Sahir Azeem Chaudhry...
A lonely man still living in the shadows of his past...remembering every day the painful betrayal that changed him from a happy,lively,very much in love artist to a ruthless hardened businessman who keeps himself away from love and the simplest joys life has to offer...like normal food...rains...
His only goal and indeed his reason for living is to fulfil a promise to the person who was his life...whose every wish was his command..who he was closest to...and who betrayed him...the promise that he would become so rich that he would show her she was wrong when she said he could never be a businessman...never be successful...that promise has become a challenge for him and he has been striving towards achieving his goal for the last seven years...
His pain is not hidden...the loneliness is very obvious...the fact that he needs care and comfort to overcome his past and not let it overpower him as it has been doing is crystal clear...
Yet...nobody cared enough to offer that comfort...to ensure that he overcame the bitterness and started living in the present ..looking forward to the future again...
But his bitterness did not make him oblivious to the pain of those around him...he has always cared..
For Alvira...his mother...who has accepted that he lives in bitterness...who did not stop him from making a past promise his life...until she found him staking everything he has on that promise..
Sahir cannot see tears in her eyes and will do anything she says to ensure she is happy! Be it taking on his brothers responsibility or taking on an employee whom he did not want... Allowing against his will the same employee to live in the house... Apologizing for something that wasn't his fault so that his mother is not shamed..
For Zaki... The wayward philandering brother who is too busy living life king size to bother about finding out what is troubling the elder brother he seems to love... He is lost in his own world..
Sahir could not stay angry at him long even when he ruined his big fashion event with his irresponsible ways.. He could not stand the fact that Zaki was sad after receiving a deserving slap for his behavior from Alvira... He was the one who comforted Zaki.
For Kurti aapa... The nanny who seemed to have his best interests at heart but whose words and actions are contrary and confusing! Who went behind his back to reveal the reason for his pain after promising not to... Who made him dance in her happiness and did not even notice how morose and in pain he looked..
Sahir values her presence in his life.. He gives in to her emotional blackmail and still reminds her of how important she is to him.
For Arzoo... Whether she was an employee or a guest or the one who affected him enough to begin to crack his shell..
Sahir cared as a boss.. He saw her rude resignation letter as a sign of her immaturity and rewarded her talent.. He deduced that she was telling the truth about the stolen design when she couldn't prove it herself... He wanted her to learn the more practical aspects of a business.. He could never stand tears in her eyes... He sensed her change of mood and asked her what the problem was... And still cheered her up when she didn't want to reveal the reason... He defended her against his own family...He cared enough to ask her the truth even when he had seen her at the hospital filling out pregnancy test forms with his brother...
His family.. Be it Alvira..Zaki...KA ...Anam..Sheraz.. All lived a life of luxury provided by him.. As a result of him making that promise an obsession!
He stopped living life as it should be lived for that promise.
And they should have cared about him... Enough to help him out of such a lonely life...
But they didn't.. They just stood on the sidelines and enjoyed the fruits of his obsession.. They are the ones who are selfish because they didn't care enough..

And one who cares is not selfish... Not at all.
