Manasi Parekh's not just an actor, she's a singer too!

The actor is a part of hubby Parthiv Gohil's fusion band

ROSHNI OLIVERA

Manasi Parekh's India Calling
on Star One has just ended, but she continues to be busy. Not just with her acting assignments, but also with her singing. Manasi's part of her husband Parthiv Gohil's fusion band Akruti. "We were in New York just 10 days ago. We performed at the Times Square," says an excited Manasi, who usually sings thumri and folkbased songs.
Manasi married Parthiv six months ago and "married life's been great," she says. So did she join the band after she fell in love with Parthiv? Manasi prefers to slip the question. "I do not want to talk about that. It's very personal," she smiles.
On the acting front she's gearing up for her next show Lucky on Star Plus. She also wants to study further. "I want to pursue media studies. Maybe next years, hopefully. Let's see if I can manage both work and studies."
Is she also hoping to carve
out
an alternative career for herself for the future considering the shelf-life of a TV actor is not very much? "To some extent yes. But talking about shelf-life of a Tv actor, no doubt it is not
very
long, But finally it depends from person to person. If an actor is willing to reinvent himself and adapt to the changing times he can go on for long. Looks like Manasi has found her calling.

Five one-ders of television

They came, they saw, they conquered. But no sooner than their shows went off air, the actresses disappeared into thin air too. We talk to a few one-show wonders to find out what they are up to

Back to Section Stories

Mansi Parekh
Mansi played the protagonist in a show based on the machination of a call centre. But now one can only see her doing cameos. "After doing India Calling, I did not get any exciting offer. So, I am just doing small roles in various serials. I am exploring other avenues like hosting live shows. I really enjoyed doing the serial. Now that it has wrapped up, I am definitely going to come back with an author backed role one day," she says.

Shama Sikander
This actor made it big on television with Ye Meri Life Hai. Then, she co-hosted a reality show Jet Set Go. The actress has disappeared ever since the show went off air. When contacted, Shama said, "By the grace of God, I will definitely make a grand comeback. It is not that I'm not getting offers, but now I want to be selective in taking on assignments." At present, Shama is enjoying her break.

Neha Bamb
She played Kripa in Balaji's Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai. But now, the actress wants to return only if she gets an exciting offer. "After shooting non-stop for a daily soap, I desperately needed a break. At present, I have been getting offers, but those are far from being interesting. I don't want to portray an elderly character after playing a 20-year-old girl. And who doesn't want to be in the limelight? Unfortunately, I have been in news for all the wrong reasons," she says.

Chavi Mittal
The actress was launched in Tumhari Disha. The show did well initially but wound up all of a sudden. Chavi then took over as the lead in the second season of Twinkle Beauty Parlour, which too went off air very soon. Now Chavi is nowhere to be seen. But Chavi doesn't miss the action too much. She says, "This break is a welcome change. I am doing so many things which I otherwise couldn't. I have completed shooting a film, Kaise Kahein. I shall be back as soon as I get a good offer."

Shweta Gulati
Tia of Remix, enjoyed the show since it was youthcentric, unlike saas-bahu sagas. But, now she wants to try her hand at family dramas. "After Remix, I was completely exhausted and desperately needed a break. So, I spent three months watching movies, cooking and lazing around. I feel happy that people still recognise me on the streets. Frankly speaking, I haven't got any exciting offer so far," she says.
