Part 12: Shuruat

Imlie was walking down the road with Chandu, heading towards where her Dadda was. She had been urgently called by Satyakam and playing with her dupatta, she wondered what it might be about. She had the habit of playing with her dupatta whenever she was nervous or anticipating something.

Just as they were taking a turn to the right which led them in the direction of the godown, the blazing sirens of police vans startled and alarmed them.

"Chadu, you leave from here and immediately inform Dadda's men to go into hiding. None should be caught. I'll deviate them and inform Dadda as well." Imlie said.

"But Imlie...."

"No ifs and buts. Go right now!"

Chandu nodded and ran from there while Imlie casually continued walking. She could hear the police vans nearing her and her grip on her dupatta tightened. She took a deep breath to calm herself.

"Ay girl! Can you give us directions to this godown? One theif escaped our clutches and is now hiding in this village." a gruff voice said.

"Oh is it? But I haven't seen any stranger here. It might be that you are mistaken."

"Leave that to us to decide. Now will you give the directions or not?" the other officer asked impatiently.

"There, take a left and then go straight. You'll reach the godown." she said sighing. The men nodded and left from there. Patting her back at successfully tricking them, she rushed towards the godown.

Just as she stepped inside, she saw her Dadda and him! Her eyesbrows furrowed in confusion.

"Dadda? Why have you kidnapped Babusaheb?" she asked.

Satyakam moved towards her and took her to the side.

"Listen child, I suspect him to be a police spy. Here read this ID and tell me what's written." Satyakam whispered showing her the ID card.

It read Aditya Kumar Tripathi, chief executive reporter at Bhaskar times.

"So he's a journalist!"

"It's written Aditya Kumar Tripathi, chief executive reporter at Bhaskar times." Imlie read out slowly.

"So he's telling the truth...."

Suddenly Imlie realised she hadn't yet told Dadda about the police officers.

"Dadda, the police have come looking for you. They dint directly mention you but I know they were looking for you. I deviated them by sending them in the wrong direction but it can't be too long till they reach here. We need to get out of here."

Just as she said that, the siren of the police van echoed around. Satyakam moved towards the door and secured it immediately.

He was weighing his options as to what to do when he heard Aditya's voice.

________________________________________________________

The moment she had stepped inside, the strange feeling within him had returned. He kept looking at her but she was busy questioning her Dadda as to why he had kidnapped him. The way she called him Babusaheb, he dint know why but he loved it.

But then Satyakam had pulled her to the side and he couldn't make out anything from their hushed whispers. The sound of the siren alerted him and once he saw Satyakam securing the lock and looking tensed, he decided to help. He knew he could.

"I can help you out. All you need to do is give me back my ID card, camera and my bag. And then hide behind that large heep of hay. I'll drive them away."

Satyakam looked at him and could clearly see he was speaking the truth. Satyakam freed him and did as he said. He and Imlie hid behind the hay pile while Aditya straightened his clothes. A loud bang on the door ushered him into his role. Even as the door broke open, he who had laid down on a pile of hay pretended to sit up startled.

The policemen looked at him as equally confused as he himself.

"What happened sir? Why have you broken in here?" Aditya asked calmly, feigning innocence.

"Umm nothing but what are you doing in a godown? You seem well enough to settle in the lodge. And who are you by the way?"

" Sir, I'm Aditya Kumar Tripathi, chief reporter at Bhaskar times. ( Forwarding his ID card) I'm here for an article on organic and village life. The whole day was spent in roaming about and visiting the mela. I was feeling extremely tired and saw this abandoned godown. So decided to rest for sometime and then head back."

"Oh! But we were informed that.... nevermind. I'm sorry for disturbing Mr. Tripathi. Enjoy your nap." the officer said handing back his ID to him. He took it and nodded his head.

"Thank you sir" Aditya said and the men left. Aditya sighed and closed the door. That's when Satyakam and Imlie came out of their hiding sighing in relief.

"Thanks a lot Babusaheb for helping us out" Imlie said and he shook his head with a smile.

"Yes thank you Aditya Babu. You handled the situation very well" Satyakam said.

