So Malini is noticing everything but doesn't have the courage to admit it to herself yet....so she is just coating it all in a generic, "I'm fighting for my marriage and my husband" funda.....all of this will come out in some outburst at some point but all that Malini is doing right now can no longer be filed under generic jealousy.....she is consumed with complete jealousy of Imlie because of all the attention/importance Imlie is getting from the family as well as Adi.....Malini is not being able to bear it one bit.

Yup which is why her extreme extreme reaction in precap too.. I mean if people will make fun of imlie then am sure she is able to handle them as it is her choice or will take it off and learn from it...why force her to take something off that isn't even visible to rest unless I mean you pour a bucket of water or air will blow it.. but Malini is demanding her to remove it like it is some gum stuck in her hair and how dare imlie disobey her .. that is what that tone is tumhe kaha tha..

She is associating it to adi and her haq being snatched without even knowing that it is her who snatched it and not imlie heck she doesn't even let malini know that... I mean if rest of Tripathi's have accepted it as a general Mata ka sindoor she applies out of faith however unrealistic that may be why can't malini if she isn't doubting..all her am hurting them on purpose came from that only she has now full doubt and she is too meek and weak to go and confront in a straight forward way ke kya chal raha hai.. she would rather do gol gol jalebi jaise outbursts and try to get attention as she herself said ke main dhyaan apni taraf karoongi lol I wonder what that will be given ke iske try na karte huye bhi so far yeh expert thi in pulling sabka attention apni taraf so far😆 Situation koi bhi ho

That's exactly what it was....Malini's generosity/niceness towards Imlie was contingent on Imlie staying "in her place"....the moment Imlie's talent/abilities started to put her in the limelight, Malini wasn't able to handle it and now her pettiness and superiority complex is coming out in the way she is snapping.

Her attachment/dependency on Adi is one part of all this....but she is feeling an overall threat from Imlie, not just cuz Adi is giving attention to Imlie.....I think she resents how everyone is starting to be impressed by Imlie beyond just laughing at Imlie's antics....it was all well and good for Malini when they all considered Imlie a goofy clown....but now she's realizing that Imlie has the potential to be given that elevation and respect...and subsequent limelight. That limelight is what Malini is not willing to bear....she seems to think Imlie being in the limelight dims her own importance....so that does show the level of insecurity that's always been inside her that she's covered up all this while. Otherwise why would anyone be insecure of such a giving/selfless soul like Imlie?

Re: "fight for my rights" perception.....lol well I can't speak for those who actually buy into that logic....to me the mandir scene was not any display of strength or fighting...it just showed the level of Malini's delusions and excuses she is giving to herself to justify what she is doing even though it is clearly wrong...she now feels entitled to misbehaving with Imlie as a part of her "fight for her rights".....that will never be considered right in the books of anyone viewing this with logic.

Agreed, she seemed upset to everyone praising imlie on tv as well. I don’t know if they’ll actually address it in the show like make the characters echo our thoughts or keep it generally looking as if she’s doing this to save her marriage. I hope they do address it.

P.S. I think it’s so much better to discuss something here, ig and youtube seem to make it as if I am fighting for my brother who’s cheating on their sister or something I mean why do people take it so personally it’s just a show 😆 I think this is why I find it better to watch shows outside SM

Exactly.....she is feeling entitled to misbehave with both of them cuz she clearly suspects them but still doesn't have the guts to ask either of them directly about her suspicion....lol

Waise toh "trust" pe bade pravachan diye Didi ne for so long that Adi never gave her cause to doubt him.....so now when he's given you CLEAR cause to doubt, what are you doing? Are you asking him about your exact doubt? Nope....lol cuz you're too scared you won't be able to bear the answer. lnstead you've twisted this whole thing as, "Aditya badal sakte hain toh main bhi badal sakti hoon"😕😆 Hain? lol so you suspect your husband and your solution to that is ki instead of asking him about your suspicion, you start going around acting snotty with him and Imlie? 😆

Phir toh baat wohi ho gayi na that it's not really about person or the relationship...it's only about yourself and what makes you feel superior to others. Malini suspects the truth but she can't bring herself to hear it.....the very possibility that Adi could be in love with Imlie - someone whom Malini clearly considers much beneath herself in every way - in terms of looks, appearance, polish, money....that girl?! Malini didi can't bear it.

Maybe that's part of why she's lashing out at Imlie having topped the state....cuz education is the great equalizer that isn't dependent on looks/appearance/polish/money.....your brains can make you leapfrog above all that.....which is what Imlie's intelligence has done for her in helping her top the exams.....that is what Malini can't bear. I suspect she thinks Adi is drawn to Imlie cuz she topped her exams😆....given the grand speech he gave defending Imlie that day.....lol.....isliye the insecurity...cuz Didi couldn't manage to pull that limelight towards herself regarding the exams.....that is why still lashing out at Imlie regarding those exams jab bhi mauka lage....lol

Word about the precap tone too...she said it exactly like AC does...jaise sab uske ghulam hain that have to follow her orders .

Good post. I’m very wary of opening threads on the forum these days but glad to see someone actually being objective about the characters on this show.

I think I was one of the very few in the beginning who really could not digest the fact that Malini was all over the place. I gave up on her character as badly written for a while. But yesterday’s episode made me reflect a bit on what they were trying to do all this while. I have probably mentioned this on other threads too - these 3 characters are the core of this show because they are not the people who were in a relatively similar situation 20 years ago. Aditya is not a Dev, Malini is not her mother and Imlie is not a Mithi in the sense that she is going to realize her potential not only through her own hard work but with the full support of a man who is her partner. Aditya’s arc took some time to shape up because his acceptance is really the propeller of the story overall. He needed to accept that his real self was something diametrically opposite to what he thought he had invested in his life and relationships so far.

