I feel like I am trying hard to like Humsafars. There is too much consistency in how Gul creates her characters and weaves her story. So, while Asad was the Black Coffee type guy, Sahir is eating Burnt Toast, which I think is very very very weird. I feel as if Gul has taken her juxtapositions, her "symbolism", her "contrasts" way too far this time, and a bit over the top. They are very evident, because they shout out at you from the rooftop. There is nothing subtle about these comparisons. And, this is what I disliked. It's like she is trying to shove them to me, push them through my throat. Ah, how I miss the subtle contrast of ZGH, for that matter.
So far, I feel like Humsafars doesn't offer anything new to someone who has not watched a Gul show. I will wait and watch, but I see "Gul" written over every scene, every character. And, Allah knows, that the "Allah knows" is also a bit annoying! :) As is the "three word" name of the lead male character. :). Haan, naam mein wazan hai, but well, lol.
But, like I said, I am willing to give this a few weeks. If I still feel that I am compelling myself to watch it, I'll pass. If she grips my attention, Gul I mean, I am sold.
