From being a path breaking show on Indian television in season 1 to creating mini youth icons in season 3. Indian Idol is now back for its fourth season. The show goes on air from September 19. For season 4, auditions were conducted in 18 cities in India and abroad (Dubai and UK). Limited to scanning talent in the first two seasons, third season onwards Indian Idol became a platform to find an overall performer. The fourth season intends to give the youth of today their 'own icon'; an individual who in addition to being a talented singer is also someone the youth can relate to — be it attitude, style, the desire to win and fight for bigger stardom. Thus Indian Idol 4 is also an exercise in brand repositioning as it will also address the aspirations of 'Young India'. To go with the show's repositioning, Sony has brought in last season's two popular contestants Deepali and Chang to host the auditions. Hussain Kuwajerwala will host the show from theatre round onwards. Season 4 also introduces two new jury members — the stunning Sonali Bendre and well known Sufi singer Kailash Kher. The duo joins music director Anu Malek and lyricist-poet Javed Akhtar to complete the jury panel. Anu Malek is gung-ho about Indian Idol 4. "Unlike other shows we pick up raw talent and fine tune it on the show. The fourth season is going to rock with amazing talent that we have scanned from the length and breadth of the country," he claims. Adds Javed Akhtar, "Of all the talent hunts, Indian Idol not only has the best talent but also the best jury." www.deccan.com |