While that progressed they kept dropping these tidbits of Malini’s characterization throughout. In fact the first couple of episodes has a scene where she just does token defense of Aditya in front of her mother. None of her flaws have actually ever been hidden. The situation now is ripe for Malini to unravel into her real self .I.e she has a lot of her mother in her however much she wants to think otherwise. If we actually look back, all episodes until yesterday’s was pretty much what led to the crescendo of that aarti from which her descent starts. She too has to live through her mom’s version of herself in order to get to a point where she is forced to deliberate if she wants to live as that variant forever.

It’s that bridge incident which has been memory holed by her....I feel that is where she recognized it to be something other than what was transpiring on the surface between Aditya and Imlie. It is so ironical that she never questioned it then. Aditya would have died of guilt.

But yes, everything else to do with Imlie is plain jealousy. In the last episode, even Nidhi bhabhi understood that Imlie would wear her dupatta however she wanted to. Malini’s fixation with getting her admission only in her college, giving her hand me downs or wiping that sindoor just looks freaky in comparison.

Re the ghulam bit - that small exchange with Sunder on VD was very indicative actually of who she really was underneath. She sounded terrifying even then.

This just made me think how a lot of this story is about the unraveling of Adi and Malini....both of them wearing these masks for so long - albeit for different reasons...lying to themselves, lying to each other and continuing on this facade for 7 long years.

Now Adi has recognized his true self and is owning it completely. His real self is a more positive/open version of the suppressed self he was living for so long....while for Malini, unfortunately, her real self is turning out to be the polar opposite....much darker, vindictive, elitist, insecure....all the emotions she suppressed for so long with a sweet facade are now pouring out in the worst way possible. Yes, now she has to fully walk this path that she has chosen to decide if she does indeed want to live through her mom's version of herself or choose something better for herself in the long run.

Moments of crisis are the true test of character....Adi has made many mistakes but ultimately in moments of crisis, his conscience never left him....he ultimately did recognize right from wrong....that basic moral grounding was never lost....yes, even as he was mistreating Imlie, his conscience did prick him many times. While for Malini, crisis is revealing yet again that she was never anchored correctly from a moral angle....her sense of right and wrong is totally dissipating as she acts on her worst impulses. She will not move to a better place unless she finds the courage to face who she truly is....not the sweet facade she has been presenting. Adi had the courage to face his true self after a lot of denial....remains to be seen if Malini will ever have that.

Imlie is the only one here who has been comfortable in being her true self always. She is the purest soul of the three for that very reason.

Agreed. She has totally suppressed the bridge incident which was the clearest proof of what Adi feels for Imlie....I feel even the writers likely waffled a bit on that front about whether to begin Malini's unraveling from that incident....remember that precap they gave us and then totally cut out from the actual epi? 😆....where Malini was indeed maaroing sugary taunts about Adi-Imlie ka sabse gehra rishta? lol so I guess the writers wanted to walk it back then and save it for now......I guess they wanted Adi's realization to take precedence before Malini fully unleashes this side of her.....lol

Yes, the exchange with Sundar on VD was quite telling too....when she suspected that receipt of being proof of her suspicion, she was talking very condescendingly with Sundar also....and then later reverted to sugariness with Adi when she was "confessing" what she had suspected about him gifting that outfit to Imlie😆.....it is still staggering to me the level of twisted she is😆.....and LOL@ Adi being hilariously clueless back then also thinking ki "Moon samjhengi"....hahahahaha

I didn't exactly loved the character, since she was always too bland or should i say, one dimensional for me. But this 180 degree flip of so called realism, is hardly convincing.

Malini since the beginning of the show, has been point of earning just sympathy and nothing beyond that. Some people compare her with Mauli of Silsila, which I find absurd, because Mauli was such a strong and wholesome character, the kind of character whose individual journey you would enjoy. That kind of emotion I feel for watching Imlie's journey in this show, which is unfortunately being marred by sindur drama.

But you are right, flawed female lead, either Imlie or Malini are not something ITV Cvs could manage. They have to show them mahan or vamp, hence butchering there characters.

Oh she is definitely not Mauli. The fact that people are comparing her with a character like Mauli based on only one ‘similar’ aspect (it’s not even the same situation, also completely different storytelling) is actually upsetting. The content that itv has been giving us for years has made boxes in which the audience tries to fit the characters in, it’s as if anything that doesn’t fit is not allowed so they’re forcibly trying to make her something she is not.

You know now that we are actually revisiting her scenes and talking more I always found her tone with sundar too condensing too and if you notice subdar usually jokes around with all too and esp thanks to Imlie his formality has lessened a lot wih baaki gharwale too and he does all the nautabki too sabke saamne but with malini he is always so conscious it is always ma'am and all and he stands all attention the moment malini enters the scene.. I thought it had more to do with with him trying to earn brownie points and become the fav but then he dropped that formality with adi too very soon even though adi hired him and initially his whole goal was to get adi ka approval and be ahead of imlie.. which means he probably felt that formality way too soon and knew where to not mess and warned imlie too.

Since we are on the subject of the bridge incident, the other thing that will always be amusing from that scene is how Malini literally had to be coaxed and PAMPERED to fight for her own damn life😆.....she totally refused to budge an inch until Imlie lavished her with praise and gave her a grand bhaashan on the importance of her suhaag😆.

Basically coddling and pampering is all Malini responds to and understands....you take that away from her, she's like an addict with withdrawal symptoms.....that is what we are seeing unraveling these days I guess cuz seeing Imlie get attention makes Malini feel like she isn't getting exclusive pampering anymore.
