India still enjoys Hindustani music, Bollywood style pop and Indianised music. Even if a song sounds western, there are Indian elements in the singing.

Just like Spain, Turkey, Romania have their own styles of music and while they will enjoy Indian music, it won't be a huge part of their industry.

SMP does not fit in at all. True she might have a niche, but now her performances have become more of "jugalbandi" with musicians and co-singers. The last time I checked this was a reality show, not a concert. Gimmicks are fine once or twice, but the rest of the times we as an audience want to hear the songs without it being stretched.

Not only that, but SMP's style of singing doesn't even fit most Bollywood songs. She cannot yodel and hit falsetto notes every time. Most of the times she has sung songs that weren't even in the theme of the episode, or she hasn't sung at all. But the worst part is, she is damaging her vocal cords because of all the high notes she tries to hit.

Indian music has evolved over the years. In 40-60s it was a bechari, Sati Savitri type songs, which extended into pop during Zeenat - Parveen times in 70s. 80s-90s came back to soft romantic songs, easy on ears and easy to sing. Since 2000s since the advent of Sunidhi, we have had high pitch, soothing romantic, westernized and other types of songs, which have been successful.

I will disagree on yodel and falsetto notes, SMP just uses them to flavour the song, mostly at start and end. Otherwise she has sung the most of the first verse and the later verses as per original song.

Only once during Jaya Prada's episode, she digressed from the theme and other times when she is not given a chance, its not really her fault

Jugalbandi - well I can only say, that those suffering from a complex, will look at her performance as direct challenge to their own (musicians, or co singers)

The vocal chords will get damaged, might be a concern, and I can't really comment on it as I am not very conversant with the nuances of effect her type of singing has.

And lastly, it does not explain, the worst kind of trolling happening on the social media, about her, by all kinds of Tom Dick and Harrys, who have achieved nothing in life, but just endeavoured to bring down a talented and precocious contestant.

Although Indian music has evolved there is a constant type of melody that is still intact. Listening to HR's Indian tunes are basically an evolved version of the 90s. And this might come as a surprise but 1950s to 90s are still much more popular listenership wise. The cities are not the only demographic those songs pertain to.

Even Illayaraja's old songs were ahead of its time, but they did have a strong melody that was reminiscent to the OG Carnatic style of music. It might not be everyone's cup of tea in the North, but Ajay-Atul have got that style to Bollywood with their own touch.

The most popular yodeller of the country is Kishore Kumar. He might have yodelled in Main Hu Jhumroo and Chala Jaata Hu, but the same man sang Mera Jeevan Kora Kaagaz, Mere Saamne Wali Khidhki Mein and Roop Tera Mastana. He had a special talent but it was reserved for special times, his songs were not dependent on his gimmicks.

I doubt anyone suffers from a complex when it comes to SMP's style of singing. The rest of the contestants are exceptionally talented and can actually work on Westernised singing too if they want. The biggest example is Ankush Bhardwaj from season 10, I cannot believe he is the same guy in IMPL coz he manages to sing everything and gets really fierce too when needed. And why would musicians get complexed? They go on set, do their job and get paid. They are masters in their field, they don't have to even prove anything. These performances are well rehearsed in advanced, so the performers on stage are well aware what they are supposed to play.

Vocal cords are muscles that vibrate faster the higher you go. For singers like Arunita and Sayli its not a problem because its their natural range. But for singers like SMP, she isn't singing in chest voice...thus the higher she goes the more careful she should be. And after hearing her voice in older shows till now, I can already see she's lost out on her voice.

The trolling has happened for very specific reasons. No one had a problem with her in the beginning, they all appreciated something new. But the way the channel promoted her like she was the greatest singer to have ever lived, going to the gimmick when Vishal touched her feet. She had visible limitations (like her digressing from the theme to not being given a chance in certain episodes), but the judges/host went to the extent to troll the audience instead of making her work on what majority of the audience prefers listening to. And even if they wanted her to stick to her genre, this was no way to troll the viewers who have been watching since day 1.

I might get trolled for saying this but Pawandeep isn't as great a singer as people make him out to be. He's a much better musician but his fan base is toxic af.

y trolled ?? U have ur opinion n it's ok to not like someone if you don't think he isn't that great as people make him , fine no objections 👍🏼

But I don't think his fandom is toxic , though there are always exceptions but they are negligible as compared to the masses, most fans are like me only they don't care about anyone else they just hype n love PD 😆 but it's the rule of the nature that the extremists are only highlighted😃 so best of luck to you

Because I received hate PMs and there were cusses hurled on me on this very forum so I hope u understand my hesitation.

I don't mind anyone hyping their faves, but the fan wars I see online are borderline scary.

So its not the extremists, but my own experience. There might be a few members here who remember reporting stuff with me.

ya I have heard there was one PD fan who was kinda toxic (that person has created the AT for him though but we are trying our best to keep negativity at its bay)

One of the reasons for me being in this forum is that only , when I came across all this negativity I decided to make his AT active again so that this impression of toxicity can be wiped out n believe me I have seen 1000s of comments on YouTube of his fans rarely they degrade anyone n if a fan war begins they only try to calm down people , Instagram again I don't find much negativity but since m not on insta n just stalking fanpages I may not have a clear idea , then if you consider TT then point 1.TT is a toxic place itself n the fans I have seen there aren't that bad to be termed toxic , they do lash out at makers n it's right to do so I think, makers suck

But I have always seen fans of other contestants commenting on his videos , his # n spread negativity n degrade PD but didn't find much cases with Pawan's fandom , they might criticise someone (which everyone does) but never they will by themselves spread hate .

Everyone has their own experiences n you might had a bad one n maybe I had a good one 😊

I love how you make so many assumptions and make generalisations based on those assumptions and state them as truth, as though you know what is going on in everyone's mind.

And I love you assuming I don't know how to Google and figure out most other things. I read the Copyright Bill and most my research comes from there. The rest is all about music, which one understands from listening, no "generalisation".

Exactly. Justifying personal trolling of a contestant by many others, not for anything that the contestant said or did, but for what showmakers, judges etc did.. no assumptions and no generalisation at all.

Narrowing the types of music being quoted, completely ignoring the new music styles of music directors like ARR, Amit Trivedi - superb googling skills..

Confirming only a particular voice type can sing Indian songs and not other voice types, especially for women.. all women who have husky voices should just stop singing...

I'm out of this conversation now.
