T HEY CAME, we saw, and they may soon conquer the viewer's hearts too -- providing a welcome respite from the Tulsis, Parvatis, Romolas and Camillas of the television world. Four new girls and four new shows recently went on air and they all stand to gain, if their shows do well, their tales and tribulations manage to hold the couch potatoes night after night and if they manage that much needed 'TRP' pull. We speak to Kanchi Kaul (Ek Ladki Anjaani Si), Manasi Parekh (India Calling), Ami Trivedi (Kituu Sabb Jaantii Hai) and Chandana Sharma (Yeh Dil Chahe More) about the characters they play, their USP, their take on prime time competition and finally given a chance who would they like to play Tulsi or Jassi? Read on to find out what our four spunky TV betis have to say: Kanchi Kaul She is: Anu Sachdev of Ek Ladki Anjaani Si Plain Jane or Spunky Senorita: "She is a spunky and free spirited girl with an unpredictable life story." USP: "The show is fastpaced, has loads of drama and is very entertaining. I think the way my character deals with her uncanny situations is what will define the serial's USP." Like Anu? "Yeah, when she yaps and talks, she's just like me. The only thing uncommon between us is that I haven't gone through any artificial insemination." My take on the Tulsis and the Parvatis: "I don't know about others, because my competition is with myself." Tulsi or Jassi: Jassi because she is young, fun loving and a cool chick. Manasi Parekh She is: Chandni of India Calling Plain Jane or Spunky Senorita: "Well, Chandni may come across as a simple and plain girl but she's very spunky. She's definitely not a Sati Savitri and takes up for what she believes is right." USP: "That Chandni will always remain Chandni. She will dress the way she is -in salwars and her parandis and won't become fashionable or go through any makeovers." Like Chandni? "I am very similar to her but what's different is I don't wear patriotism on my sleeve like her." My take on the T ulsis and the Parvatis? "I think these new shows can bring about an evolution in TV programming. Five years ago, Ekta Kapoor brought about a genre change with saas bahu serials, which became successful. Similarly, the current lot of shows can probably bring about a positive change in terms of look and content." Tulsi or Jassi: "A mixture of both. A little bit of Tulsi by my side, a little bit of Jassi in my life." Ami Trivedi She is: Kituu of Kituu Sabb Jaantii Hai Plain Jane or Spunky Senorita: "She is definitely not a plain Jane. She is a middle class girl, who I'm sure lives in every family." USP: "The fact that she is easy to relate with, is grounded in reality, and has aspirations like any other girl of her age." Like Kituu? "Yes, very much." My take on the T ulsis and the Parvatis: "I guess my show has the potential to take on the competition because it's quite dif ferent in content. Moreover, change is always welcome." T ulsi or Jassi: "Jassi definitely, because as a character she's more interesting, simple and real." Chandana Sharma She is: Tara of Yeh Dil Chahe More Plain Jane or Spunk y Senorita: "Definitely spunky with loads of attitude." USP: "I think her attitude is what's important. She gets into many different situations, sometimes sticky, funny and weird, but she also knows how to get out of everything. She doesn't panic." My take on the T ulsis and the Parvatis: "Be it a Tulsi or a Parvati, every character on TV has enjoyed a certain reach and I don't claim to supersede them. What I know for sure is I will ensure that I make Tara a memorable character and give her a place in the history of lovable TV characters." Tulsi or Jassi: "It's a difficult question but I guess Jassi is more my age so I will go for her."
