When I first started watching the show last year, I felt most attached to Anika. She was bindaas but honest. And what made Anika relatable to me was her independence and willingness to make a name for herself despite the lack of a last name. So yes I have been disappointed post-marriage since it seems she hasn't fulfilled her own potential there. Personally I had always thought of her as someone who would open up her own little catering business and rake in the money without Shivaay's helpšŸ˜†

Like I mentioned on twitter, I don't think she needs to improve herself in order to be "perfect". (I think that's what tripped up many people with regards to your post), but I can agree with your point that she can take up something in order to better herself...for herself. Anika shouldn't be a stagnant character, but rather one that grows, and the best way to grow is by learning new things. (And face it, this girl deffo needs a hobby. I posted a couple of weeks ago that she doesn't really do much anymore other than hang around OM and save Shivaay's behind all day longšŸ˜†)

If anything, this isn't because of SP's nayi soch that she's like this now. SP does allow its FLs to have hobbies/jobs. But this is more due to Gul's refusal to use more than one set for her shows. Everything that happens in this show is based in OM. We've never seen Shivaay working, Gauri was in English classes for maybe 1-2 episodes max, Bhavya's office was there for only one episode so they could show her getting fired. That's why Gul's shows usually fall apart within a year and she needs to invite new villains into the house every 2 months. Because when you're limited to one set, there's only so much you can do with the storylines and character development.

So in summary, I think Anika is perfect the way she is. However I'm totally game for her to want to improve herself by taking up a hobby or going back to work, as long as she wants to do it for herself.

I agree...along with her catering options she could also associate with an orphanage...she can relate so much with the lives of those children and thus showing her to try and improve the situations of those children could always be shown...it is also in accordance with the tastes of trp audience which probably will not accept a high end corporate woman/highly ambitious woman.
Gauri's english classes lasted for a week max perhaps...shivaay's business is also in name only...but at least these characters are given something...even if in name only.

I see lots of people have issues with the word worshipful that I used.šŸ˜† okay I'll admit it , perhaps I could've used a better word. I like how you described her as "childlike innocence"

Thanks!

Oh I didn't have an issue with your word use. I hope it didn't come off like that I just was describing how I perceived her character. I loved your post and reading all the different perspectives.Like NYCForever said, we all seem to be wanting the same growth for Anika, but the phrasing is different. Change because she wants to, acknowledge her issues, and open about her past in order to heal. Having something to herself that is her own is what we all want to see.

Unfortunately, we have been burnt by the writers for 400 episodes, but maybe we'll get something now. Her insecurities and abandonment issues are linked to her childhood. Whereas Gauri had a kind adoptive mother, but she couldn't study further than 5th standard. Her insecurities are linked to her childhood as well so it will be interesting to see if Aniri get a track to themselves exploring this.
