Ishaana Purohit (pronounced eesh-aan-a pooh-ro-hith; born 5 November 1992) is an American actress and humanitarian. She is of Gujarati descent but received American citizenship in 2020.
In March 2017, at the age of twenty-four, she moved from Mumbai, India on her own after being offered a supporting role in the film, Before There Was You (2018). She was the main protagonist in the sequels, Then There Was You (2020) and After You (2022). For both films, Purohit was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She won the award in 2023, for her portrayal of a schizophrenic drug addict in The Things We Hide. Purohit received international acclaim for her role in the French romance, Tu Me Manqu where she played an embittered paraplegic dancer and won the BAFTA in 2024. She won her second Academy Award as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama for the biopic, Beyond the Yellow Wallpaper where Purohit played the role of writer Charlotte Perkins-Gilman who famously committed suicide in 1935.
Despite having no prior acting experience, Purohit was spotted at the age of twenty-three in Mumbai by casting director, Wayne Harper. Having seen potential in her, Harper sponsored Purohit in LA where she was made to attend workshops and acting classes. Even in her small debut role, Purohit made a powerful impact on audiences. Per Forbes List of Highest Paid Actresses in 2026, Purohit is ranked seventh in the world, with a reported net worth of USD$ 75 million.
Purohit has also modelled for Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss and Roberto Cavalli amongst others. She is the face of Hourglass Cosmetics and is the brand ambassador of several luxury brands including Rolex.
A large portion of her earnings is distributed to several charities annually. Purohit's own foundation, The Nurture Project raises USD $10 million a year to help underprivileged children globally.
Not much is known about her personal life. However, Purohit was in a rumoured relationship with American rock singer Sahir Bhasin, from 2019 - September 2026. Purohit currently resides in Malibu, LA with her dog, Achilles.

Looking up from the Wikipedia page, Omkara stared at Ishaana now, watching as she bustled about her apartment, clearing the table and gathering the china in the sink. Her long hair was tied loosely in a messy bun, with silky strands falling into her face, she batted the locks out of her eyes with the back of her soapy hand, humming softly as she washed the dishes. She was so ordinary, so human, Omkara thought.
