Reports around the reported separation of Thalapathy Vijay and Sangeetha Sornalingam continue to gain attention, nearly 27 years after their marriage. The couple tied the knot on August 25, 1999, and have largely kept their personal life away from controversy until now.
According to circulating reports, Sangeetha has moved court seeking divorce, citing adultery and mental distress. While there has been no official statement from either side, sources claim that financial arrangements are part of the ongoing proceedings.
Speculation suggests that she may have sought a substantial settlement. There are also claims that ownership of their Neelankarai residence could be under discussion. In addition, reports indicate that she has asked for legal expenses to be covered and has sought permanent alimony. These details, however, remain unverified at this stage.
Sangeetha, a Sri Lankan Tamil and daughter of a businessman, married Vijay in both Hindu and Christian ceremonies. Over the years, they were seen together at public events and film functions. The couple are parents to two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha. In recent years, Sangeetha maintained a low profile, making only occasional appearances.
Reports further allege that she discovered an extramarital relationship in April 2021. It is claimed that Vijay assured her he would end the association. However, sources state that the relationship allegedly continued, leading to emotional strain. There are also allegations of restrictions on her personal freedom and financial security, though these remain claims without court confirmation.
At present, Vijay is reportedly facing accusations of desertion, adultery and mental cruelty. What this really means is that the matter is now in the legal domain, where facts will be examined formally. Until any official clarification emerges, all claims should be treated as allegations.
Meanwhile, Vijay’s film Jana Nayakan has also been caught in controversy. Its release was delayed due to the absence of CBFC clearance. The producers approached the court seeking relief but later chose to withdraw their plea after no immediate order was granted.
In an earlier interaction, Vijay had said he was aware that his films could face hurdles because of his growing political presence. The timing of the film’s issues, alongside his personal legal battle, has kept him in continuous headlines. For now, while the film awaits regulatory clarity, the divorce petition will move ahead in court, where a final decision will rest with the judiciary.
