narmada's silence

friends, what do you make of narmada's silence on various issues? even those who speak up like imlie and aryan are asked to keep quiet either to appease aunty blue or society? so what is behind her silence?

-- is she a prisoner of giving others respect that even when people like aunty blue insult her daughter, she is unable to put them in place?

-- or is she someone so soft-hearted that she doesn't know how to fight for herself or her children?

-- or is she someone who had a cushy life, never had to fight for anything and so does not know how?

-- or does she silently agree with assessment of society on some level about the place of daughters, widows and women?

-- or is she just pragmatic and practical and figures that this is how society operates -- so pay the dowry and ensure your daughter is married?

-- - or is she just a worried mom who knows that arpita has realistically less chances of getting re-married and therefore, have to be satisfied what she gets?

-- or is she someone who has no problem with dowry because she doesn't see it as social evil but just as a social custom?

-- or is she just hopeful that these are just small hurdles to cross and one must do what has to?

-- or is she just thinking as a mom and being irrational?

-- is her silence a sign of weakness or strength?

Narmada was never shown to be a bold woman , but she was strong one.

She held it together , when both her kids lost their battle to grief.

But she was never shown to be someone who speaks her mind , braves the society.

So when both her kids are moving on with their respective partners , lets just say she is moving sun and moon to get it done.

Last 4/5 points of yours fit her ckt perfectly. As a character , she is weak and UNREALISTIC.

Makers gave rathores to contrast tripathis , but no one is this weak , so much so , when her own children are getting hurt by Blue hai hum, she stops them " just out of respect" . That is plain stupid and irrational.

yea I really don't understand this concept of respect where you let someone walk all over you and insult your family members. in my mind, respect is a two way street. so even if they are your elder but is disrespecting your family, I certainly do not keep my mouth shut. I won't be rude or use bad language but I certainly give it back.

so yea, I don't understand this whole 'respect' as an excuse -- at the end of the day, our self-respect, honour is just as important. if we don't respect ourselves, who will? 🤷

For Narmada, I feel, she had a very strong and dominant husband and we see those traits in Aryan too. Self Confident to make any decision and doesnt give two hoots to what society thinks or does.

She has been in a place where others have always made decisions and she was a follower. They don't know how to fight for themselves because loudness and bitter words easily gets to them and they strive their best to avoid that situation. Silence is one form of it. The other form is to just get things done for the moment without a lot of long term side effects of the actions. Because she isnt thinking strategic or anything else. Its how to get out of this situation and keep kids happy and safe. She doesnt think about respect or anything else when it comes to kids.

I am speaking because my own MIL is like that..Never allowed to speak her mind or voice. Choices were always made by my FIL. Thankfully her son, my husband is nothing of that sort, anything for equals. I had to work with her to make her vocal, able to express what she likes either food, clothing or choices. She will not take a stand, may be doesnt want to be held responsible if things go back or thinks she may make bad choices. Its confidence I feel end of the day on self and able to stick with the decision

makes sense; guess it is one of those where some develop strength as they have learned by trial and fire. meaning if you as a woman are put in a position to fend for yourself, then it comes naturally to you. so meethi despite being from the village is a lot more bold. however, if you have been too sheltered where you go from father to brother to husband to son, then the idea of fighting back or making decisions is bit foreign. so someone like narmada doesn't know or think long term. instead, you think that by keeping silent, you keep the harmony. however, you don't realize the impact on others including those within your family.

I think the main reason is Arpita loves sundar and she saw her daughter about to commit suicide.. so she is majboor I think.. even Aryan too, can't say anything against Nanda coz Arpita loves sundar, if it is just any other rishta Rathores may have just shown them the door..

Naramada and her husband were partners or so Aryan had said so out of respect for her dead husband's she turns a blind eyes to BK crap,which is wrong in so many way.Good thing about it is BK never lived with the Rathore's before ,and she needs to be put in her place and send back to God alone from whatever hole she came out of.Naramada was never strong her husband was her pillar and then her son took his place .She is afraid for Arpita because as a widow her self she just have lived through many things she could not stand up to do for her daughter happiness she was trying to pave a way,but dowry is just like blackmail they will always want more.

there is turning a blind eye -- but how does one not get annoyed or angry or hurt when someone is bad mouthing your kid and family? 🤷

yes, in this case, nanda will always want more, sundar will not be able to put a stop and arpita is more likely to get hurt. so definitely not a safe situation

I kept thinking that maybe bm knows some secret about narmada that makes her keep shut. I honestly had this whole theory in my head that maybe aryan is adopted and she doesn't want aryan to find out and that is why she listens to all the crap 😆
