In real life it's actually pretty hard for people SO different from each other to actually end up getting together.

Yeah, in books anything can happen, but in real life it is necessary for couples to share something similar in personality, otherwise they constantly bicker because they have different opinions on almost everything. Opinions will obviously differ from person to person, but the major parts of someone's personality cannot differ too much from his or her partner's, or else they will never find common ground to build their relationship. This 'opposites attract' concept works with dating, perhaps, but when it comes to marriage and long-term commitment, a couple needs to share more similarities than differences.
I also agree that Ron and Hermione balance each other out when it comes to outer qualities, but when we take their inner personalities and beliefs into consideration, I feel they are very similar. Both have the same type of insecurities, they believe in the same causes, and their mindset is very similar.

I don't think J.K Rowling did anything wrong in killing of beloved characters. It is heartbreaking and morbid, but it reflects the nature of the books and the situation. Towards the end of the series Harry Potter is no longer a fun magical children's series, but has matured into a darker and mature young adult series. The untimely and tragic deaths reflect this tremendous growth in the series. Without it Harry Potter would remain a series meant for younger sheltered audiences. In fact I am from the school of thought that the ending with the most impact would have been one where Harry himself died.

Of course she ruins everything with the clichd "happily ever after" ending in the epilogue. It has been quite an ordeal erasing the epilogue from memory.

As for the relationships, there are some I like and some I don't. I don't care too much about them either way though. Most people perceive characters and character relationships differently so people are bound to feel that a different pairing would have been better. I personally think Harry/Luna would have been much better as I'm not too fond of Ginny as a character. Hermione and Ron seem a bit too awkward of a couple for me, but I don't find it too bad. I think the book would have had more depth if she also delved into dating and romantic interests for the darker characters like Draco Malfoy. A love interest for Draco would have been the perfect foil to take us into his mind as he shares his perceptions on things with the ones he loves.

@Janaki- Ron and Hermione largely remind me of me and my sister. We bicker just like that. It is necessary to have common belief's...not all, but some.
@return_to_hades- I think she should have explored Draco and Hermione. It would have been imperfectly perfect.
And about the death of characters, I understand Dobby's, Dumbledore's, Snape's...but not my poor RLNT's. 😒

^^ Rowling wrote what she wanted for the first book, and that became famous, didn't it? Authors aren't servants to the people, so though they may take fans' interests under consideration, the ultimate decision falls to them, not the fans. Plus, almost everyone I know loved DH and the ending, it's just our personal perception whether we like it or not, but we need not generalize that to everyone.
Plus, I don't think it had a 'happily ever after' ending...the epilogue was neither happy nor tragic. It was just normal, and kind of expected since 19 years after Voldemort died, people would have moved on with their lives. None of them were jumping around with joy, they were just calm and collected as they sent their children off to Hogwarts, like every normal parents.
I liked the epilogue, because it showed us that they did indeed move on with their lives and re-built the wizarding world so that it once again bore semblance to how it used to be. Ever after war, life goes on, and I think this is the message JKR was trying to convey through the epilogue. It didn't seem like a cliche, 'happily ever after' ending at all.

You know, Mihika, things have their flaws. But let's just consider that Rowling had her reasons for not putting Harry and Hermione together and killing people who were not Harry's friends. Crux is, they were all attached with Harry and so, they died for him. Only thing I really do not understand is Harry and Ginny's pair, I'd have to read further and get back on that, though. Remus and Sirius, that's confusing.

All about Sirius getting all the attention, even though Remus loved Harry heaps too. Like, what Mihika's mentioned in her botheration. I am confused, I dun think I buy it, though. Harry has a high regard for both.

high regard is a differnt issue..but u remeber tht line "and there was remus, just too happy to be with james and sirius"-in the last book...?
it clearly showed tht he was an xtra.:(
and yes..sometimes ppl who stand by are not xactly very important cuz they may b wid u even wen u are wrong..but standing against your frnds proves ur frndship..like neville did in the first book..hope u guys read TOI. :)
and thts too wat hermoine used to do..ginny was more like just there..not doing anythng..
and yes i agree it was a book on harry-voldy not harry-ginny..so ..probably everyone had to end up marrying someone or the other. :P
