Finally caught up with your story. Just the first line of the first part had told me this was going to be a spectacular journey and it is. Love the way you write. Your sensibility, sensitivity and creativity shine through your writing. This is such a beautiful reworking of the horrendous disaster that was the forced marriage. I read in some other comment here I think that they wished Shivay to bleed. And yes, I heartily echo the sentiment. Make him bleed, the arrogant entitled dickhead.
Love your Anika. That is the woman I had imagined her to be. The scene where she takes off the mangalsutra...yesss! I whooped at that.

I can't wait to read how you shall shape her journey.

This is such a beautifully put-together story⭐️. Wonderfully penned👏.

Anika's pain is heart-breaking but I love her fighting spirit❤️
That small moment with Om was so touching❤️.
It was good to read Shivaay's frustration. Is he goin to regret terribly or what?! I'm eagerly waiting for that bit
Looking forward to the next part😃

2.3 Revelations

Dressed in a simple white kurta and jeans, Annika looked absolutely stunning.

And like every single time, Shivaay was a little thrown off by how much that affected him.

However, it was the small hand that she was holding that had literally shaken up the ground that Shivaay was standing on.

Sahil.

Sahil with crutches.

Images crashed in him, and he was enveloped in an increasingly familiar emotion.

Guilt.

Shivaay was standing at the door to her home for the first time.

"Why? Are you handicapped?"

"Tum mujse apni marzi se shaadi carogee...varna"

Boom

Even as he saw them slowly move inside and towards him, their movement didn't really register deep down.

Suddenly a lot of things about the way Annika behaved started making sense.

Her throwing that stupid glass of water into his face after he had called him handicapped.

Annika's constant worrying about her brother.

But why didn't she just tell him?

Even as the shock started wearing off, a new frustration started growing within him. That was the bloody point wasn't it?

She never told him anything.

All those months when she happily and annoyingly talked about her brother... how difficult was it to share that she was so worried about him because he was handicapped? He could probably have helped. Got him the best bloody medical help in the country.

But she had never let him in. Had she?

Like everything about her, all her affection towards him was obviously as superficial as the fact that she was just a self-made poor innocent girl.

Self-made like hell. He knew exactly what she did to ensure that livelihood.

And as the frustration turned familiarly bitter, his mask automatically slipped on.

It didn't matter. Like everything about her, this too changed little.

"What the hell is she doing here?" Tia's frustrated screech brought him back.

He ignored Tia as he continued to stare at the woman who was single handedly responsible for turning his perfect life into an absolute hurricane since the day he had met her.

But even as he stared at her as she quietly helped Sahil sit on the corner of the couch, he couldn't miss the change in her. It was in the subtle way that she was carrying herself... there was a cautious edge to the way her hands moved or the way her shoulders were moving.

Almost defensive.

Immediately he found himself straightening. Danger.

Had there been another attack on her?

Why didn't she just bloody call him?

Why didn't he check on her?

Was she hurt? How careless could he have been?

His heart almost stopped at that thought. The room disappeared. She was suddenly the only thing that mattered.

Was she hurt? What had they done?

He didn't even wait for his thought to finish before walking right up to her. Holding her arm to turn her around he frantically checked her for any signs of visible damage.

Pinky looked so shocked that sh almost slipped. However, Om, Rudra and Daadi just exchanged extremely familiar expressions.

Annika's eyes widened as she was hauled up against his body.

The familiar emotions engulfed her - and she stared at his face as he continued to frantically look her up and done.

What was wrong with this man?

But before she or anyone could react there was a sudden crunching sound as Sahil had stood up and fiercely brought the end of his crunch into contact with Shivaay's shin.

Twice.

A shocked yelp and Shivaay would have lost his balance hadn't it been for Annika's hand that had immediately gone up to wrap around his shoulder to support his weight.

Shocked at both herself and Sahil she looked at her brother.

"No Sahil!"

But Sahil ignored her and actually looked beyond furious as he looked straight at the man who she was now supporting slightly.

"Leave my sister" he threatened coldly.

Too shocked to react, Shivaay felt his grip loosen on her arm.

However before things could get any worse, Pinky had interrupted.

"Yeh ho kya raha hai ha?"

"Annika, is this how you have taught your brother to behave?"

Annika shook her head but before she could say anything, Sahil had looked straight at the older woman and replied in only a slightly gentler tone.

"Aunty I don't know about you Oberoi's and your values, but when someone dares to misbehave with my sister, this is exactly how I react."

Sahil's straight answer caught everyone by surprise.

This really was Annika's younger more bolder version it seemed.

But Shivaay had had enough. His patience now thinning and his previous concern tamed now that he knew she was physically unharmed, he could feel all the frustration and bitterness creeping right back in.

Wincing a little at the sharp pain that had shot up his leg, he looked at the brother-sister duo impatiently.

Crossing her arms at his stare, Annika stared right back.

His eyebrow quirked slightly at that.

Why does everything have to be a struggle with her?

Rolling her eyes Annika looked him in the eye when she spoke, "you will have to speak the words for me to understand what's on your mind you know."

Before he could answer though he heard Sahil excitedly whisper next to her. "Annika di you were right. He really is slow."