"It's not needed Satyakam. And if you now believe that am no spy, can you give me the permission to take your interview?"

"You are going to take my Dadda's interview?" Imlie squealed like an excited kid. Aditya's smile widened as he nodded his head.

"Yes, if your Dadda allows it" he replied smiling.

Satyakam just nodded with a smile. They decided to drop Imlie first and then move to the lodge. Two bikes had been parked at the backside and while Imlie and Satyakam settled on one, Aditya took the other.

They moved out of the place. Just as they reached midway, the tire of the bike Aditya was riding hit a stone and rendered him off balance, causing him to fall of the bike, landing directly into the bushes nearby.

"Hey Sita Maiyya!" Imlie exclaimed as she hurriedly got down the bike Satyakam had stopped and rushed towards Aditya. She tried to pull him from the bushes, all the while trying to suppress her giggles at the way he had fallen into the bushes. Despite her worry, the way he had fallen was just too funny. Aditya grunted in pain even as he came up with her and Satyakam's help. After he was brought to the sitting position, Imlie who could no longer control herself started giggling. Aditya looked at her annoyed while Satyakam frowned.

"Why are you laughing Imlie? Here he's hurt and you are laughing?" Satyakam asked.

"I- I'm sorry Dadda. I know he's fallen but (giggling more) dint you see the way he fell?? So funny!" she said and chuckled more.

"Ya very funny" Aditya said annoyed making her giggle even more. Satyakam too couldn't help but smile.

"Jhalli kahiki!" Aditya muttered at which she made a face, and tried to stand up, only to wince in pain holding his leg.

Her giggles immediately stopped as she looked at his injured leg.

"Remove your hands and let me see where you've hurt yourself Babusaheb" Imlie said concerned.

Finally caught up with the last two updates as alway thank you for the tag 😊

Coming back to the updates you have as always kept the integrity of there characters intact and with it I love the bonds they are starting do develop of respect and trust. It was so lovely to see the support he offered and with it the truth that he wanted to show. For me the best part has to be the bond between satyakaam and Aditya in all of this.

It’s so true only an act is kindness can show you that there is still hope.

The bond of family was nice and imlie she is such a cutie and yet at the same time so fierce. Love it.

But most of all the soulful connections between them even when they don’t know what it is keeps one reading and wanting more. Wonder how there path then will lead to marriage and one of ultimate love that will overcome all troubles.

Love Raaz

I love the bond between Adi and Satyakam too.

True

Yes that's what I like about her.

Their soulful connect is what makes the whole of this couple. Theirs is a diff kind of love altogether. Marriage will be soon but love will take long, just like the show or maybe the realisation that it's love might take long.

Thanks for your comments. Since I don't get many, in the very little that I get, your long comments motivate me. So thanks a lot.❤️

Indeed the soulful connect in that story is a nice read. One that makes you connect with them as individuals and hopefully as a couple in the future.

Ah I see the marriage track is next. Look forward to reading your take on it 😊 and his the twist of faith binds them.

I agree love is far off but what I love in the beginning was the connect he felt of her presence without her saying a word. It shows you they have a lot of hurdles to cross before there paths intertwine.

rest assured I will always revert even when late on catching up 😊 I can relate with the latter for these little post help once creative view a lot.❤️

Part 13: Bees Saal Pehle

Imlie examined his injured foot, concern writ across her face. Her concern moved him and he involuntarily felt his being calm down, soothed by just the concern in her eyes.

"Is it paining too much Babusaheb?" she asked, gently holding the injured part.

"No, not that much" he said softly and she just nodded ignorantly, her complete focus on whether the wound was deep or not.

Satyakam bent down to hold Aditya's shoulder to usher him back on his feet, while Imlie held from the other side. They managed to stand up and moved to the bike. Helping Aditya onto Satyakam's bike, Imlie came behind them, pushing the bike while Satyakam drove slow.

After what seemed like ages, they finally reached Imlie's home. By then, his wounded leg had started to pain a lot. Imlie and Satyakam both noticed this and requested him to stay back here itself till his leg heals. Left with no other option, Aditya agreed to stay back while Satyakam sent his man to bring Aditya's belongings from the lodge.

