should be prepared for the time when they have proper disagreements soon.

It came before. If you recall,Annika tried to help him sew a button and (pretended to perhaps) failed. He felt for her, but he propped her up saying "These days there are ways to learn everything if you want to learn" I loved it when he said that, and have been waiting for her to take a step to better herself now that she doesn't have to fight for survival under Shivaay's TLC.

Go for culinary classes (make him a cute chef teacher too why not for Pete's sake?!).
Work in the fashion industry with Rudy (break out Ms Shivani & Ms. Kohli's runway experience and set some REAL TRENDS).
Start a home business with Jhanvi and Gauri (When she comes back ) ANYTHING. Just don't end up like Pinky, hanging around waiting for son and husband to have spare time for her.

Please Harneet. You gave Gauri empowerment by giving her Internet Chachi & English classes. You gave Bhavya her badass-ness. Please give Annika something, make her relatable. Don't just have Shivaay saying sorry for hurting her feelings all the time. You know i love ya and mean well for this show.

(ppl mock me for writing something so long and being petty, pls refrain from negativity. I love all characters of IB , save for Pinky, and see all their characters as part of a whole story. Not comparing Gauri with Annika, or Annika with Bhavya or anything. Each character is different. Thanks for understanding)

UnRes and why I agree with these points that you have made Anisa 😊

But I do not identify with Annika as a woman. Maybe it's because I was raised to be independent and to always be willing to learn new things.
I could not agree more. No one is saying that Annika does not have what it takes to be wife to Shivvay Singh Oberoi or to be a O'Bahu. She has what it takes to be both ASSO and the older Oberoi Bahu and more to spare for a rainy day. She has proven that time and again.

No one is saying Annika needs to change now because she is ASSO and an O'Bahu. Shivvay has accepted her the way she is and loves her for who she is - not inspite of who she is. He does not need the change, he does not expect her to change and neither will he encourage change because he fell in love with her the way she is. She handled the media during the Tanya episode with grace and poise - True ASSO

This post , if I am not mistaken, is about the inner need for self-growth that all of us have inside us whether it is taking up a sport, a hobby, a way of life (yoga etc) or learning a new skill. All of us women do that - no matter we have the financial resources or not because to better ourselves is what we strive for always.

To be alive is movement - stagnation is death. Growing and learning is part of human nature. Need to improve ourselves and curiosity makes us do that.

It's one thing to be accepted as you are, it's another to keep improving yourself for your own sake.
Exactly. Improving yourself is not a mark of being ashamed of who you are. All great and wise people have continually improved themselves and that is when they have attained wisdom. Common people like us emulate them don't we? Why? To improve what we already posses and make it even more perfect.
We do this for our satisfaction and for our well being most times not to make ourselves look better to others.

Yes,Annika is an orphan and she may have never been in safe and secure environment as she is now, to begin learning to better herself.
But now she has that luxury where she no longer has to worry about the nitty-gritty of everyday life. That task has been taken away from her and she has replaced that with no other meaningful and fulfilling task.
She is intelligent, resourceful and a fast learner. With the opportunity that lady fortune has provided her she should be (in reality) looking to keep her mind busy. A girl such as her in all honesty cannot be ok with being a 'Pinky' ... no offense

Of Course we know that this will never happen because IB will never focus so much on a FL ...lol
So Annika-entric tracks can be forgotten - they will never happen.

Everybody has a chapter they dont want to read out aloud.
Yes we understand that she has been through a lot n somewhere my heart goes all out to her.there have been momemts where have had tears coz of the situation.she has been put in and long after the episodes have been over the sadness has lingered on.Kudos to SC for living n giving us this Anika.

It takes a strong man to handle a broken woman.
She was a wild one, always stomping on egg shells that everyone else tip toed on..

She got attracted to shivaay as fly to light.so beautiful coz somewhere your heart leads on to something that you lack but can still survive giving it more alluring meaning.Shivaays heart also did the same.she is adoringly n fierecly protective for her loved ones and hence a quality that shivaay adores the most in her.But somewhwere i still want shivaay to fall in love with her more when her pasts opens up and stand with her more rock solid like she always has.

I dont know exactly whats next, but stepping forward with grit anchored in grace.

its easier said than done to what she has been through.i agree.but somewhere one has to muster the courage and fight those demons that are not leaving you.But for that one needs to open to the person she loves and trust him.to be there when she needs him.the most.
A lot of times i have thought from here where does anika goes.Anika now needs to build her own self with the man who has build himself from scratch.A man who was born with a silver spoon but has taken the legacy forward purely by his own determination ans persevearance. She needs to be the anchor of her journey and now not make the most of situations but be courageous of choosing her own situations.

