Chapter 10: Aftermath

He checked his phone for the umpteenth time, worried that his wife hadn't called him yet. She was out of town, with her students and fellow teachers on a field trip. Now, he was waiting outside his son's school in his uniform. Ranveer usually doesn't wear uniform when he is going to Ayaan's school,but today he had finished early and thought he should pick him up, instead of Rudra who had taken the liberty to pick and drop Ayaan everyday in Priyanka's absence. He sighed, a little fear brimming up his throat. "Why hasn't she called me yet? Her bus should have been here by now" he thought. "Dad!" He heard his little one's voice and looked up from his phone - he smiled. He kneeled down and opened his arms, picking his son up. "How's my superstar doing?" He asked, kissing his son on the cheek. "dad!" his son whined, turning pink. Ranveer chuckled and got up, taking his son's hand in his, walking towards his jeep.

Ayaan smiled at his son, who seemed engulfed with his PS4. His phone rang - it was his wife. Finally! "Hey love, how is Delhi treating you?" he asked. "Delhi is exhausting!" the lady on the other side uttered. "I am coming home today!" she exclaimed. He chuckled and said "I'll see you soon."

He waited at the bus stop, holding his son's hand. Ayaan had been looking around and suddenly Ranveer's eyes caught a glimpse of his raven haired beauty. "Mommy!" exclaimed the little boy and ran towards his mother, dragging Ranveer with him. Priyanka smiled and hugged her son ad tightly as she could. She missed her two favorite people. Then she pulled away, and got up, turning to her husband. The duo smiled at each other. She noticed how sunken Ranveer's eyes were from the lack of sleep - being a police and taking care of a little boy was hard.

The trio was now home - the little one in deep slumber, while Ranveer was sitting at the veranda, on a divan with Priyanka's head on his chest. "How was your trip?" asked Ranveer as he was stroking her hair, lovingly. "Long day huh?" He finally asked, breaking the silence. "Hmmm" she said and yawned. She was exhausted. Then again, she wanted to talk to him all night long. "Aww, you're tired babydoll. Go to sleep" he said. She sat up and took the mug of chai in her hands. "Nope. I want to talk. All night!" she exclaimed. Ranveer chuckled and said "As you say princess," to which Priyanka could not help but smile. They had sure come a long way - from being completely distant to being in love, Ranveer being revengeful to loving and caring. "What do you want to talk about?" He asked. "The trip!" She exclaimed, her tired eyes suddenly shining bright. His heart fluttered and he couldn't help but smile. She still had that effect on him. Seeing her happy made him happy. She was healing. "OMG! The kids loved Delhi! We went to see the Kutub Minar, and Isa Khan's tomb! You know Arjun? Small child who recently moved from UK? You know, I was worried about him - adjusting in a new city is difficult, add parents' divorce to that - it becomes 10 times harder. I was so glad to see him happy! He was truly enjoying the trip! We also went to try the local cuisine and it seemed as if Arjun truly loved the food!" She said, her face brightening. Ranveer smiled. This was one of the qualities that attracted him - kindness. "Well, your students are honestly lucky to have a teacher like you" he said and kissed her forehead. "They are my babies Ranveer. I honestly love each and every single one of them" she said and smiled.

"Almost forgot!" she suddenly exclaimed. Ranveer raised his eyebrows. She quickly got up and ran towards their bedroom. Then Ranveer saw her coming out with a box in her hand. "I got this for you!" She exclaimed and extended her arms, pushing the box in Ranveer's hands. "What is it?" Ranveer asked. "Open it!" Priyanka exclaimed. Ranveer chuckled and took off the wrapper. It was a beautiful wooden box with both of their names engraved. "It's a memory box!" She exclaimed. Ranveer opened it and found pictures - from their first date to Ayaan's birthday last year. He smiled at her and rose to his feet. "This is beautiful" he said, keeping he box on the table. He took her hands and kissed her knuckles. "You're gorgeous, you know that?" He suggested, pulling her close.
