Hi all! I know this is a touchy topic with Pinky and all her kaand as Ponky. I'm not even going to make a fic about this because it's too much on my plate, but I wouldn't not object to someone adopting the idea. Also, no chappals please.
So, why can't Pinky be the victim in this illegitimacy? Why does she have to be the villain in this situation? Yes, the child she raised as her own is not hers. Is that wrong? No. It's who you are as a mother that count. Look at Kal Ho Naa Ho, where Jaya Bachchan's character raised the little girl, who is the child of the mistress, as her own. She never took out her distain, that her husband cheated on her, on a little girl.
The same could applied with Pinky. She could have been portrayed as a victim in the situation. In contrast to Shakti, whose lack of fatherhood in Shivaay's life, makes sense if Shivaay is illegitimate. Perhaps Shakti has always felt guilty for how he forced Pinky into this situation and make her raise his "heir" so that Shakti could prove he was better than Tej. Faster than his older brother, and win this race in the long run.
What was the worst that could have happened if Pinky didn't become some typically Saas in a daily soap? Would the idea of Pinky being mahan be cliche, that as a bahu she was a great person for raising her mistress's child? Was that bad writing because the idea was overdone or boring?
I don't necessarily hate for Pinky getting a character arc, but is this what a character arc is? Turning a character so dark that no one likes her or wants her in their life, putting her almost past redemption in the eyes of the fandom?
If you did write Pinky as a victim, it could have gone this way: The villain turns out to be Kamini, Pinky ultimately shares a good relationship Annika and when Annika learns of the illegitimacy that relationship grows. Annika becomes a shoulder that Pinky can cry on because this weight was probably something she could share with no one in the family.
Pinky as a victim could have explored the darker shades of Shakti, who is revealed not to be and out and out white character. Sure, Shakti doesn't have to be a villain here, but some of his perspective on the situation would provide for good story. Maybe Shakti feels guilty about what he did to Pinky but did not regret that night spent with Kamini. OR perhaps the story could have spun to progress ShInky, where Shakti could slowly fall for Pinky after everything and redeem himself to start a new relationship with her.
Under the GulNeet's pretence that the Separation Track was necessary, Kamini could have done this too as the villain of the arc. She could have gave Annika three days to leave too, making Annika realize how much Annika loves Shivaay and how she chose to protect Pinky and Shivaay by sacrificing herself. Why would Kamini do it though? Because she wants to break the Oberoi family.
Anyhow, that's just what I feel. I know we are stuck with Ponky and that she's not going to change, but what do you think? Could it have worked? Is this character past redemption?
What would you have wanted from Pinky's character arc?
