Why can't Indian soap-operas sustain for more than 1-2,or maximum 5years?This is the question Ive been asking myself for quite sometime,because most of the American sitcoms run successfully for as long as a decade,without a change in the cast,and in the theme of the show either.There are many examples,such as the well-known show,"The X-Files",which was aired on Starworld,ran for 10years;"FRIENDS",which also ran for 10years;then we have "BONES",which has started on 2005,and is a great success,going on with its new Season.And in all of these shows,the cast remained the same,and have appealed to the audience,not only from America,but India as well,over the years.Besides what's interesting about these shows is that,along with the actors,the characters have also transformed,regarding their actual age or,physical appearance.And this aspect of the American sitcoms is fascinating;not only the story evolves with the passage of time,but the characters also evolve gradually and naturally.And this is what I've been wondering about:why can't Indian television script-writers and directors maintain this stability in their show?Most of the time the story gets off the track,resulting in the disappointment of the audience,as we see in "HD";suddenly the actors are changed;the story takes a leap of 5-10 years,with the forced upon age-effect shown on the actors,which contradicts the characters,as well as the actors look.
I really don't get,what is the 'mantra' that Indian sitcoms are missing?Is it the story of the dramas,which most of the time reflects the writers' lack of research on the theme?,or is it the lack of research by the writers,or directors on the interest of the audience?;or is it the interval of time that is not divided into seasons?Well,whatever the answer,fact remains that it is affecting shows like "HD",which has such brilliant cast,and so much potential in the story.I really hope that our script-writers and creators of TV sitcoms have a look into the flaws and we,the audience get to enjoy our shows for long .And for the examples that I've mentioned,are meant only for a comparison between TV sitcoms of two different nations,with audience also from our country.Share your views.
