AWESOMENESS!

I can't believe this is a David Yates film..lol..He actually managed to stay true to the book.Honestly, I was never a fan of Yates' HP films. I HATE the guy for what he did to OOTP & HBP.He really bombed with the last two.So I had kept my expectations to a minimum.I was ready to see some horrible editing but I was pleasantly surprised.. :)

DH, IMO, is Yates' best work till date.It perfectly captured the tone of book 7 and had some kickass action scenes.Loved the cinematography and how it maintained a feel of grit while still remaining just beautiful.

Though it did get a bit slow in the middle but I didn't mind it - it was super speedy in comparison to the book's version of this section. And it's not like they were roasting marshmallows the whole time. There was some good character moments and exposition to get out of the way the whole time.

I liked the dry humor but it was misplaced at certain points. I wish they had toned it down a bit.And then there were few moments which were blaah.I guess these things can be overlooked.

Rupert Grint - *bows down* In terms of acting, I always found RG better than the other two.He has really proved himself with DH.
Daniel was SO much better here than in HBP but he faltered at times (Like the Ron-Harry fight sequence.Rupert was amazing! Dan, on the other hand, gaah! 😵 ) Emma looks gorgeous and did her part brilliantly.

All in all I would give it a 4.5/5 :D

I HAVE to watch it again! :P

P.S. -Thank You David Yates for making the H/Hr fan inside me happy :D

I consider myself a big Harry Potter fan, but of the books and not the movies. Yet, when the first trailer came out, I kept re-watching it lol. For some reason however, when the movie actually released, the excitement just died. Mostly because of the actors, now this is my opinion, but I feel Daniel sucks as portraying Harry Potter. It's like he just doesn't understand the character, and it ruins it for me. Examples will follow in the next questions. But still as a loyal fan, I always go and watch the movies. Although they usually disappoint me...unfortunately.

- Thoughts on the movie and other technical aspects? The performances, direction, screenplay, cinematography, music, editing, visual effects, art direction...?

The movie started out on a great note. The beginning was great, dramatic, although I wish they had shown the little goodbye scene between Dudders :P and Harry lol it was cute, but im glad they included the Hermione n her parents bit. But as it continued, it started to dip. As a fan, I'm embarrassed to say that at one point I was actually bored and yawning!! I loved the direction though, iono if it was caz of the weather, but I actually felt cold throughout the movie lol, especially the lake scene. I was freezing!!! LOL I wish there was more of Hagrid and Snape in the movie. They are the best actors in the series n also my fav characters. Moving on to acting Daniel I'm sorry just can't pull off Harry Potter. The one scene that made me cringe was when Ron and Harry are having their little "fight" in the tent. It was horrible to watch. Also, they kind of didn't focus on the whole Dumbledore's past thing, I mean they did, but it didn't get the sort of reaction from the characters, as portrayed in the book. Also, I'm sorry but Fleur and Bill are supposed to be gorgeous, personally these characters were totally miscasted; I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but they are supposed to be the conventional good looking types, and that was totally not the case. Mundungus Fletcher also was miscasted!! I missed McGonagall too. For some reason Harry and Ron looked really old in the film, I know they are supposed to be living in the woods and all, but iono...Iol can't explain. Oh and the dance scene did not belong there AT ALL, it was a totally useless addition. Harry never tries to cheer Hermione up, in fact he's so drowned in his own sorrow that they don't even talk. It was just pointless, as I said its as if they don't understand Harry's character.

- How did the trio grow and evolve as an actor? Who was the best of the three?

I think I've kinda answered this already. Emma is the best actor of the three, but I have a soft spot for Ron, so I'm kinda partial towards Rupert as well lol. He's cute :) Dan has grown too, but iono something's just a miss.

- How close was it to the book? How much did they leave out that made you pull out your hair in frustration?

It followed the book very nicely. The last part, Malfoy Manor, was a disappointment. It wasn't as powerful as in the book. It's supposed to be dramatic!!! Also I loved the Nagini bit at Godric's Hollow, but was let down when Voldermort didn't show up lol. I was all whispering to my friend too, here comes Voldyyyyyyyy, but he didn't come. :(

- Was the split appropriate or not? Was it effective? Was it really needed or did WB just do it to rake more money?

Yeah I guess. It's the best they could've done. I just hope the last one is worth it though. It has the battle of Hogwarts!!! I mean what else do you need???

- How was the pacing? Did it drag at any place or was it too fast to follow?

Yeah it did. The whole forest bits were a drag...

- Any scene/dialogue/performance that stuck out?

