Yes. Shalya and Shalva are different as per my understanding. It was typing mistake because answers were coming so fast 😆 and my internet was slow so made that mistake in hurry. I meant Shaalv only. I also edited the post immediately but you posted the question before seeing it.😃. BTW, in SK serial, Shaalv is mistaken perhaps as Shalya only. And MB serial used the name for the guy fighting with Bhishma during Amba's abduction as Shaalvraj. So Shaalva I think is the name of kingdom rather than name of king. So Shaalv invading Dwarika later after Rajsuya Yagn might be different Shaalv than the one who fought with Bhishma (his linear descendent). Shalya I know to be Madri's brother and Karna's charioteer. He also took part in Draupadi's swayamvar.

No, that battle wasn't w/ Ravan - although the AS Ramayan wrongly describes Ravan as being the one who fought Dasharath. Dasharath fought Shambara & was wounded in that battle, and Kaikeyi, who was his charioteer, evacuated him from the field, and hence her boons. (In the serial, they showed Sumantra as the charioteer in this battle, which was incorrect)

Understood. Just 1 point - I don't see how Shalya could have been @ Draupadi's swayamvar, since his sister was married to Pandu. He'd have been the same age range as Drupad.

Yes. Good question. But he was there at Swayamvar as per the texts - his name and Madra king status both are clearly mentioned. He not only attended but also attempted to lift the bow. He fell down on his knees while attempting to lift it. And he also fought with Bheem in disguise of Brahmin. I would say the age difference didn't matter (Uttaraa was also offered for marriage by her father first to Arjun and Arjun-Abhimanyu the father-son had the age difference probably around 70-75 years). Condition was just the ability and power to protect and alliance between two powerful kingdoms through marriages and also the continuation of dynasties. Even Jarasandh attended the competition and I guess he must be even elder than Shalya the king of Madra. The competition was there for all kings and princes. Even Shakuni also attended.😆
