Chapter 9: Of Mocha and Warm Fudge Brownies
She stared outside through her window, her fingers digging into the cold glass, her forehead resting on it. It was gloomy outside and also quite cold. Nothing has been the same for her since that day, when she was attacked and kidnapped. It left a scar on her heart. Thankfully, Ranveer was with her, pulling her through. She felt a presence beside her and so she turned around, to find the person she adores right beside her. "Can't sleep?" he asked, and extended a hand, cupping her cheek. She nodded her head, eyes downcast. "Still anxious?" he asked, and pulled her close slowly. She rested her head on his chest, and he encircled his arms around her, and his chin resting on her head. "Do you want to drink some coffee? Mocha perhaps? Whipped cream and chocolate sauce on top?" Ranveer asked. It always lifted her mood. Warm chocolate brownie with a side of vanilla ice cream and mocha with whipped cream. She nodded her head and pulled away, a soft smile drawing on her lips. It was around 3 am, and he didn't want to leave, for Ayaan was home. Albeit, Rudra is always around, quite literally, for example, he is staying over at Ranveer and Priyanka's for 2 nights now, Ranveer still thought that they should stay indoor today.
The kitchen was located downstairs while the bedrooms were located on the upper story of the house. So, hopefully it wouldn't wake anyone up.
So, he took her hands in his and went inside the kitchen, drawing out all the items they need to make a brownie. Priyanka suddenly seemed to be smiling again. She had always loved baking, and when it involved Ranveer or Ayaan, she loved it even more.
The duo started to make the batter, Priyanka adding the chocolate chips, while Ranveer was mixing it altogether. He finally put it inside the oven, while Priyanka proceeded to take out ground coffee that Ranveer had prepared the previous morning. Albeit it's not the freshest, but it still does wonders. Priyanka prepared the coffee, while Ranveer took the chocolate sauce out of the fridge, something they always kept at hand for Ayaan loved chocolate milk.
Finally, the coffee and brownie was done and duo sat down to eat near their bedroom window which had a divan right beside it. Priyanka took a small bite of the brownie and her eyes closed in bliss. Ranveer smiled, his heart swelling in happiness, for it had been a while since Priyanka had looked at ease. She looked at him and smiled, taking a small piece of the warm fudgy brownie with a little bit of the vanilla ice cream on her spoon which she proceeded to feed him. He took a bite of it and smiled at her, which she returned with a even bigger smile. "Better?" He asked and she replied "much," nodding her head. She scooted close to him, one of his arms around her and his cheek on her head. She sighed and he knew that she was at ease. "You know if you don't drink the mocha, I would" he said, mischievousness masking his tone. She looked up at him, and playfully narrowed her eyes, a smile grazing her lips.
He took a sip of the mocha and closed his eyes. The bitter coffee and the rich bitter sweet creamy chocolate balanced each other out. It tasted smooth, for it was in perfect harmony with the sweet whipped cream and the rich chocolate sauce. It was flawless. He opened his eyes and found his wife staring at him eagerly, waiting for a response. He smiled at her and said "it's perfect." She smiled at him once again, her eyes filling with happiness. Ranveer was relieved to see her progress. He knew that it would take a while for her haunting memories to fade away, even just a little bit.
The coffee and brownie was done and none of them had bothered to clean the dishes. They actually managed to relax, without having a lace of worry in their minds. She had curled up against him, her arms encircled around him, while he had his arm around her, his protectiveness coming out even in slumber. She had fallen asleep fast this time - for the first time in a long time, while he was half awake, saying a silent prayer to the Creator of the Heavens and beyond, for blessing his life with a family, for keeping his family intact, for giving him a second chance at life, and for giving him true happiness.