Nagini was my fav actor :) She was genuinely scary!!! :P

- Anything in the movie that you [relatively] found better than the book (a particular scene, for instance)?

Hmmmmmmmm, the whole breaking the Horcrux bit with Ron was pretty cool, but I didn't see him hug Harry after that. I would've liked to see some bromance there, but maybe I missed it?

- Was it the best of the series? Where would you place it when compared to the other HP movies?

Hmmmm meh, I don't have a fav movie. But yeah it was about the same as the others!!

- Was it not better than Twilight? 😆

Definitely better than Twilight! Although I've read all the Twilight books and watched the movies as well lol. But Harry Potter is Harry Potter :)

- Finally, on a quite unrelated note, are you still obsessed with this series or has that phase gone long ago?

The books, I still read every other month or so :) I commute a lot lol so always have to have a book with me, and HP is more frequently my companion than anything else. It breaks my heart when summer comes, and I can't go and preorder the upcoming HP books. I really miss the excitement of a new HP book coming out, and iono lol I miss the books. :( But I don't think I've watched any particular HP movie more than 5 times =P

- How excited were you about it? And how did it turn out to be? Did it meet your expectation? How was it? Fantastic, decent, or dreadful?

Much much more than just fantastic. It was very well directed and the actors..team work finally got their acting skills on the display. Though, it had less of magic, it will always (till part 2) be my favourite Harry Potter film so far.

- Thoughts on the movie and other technical aspects? The performances, direction, screenplay, cinematography, music, editing, visual effects, art direction...?

Now what can I say about the performances? The trio was awesome. I expected less from Daniel considering my disappointment from HBP but after seeing him here, I must say 'This is our boy wizard'. Rupert was sensational like always. Emma Watson managed to open my eyes, especially at the Malfoy Manor scene.
David Yates always did tried to create film beyond the ordinary and DH part 1 is a solid example.
Screenplay by Steve Kloves was smashing...each part was brought alive with a new 'zing'.
I always admired Eduardo Serra's cinematography. So no comments on this one.
I was disappointed when I heard on BBC that Nicholas Hooper will not be composing for Deathly Hallows part 1 ( because his Order of the Phoenix soundtrack still plays on in my ears), but the soundtrack for this film was bit down.
Loved Mark Day's editing Of OOP and so will have to appreciate his editorial tactics for this film as well.
I think visual effects would be too short for words.
Art direction....too short for words too. Love love love the animation of the Tale of the Three Brothers.

- How did the trio grow and evolve as an actor? Who was the best of the three?
Certainly, that is something you should notice if you watch all the seven films all at once...from immature child like performances to mature adult like smashes are something worth praising.
I think all of them did justice to their characters..it would be unfair on anyone's part to judge like that.

- How close was it to the book? How much did they leave out that made you pull out your hair in frustration?

They kept to the book, and like J.K.Rowling said that if anyone have any complains regarding the film..blame it on the book. Although, they could have shown the torture of Hermione using the cruciates curse instead of the knife.

- Was the split appropriate or not? Was it effective? Was it really needed or did WB just do it to rake more money?

The Split was very necessary, in that way, they can show the war in full details. If they were to compile all the details in just 150 minutes, then it would be a mess and very confusing. i respect their choice.

- How was the pacing? Did it drag at any place or was it too fast to follow?
The pacing was perfect. I thought that they would just drag the camping scenes ut they did not..made it short and simple.

- Any scene/dialogue/performance that stuck out?

"Moorning"-George Weasley. Love him!

- Anything in the movie that you [relatively] found better than the book (a particular scene, for instance)?

The comedy was better, in fact at times, the camping scenes were better, you can actually feel it. Can I mention the animation of the tale of the Three Brothers..again? :-)

- Was it the best of the series? Where would you place it when compared to the other HP movies?

Definitely! Then it is OOP for me.

- Was it not better than Twilight? 😆

I always thought that Harry potter was wayyyyyyy......... better and more advanced than Twilight freak! Hate those vampires..especially Robert+Kristen. The main reason for my hatred is because it has been copied form TVD and the Vampire Slayer!

- Finally, on a quite unrelated note, are you still obsessed with this series or has that phase gone long ago?
Are you mental? I will always worship HP series like anything. I literally cried when I closed Deathly hallows after reading it. And now I really feel like crying..only one more movie left to go.

How excited were you about it? And how did it turn out to be? Did it meet your expectation? How was it? Fantastic, decent, or dreadful?