Making him sit on the cot, Imlie rushed inside to make some lep (balm) for him, while Meethi brought some hot water to clean the wound. Just as Meethi was done cleaning the wound, Imlie came with the lep (balm) and kneeling down, applied it gently on his injured part, while simultaneously blowing softly to relieve the burning sensation. Unknown to her, her own face twisted slightly as if in pain as she continued to apply the lep (balm) but Aditya was too lost in her to comprehend pain. He just kept looking at her face, not even registering it himself that he was lost in her! The slight breeze caused her jhumka to move, making a slightly jingling sound, creating a soothing tune.

After she was done applying the lep (balm), Imlie wrapped a cloth around his wound, the slightly sharp movement causing him to snap out of his trance.

For a moment or two, he just looked around to make sense of the surroundings and then it dawned upon him what he was actually doing. He immediately averted his eyes from her, berating himself internally for shamelessly staring at her like that.

But as she began helping him with placing the injured foot on the cot, his eyes went back to her alluring face. She lifted her eyes to meet his once the work was done and that was the moment time stilled. Both kept looking at each other unblinkingly. It felt as if something held them in that moment, not allowing them to look away.

The loud clang of utensils brought them out of reverie and they immediately looked away. She immediately stood up and went inside the hut to bring him some food while he squeezed his eyes shut, taken aback by what he was doing.

"What the hell Aditya? Why the hell were you staring at her like that? She must have felt so..... weird.. Look, this isn't right. You have the love of your life waiting for you back home. Just wind up things here and get going. There is no need to pay heed to these feelings. Under..." Aditya's internal monologue was disturbed by Imlie calling out to him with a plate of food. He took it from her silently and started eating, after which he called it a night. The last sight his droopy eyes registered before closing was a concerned Imlie looking if everything was alright!

The next two days were spent in giving rest to his injured leg and interviewing Satyakam. This was when he learnt the reason behind Satyakam becoming what he is today.

" Satyakam the rebel wasn't this 20 years ago. He was just an ordinary farmer. He dint have any dreams. All he wanted was to work hard and become capable, for her because she had dreams gleaming in her eyes. Her dreams were nothing unreasonable but I wanted her to have everything she deserved and more. All I ever wanted was her love. But unfortunately, she fell in love with a guy who had come from the city 20 years ago. She was naive and genuinely loved him but he just used her to satisfy his lust. In the name of love, he spent a night with her and ran away like a coward. She was devastated and utterly broken. Had it not been for the child in her womb, she would have given up on her life as well. The child within her gave her the strength to face everything, right from people's taunts to her Amma's abuses. The mother within her had come to the fore, pushing behind the heartbroken lover who deserved justice. That was the day I pledged revenge but....."

"But?"

"Nothing! That was how Satyakam became a rebel. I became a rebel so that I could get justice for her and others like her. I became a rebel so that I could protect her as much as I can. It started out with that but then turned bigger for a better cause. We are ready to move behind the city, but we aren't ready to get crumpled by the city. 20 years I have harboured hate for the city people because all that they know is cheating and betrayal. But I am not that blind in hate to not know that everybody is not the same." he said and just patted Aditya's back while he smiled back.

"She gave birth to a daughter, a daughter many here termed as a sin but for me and her, she has been a blessing. That girl holds immense dreams in her eyes and for her, her Amma is her world. I'm grateful that I could be the fatherly figure in her life. I'm proud of her"

"Satyakam, whom are you talking about? Is it...."

"Imlie" Satyakam said.

"This is my story. But to know more, you can meet Chandu. Imlie will take you to his house. Anyways by tomorrow your leg would be completely alright." Aditya nodded.

Heyy,

Finally caught up with the whole story. Loved reading a slightly alternate version where Aditya is experiencing feelings for Imlie. Really liked that you started writing from the start of their story and writing about their POVs more. Really looking forward to know your version of their experience in the rain.

Beautifully done.👍🤩