Thank you Anisa for the post.its an imagination of what we feel for a women.for the world they might be characters but shivaay and anika live within us.

Heres to strong women.
May we know them
May we be them
May we raise them

And also as strong women on this forum let us supoort each other whole heartedly.:)

such an amazing post - anisa! people forget that every character needs a growth and anika does as well. for me the biggest issue is that where is the focus on her and just her as an individual in all this? and the bolded parts above capture it perfectly.

when i started watching the show i thought anika would u know build herself up, learn english to eventually be able to stand on par with shivaay . and no there is nothing wrong in doing so - if shivaay can give up his prejudices, anika can learn the ways and meet him in the middle.

thanks for making the post - i was hoping that this track would address the insecurities she faces as a woman and she would work on it herself and may be she will but for now they bury all her issues with sorrys and promises by shivaay! i hope she works on herself a bit too and thats normal for every human being to do to move ahead in life with or without a partner😉

To each their own I guess. For me, Annika is relatable in this mini track. Her insecurities are real and is a realistic issue faced by many women. I am liking the way her insecurities are being executed because it is so realistic. As for independence, Annika is pretty self-sufficient and independent to me but if she wants to change herself it should be for herself and not for anything or anyone else!
PS: Both Annika and Shivaay are works in progress and are flawed but that makes them lovable...atleast to me!

Hello Anisa:)

Posting on IF after a long time. Will be a little rusty in the way I express my thoughts...so please do bear with me;)

Honestly...I wouldn't hold hopes in this regard. I have long come to accept that GulNeet have very perfunctory ideas when it comes to delineating the professional side of their women characters. The English classes or Bhavya's profession...did you see that last? More than a character trait...it was a plot device to move the story ahead, rather than with the motive of investing the female characters with even a semblance of empowerment. So i don't think they are tangible examples either.

I still remember the Anika of yore who was a working woman...and I don't really think we can discount her individuality or strength because she is a little insecure of late. I think her insecurities are touching and relatable...and i for one am glad that the writers have thought of a plot line from Anika's perspective after a long time.

To cut a long story short...I am resigned to the fact that these writers aren't going to show anything of this sort. Sticking to the tropes of Indian TV i guess. *shrugs*

What i will take is these explorations of emotional turbulences...at least it makes the female characters more. ..human. I for one like how they have dealt with an aspect you seldom see on TV...the fear of old age and how you perceive that your partner might see you differently. And Anika certainly isn't another Pinky. She is feisty and stands up for herself and doesn't let Shivaay have his way often: case in point her "Sudhar jaayiye" to Shivaay😆 While Pinky has always been riddled with self pity and chose underhanded ways to gain power.

So...I will take this. Over another track of Shivaay with some random chick and another media announcement.

And maybe it is me but I have never perceived Anika to be the clinging, weak sort...she has always held her own in her relationship with Shivaay IMO. And he knows that. The scared looks when she was scrutinising his flirting says it all🤣

@bold yes - but still amri, if you are insecure about things in life, you personally have to get up and fix it - promises from your partner only put it in the back burner
but yes, to get a track where they are thinking from anika's perspective is happening after 400 episodes so expecting more from them is just expecting too much i guess 😆

Exactly my point Ruz.. there is nothing bad about improving oneself to a better version of you. Annika is lovable and kind but among the 3 gals I hesitate to say, I find her character needs some boosting. She keeps saying she's bindaas in her ways, but talk is easy, she has to show for it.

Yes she is resourceful. See how she disabled the Don ( for Bhavya to silence I might add ) She is more Shivaay's wife now and saves him from all his troubles.😕

This is exactly why I am loving this mini track! It's tackling an issue that is very real and its something for them to work through together and that adds another dimension to their relationship!

As for working, SP will never allow it!She was supposed to have left after the forced marriage and start working but it was scrapped by SP...so I have given up hopes on that a long time ago! Like you said, even for Bhavya and Gauri, their 'working' is only showed so long as it can be used to show some scenes...

Thank you! I relate to these insecurities too. It's all normal. I never said she shouldn't have them at all. But be prepared also for Shivaay to have issues with her behaviour, and we should be just as understanding😉