It is easily one of the most awesome movies of 2010!!
Thoughts on the movie and other technical aspects? The performances, direction, screenplay, cinematography, music, editing, visual effects, art direction...?
I thought the cinematography was brilliant. David Yates gave this one his best as a director, they paid a lot of attention to details of the story and the emotional developments between the characters, which was great to watch. The screenplay was perfectly paced, kept me on the edge of my seat, even though I know the books. Very few of the scenes were a little rushed though, but I can forgive that. Overall, a great cinematic success!
How did the trio grow and evolve as an actor? Who was the best of the three?
For me, the thing is these same actors have been playing these characters for a decade now, so it is not even about performance to be honest. They have engaged themselves into these rich and fantastic characters so beautifully that in one way or another, they have "become" their characters, it is like second nature to them. I feel like I am not watching performances, I feel like I am watching them. It feels like they have literally come out of the pages of the books. If I had to choose, purely on the basis of acting skills I think it is tie between Rupert and Emma. I cannot pick between these two. On the other hand, honestly, I have seen Dan giving much better performances than that, but it is true that nobody can play Harry the way he does, like I said, one way or another, they have "become" their characters and that is entirely fantastic. Special mention to Ralph (Voldemort), he is just too good. Overall, they all were so good, they play their characters very convincingly as always, but Rupert and Emma for me.
How close was it to the book? How much did they leave out that made you pull out your hair in frustration?

For me, the books will always be superior to the movies, but as a fan I was very much satisfied, some of my expected scenes were not there, but this was a good cinematic ride, so hardly any complaints.
Was the split appropriate or not? Was it effective? Was it really needed or did WB just do it to rake more money?

The Split was the best thing that has happened in the Harry Potter series. If they truly want to do justice to the book, they would really need to make it into 2 parts. Deathly Hallows is a beautiful book, so they really need to give it their best shot. It was definitely effective, and they have a big cliff-hanger, so I am really excited.
How was the pacing? Did it drag at any place or was it too fast to follow?
The pace was perfect with the correct amount of drama, thrill, suspense, humor and romance.
Any scene/dialogue/performance that stuck out?

George's gooooooooood morningggggg to Harry and Ginny and all the Ron and Hermione moments

Anything in the movie that you [relatively] found better than the book (a particular scene, for instance)?

For me, the most beautifully written scene was Harry and Hermione's dance (not in the book) I immensely love the relationship between Harry and Hermione so to me that scene was a great surprise, very pleasant. It is one of the best scenes in the movie, really. It is a dance of friendship, not romance, and thats what makes it so beautiful, adorable and natural. They are two friends trying to find comfort in each other's company, just by leaving their troubles behind for two minutes. For a second, I thought they were eleven years old again. It is beautifully done, and Dan and Emma are just adorable.

I think Dobby's death was really nicely done, very beautiful and touching.
The Tale of the Three Brothers was AMAZING!! It is one of the most stunningly done animations of recent times and this makes the tale so much more real.
The comedy was GREAT too! Rupert rocked it at that!!

I love the Harry Potter series since it began, so I love all the movies pretty much, lowest being Order of Phoenix and the Chamber of Secrets and the most loved being Half-Blood Prince. I would place this one at the top though. As a movie, everyone gave their best to this one.

I am a HUGE Twilight fan, but as a series I am more attached to Harry Potter and as a movie, Deathly Hallows was wayy better than any other Twilight movies.
And yes, Harry Potter is still quite my obsession, and I plan to go on a marathon once the Deathly Hallows DVD comes out! 😛

Kay, I just came back from watching DH for the second time. It was amazingggggggggg! I LOVED it. I must say that I love the Seven Potters scene. Daniel was absolutely spot on with playing each individual character. And loved Harry!Hermione's appalled face when she complains about his eyesight. So perfect. :P I gushed when Ron touched Hermione's face after the fight in the cafe. She just kinda snapped out of her thoughts and looked at him, lol. <3 Fell in love with all these Ron/Hermione moments. Lucius was perfect. Jason Isaacs plays him so well. Same with Alan Rickman playing Snape. The snake part kinda scared me though....LOL. I love the whole ministry part. The whole thing was hilarious and Bellatrix was amazing! Gaaawd, She is one crazy b!tch. the scene where she tortures Hermione was outstanding! yea, but it was horrible to watch. I swear it was like the best bit of acting Emma Watson's done this whole franchise. Seriously, the whole cast of Harry Potter is amazing, they amaze me every single movie. <3
All in all, its a spectacular beginning of the ending. Can't wait to watch Part 2.. It's the Battle of Hogwarts!!! *woohoo*

HP7 was good.....it was better than the past two films destroyed by Yates!

Oh ! how much I hated it when they announced that he was the director for the finale! but i guess it wasn't too bad after all!