Shivaay felt his eyes narrow at that.

Guilt or no guilt he wasn't used to being spoken like that.

And it didn't really help his patience when he could practically feel Om and Rudra sniggering behind him.

Exasperated, he decided to give in.

Because knowing her she would drive him completely insane and he wasn't in the mood for an all out shouting match right now.

"You didn't answer my call so what are you doing here?"

But before she could reply, a smiling daadi had walked up to her.

Again, surprised, his eyes slightly widened at the fact that daadi hugged her as normally as if the last 48 hours had never happened.

Clearly annoyed he questioned the fairness of the situation.

So only he was receiving the stupid cold shoulder behaviour?

And his annoyance only grew more when daadi completely ignored him (again) and addressed everyone, "I have called Annika".

Rolling his eyes for the umpteenth time that afternoon he was speechless when daadi then forcefully took Annika and seated her next to herself.

So this was how it was going to be now?

Huffing and looking every bit as irritated as he felt, he went and stood at the other corner of the room.

Though everyone was visibly tensed, there seemed to be a slightly familiar approach in the way each person now reacted to Annika's presence. Of course everyone except his mother and Tia that is.

Even bade papa seemed to be genuinely comfortable around her he noted with surprise.

Om and Rudra had immediately gone to welcome her and for the first time that morning he saw her smiling.

But even then, he couldn't help but notice that the smile did not quite reach her eyes. The usual twinkle in her eyes was missing.

And he didn't know why this bothered him that much.

"I have come to return the papers daadi" Annika's tentative voice brought him back from his thoughts.

Another surprise.

"Annika..." daadi began but she stopped when Anika took her hand in hers,

"Daadi I cannot thank you enough for everything that you have done for me and Sahil. But please, please understand that I cannot accept this anymore."

It was the slight crack in her voice at the end that broke through Shivaay's frustrated mask.

Daadi looked like she had tears in her eyes but she nodded slightly.

This was revelation for him. From as far as he could remember, his daadi was the most stubborn person he knew. So how did she always get through his daadi so easily?

Visibly relieved Annika gave her a small smile and continued.

"And anyway I really don't need it anymore. I have gotten a job which allows me to take the same 15 lakh loan as an advance on my first quarter's salary, without needing a guarantor."

Another surprise. What loan?

But before he could react, Annika removed an extremely familiar looking envelope from her bag and handed it to daadi.

Everything inside him froze.

He stared at the envelope in complete disbelief.

No. No. No.

He felt himself move a step back as if burned.

"Annika... we really don't mind beta. You don't have to..." he heard his dad say and it was another blow.

What the hell was happening?

Unable to control her tears, Annika looked at him as she answered... "You helping us like that means more to me than I can ever tell you uncle. But I really can't take this. Not anymore."

This was the last straw.

The way her voice shivered and broke at the end clamoured through the final barrier that he built around himself.

He found himself walking right up to the place where she sat and bending down on one knee right in front of her to level with her.

His vision burned.

Eyes still frozen on the envelope, a hoarse croak broke the silence in the room as everyone stared first confused then completely stunned at the unravelling scene.

"When did you receive this envelope?"

Clearly shocked too, Annika actually contemplated not answering him at all.

But something in the way he was staring at that envelope made her cave in.

"Two days after the sangeet, why?"

Clutching the table where the envelope now sat, he could feel every single heartbeat loud in his ears.

"Who handed you this envelope?"

His own voice sounded alien to his ears.

Now completely confused, Annika just sat gaping at him.

When would anything that this man did start making sense to her?

"What does th-"

Everyone started shifting uncomfortably in their places.

Shivaay couldn't care less in that moment. "Just answer the god damn question."

Annika didn't know what made her heart start racing that moment... maybe it was the way in which he looked like his life depended on the answer or the way in which his face was frozen but she involuntarily found herself whispering.

"Daksh had come to give me the papers that morning"

That was the final strike because Shivaay's face lost every single colour as he stood up and started moving back from there.

"Oh yes even I remember this bade bhaiya. It was the morning after I and Annika di had slept in Daksh's room because I had a strange fear that there was someone in my room."

Saumya's words rang in his ears as he continued to slowly walk backwards - his eyes never leaving the envelope.

Omkara and Rudra both started moving towards their brother.

Something was wrong. Or there was something that had gone seriously wrong. And it was somehow related to this brown envelope.

Annika too started getting up.

What was happening? Why had he reacted to this loan like that? He didn't really think that she would runaway with this money now did he?

"I was not going to runaway with the money if that's what you were worried about." She told him blankly.

But that put him over the edge and he stopped his movement to look into her eyes long enough.

And as he continued to stare into the most beautiful honey coloured eyes that he had ever seen, he felt his own ears bleed as his own words and images drowned out everything else.

Before anyone could actually piece together the scene, he turned around and had disappeared up the stairs.

And even as Omkara and Rudra rushed after him, they could hear the bedroom door thunder close.

Loved how you depicted his reactions to that envelope. A good amount of what he had done was due to that ONS MU and you did a brilliant job highlighting how twisted his thinking had become while portraying Anika as totally oblivious to the happenings of his mind. Great update!...this is one of my favorite FF's on this track