My take on the actors----

Dan as Harry---- he did good.....but somehow not as well as expected. may be i had expected way too much ...but the Harry in books seemed to evoke more emotions by just the words than this harry visible on screen. May be it's just me. i don't know.

Rupert as Ron--- WOAAAAAAH! this dude surprised me! I have always....ALWAYS liked his humor scenes in HP....but this time he wowed me by his emotional performance as well! To be frank.......i think Ron out did Harry in their scenes together...especially in that fight scene! Ron's expressions...his voice...his gestures everything was so much better than Harry's that i felt more for Ron rather than Harry.

Emma as hermione--- I have always liked hermione's character...and emma's portrayal of the character. I liked the starting moment when she erases her memory from her parents...that was an emotional moment and emma did good at it.

Hermione and Ron--- Liked every bit of these two....it's a perfect combination of humor and lil love...heheheh

Harry and Hermione--- in the books....i always wanted harry to end up with hermione...but somehow i'm happy that they didn't. Harry and Hermione's relationship has this unique sense of subtlety in it which is rare yet sorta relatable. It was more like a sibling love between them with a bit of maternal dash at times from hermione.

Tom felton as draco--- Darn it! i wanted to see more of this dude! I like draco's character and the book has so much more about the character......i just wish the movies also gave more of draco.

The most significant moments of the movie---- the starting scenes, harry-ron fight, hermione- ron moment after ron returns, harry-hermione moment at godric's hollow and dobby's death :((
I cried while reading it in the book.....but the movie didn't evoke that strong of a reaction...but still it was well shot. Dan did good there!

i hated Harry-Ginny scene and Dan and Bonnie have no chemistry ...PERIOD! ughhhh why did they pick bonnie to play Ginny! she just doesn't make it work......whatever!

For me Ron was the surprise package! Rupert did awesome in every scene!

the Ministry scene was fun but yeah it was definitely rushed through!
the tale of 3 brothers could have been cut a lil short.......too much time was spent on that. it was well made but too long for me!

The starting scene was nicely shot. loved that they opened it that way...although i would have preferred seeing teeny bit of Harry and Dursley's moment..but o well!

I think this is what it is!....Yates sucks at directing death scenes! it all started with Sirius's death ....then Dumbledore's death...and now dobby's! there's something on Yates's part that is missing...the actors do their part well....but Yates is lacking somehow. Humphhhhhhhh!

That being said....I wanted more of Snape! gosh! i hope we get more in the second part! they dragged a bit in the middle with the forest camping...but o well. that's fine.

the part where Bella tortures hermione was strongly emotional in the book....the movie didn't evoke such emotions again. Again...Yates is to bame!

There was one other scene that i loved how it was shown--- the part when George is attacked and everyone surrounds him...then fred comes in and talks to him and george says he's "Holey"...hehehehe awwwww i love the weasley twins! I can't imagine fred will die in the last part...awwww thats going to be so sad!

anyhow....all in all I would totally recommend watching the movie...because after all it is harry Potter! I'm so looking forward to July 2011 when the finale comes! MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN! the finale?! Oh my gosh! i can't believe it's all going to end!

Hey every1,

I know that every1 has an opinion, but I would like to tell you a bit about what I thought.

Taking into consideration the fact that the last movie wasn't so great, I went to the theatre expecting a half ass movie that didn't do justice to the book at all. I kept expecting to come out with this feeling that I wasted my money on something that wasn't needed, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The acting, cinematography, directing, and everything else was amazing. The scene that really stuck in my mind was where Daniel Radcliffe was trying to cheer Emma Watson up after Rupert Grint left. Watching Daniel Radcliffe dance added a comic relief to an otherwise intense, somewhat dark film.

James and Oliver Phelps added the much needed comic relief to the movie. Rupert Grint's comic timing was very good as well.

The scene that really made me cry was Dobby's death. While his death itself didn't make me cry, the reactions that everyone had to his death made me really cry. Daniel Radcliffe pulled off that scene as if had actually happened in real life. Even Emma Watson and Rupert Grint were brilliant in their face expressions. I especially liked how Evanna Lynch did her role.

The other scene that made me cry was the graveyard scene, when Harry found his parents' tombstones in the church graveyard. The way that scene was portrayed, with very few words but a lot of emotion, really tugged at my heart strings. Daniel Yates made it feel very realistic and both Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe were amazing.

David Yates really impressed me this time. He added small innovations, such as during the Deathly Hallows story, and took out scenes that while important could be done without in the movie.

Overall, I would rate the movie a 9.5 out of 10. 👏
