How excited were you about it? And how did it turn out to be? Did it meet your expectation? How was it? Fantastic, decent, or dreadful?
It is easily one of the most awesome movies of 2010!!
Thoughts on the movie and other technical aspects? The performances, direction, screenplay, cinematography, music, editing, visual effects, art direction...?
I thought the cinematography was brilliant. David Yates gave this one his best as a director, they paid a lot of attention to details of the story and the emotional developments between the characters, which was great to watch. The screenplay was perfectly paced, kept me on the edge of my seat, even though I know the books. Very few of the scenes were a little rushed though, but I can forgive that. Overall, a great cinematic success!
How did the trio grow and evolve as an actor? Who was the best of the three?
For me, the thing is these same actors have been playing these characters for a decade now, so it is not even about performance to be honest. They have engaged themselves into these rich and fantastic characters so beautifully that in one way or another, they have "become" their characters, it is like second nature to them. I feel like I am not watching performances, I feel like I am watching them. It feels like they have literally come out of the pages of the books. If I had to choose, purely on the basis of acting skills I think it is tie between Rupert and Emma. I cannot pick between these two. On the other hand, honestly, I have seen Dan giving much better performances than that, but it is true that nobody can play Harry the way he does, like I said, one way or another, they have "become" their characters and that is entirely fantastic. Special mention to Ralph (Voldemort), he is just too good. Overall, they all were so good, they play their characters very convincingly as always, but Rupert and Emma for me.
How close was it to the book? How much did they leave out that made you pull out your hair in frustration?
For me, the books will always be superior to the movies, but as a fan I was very much satisfied, some of my expected scenes were not there, but this was a good cinematic ride, so hardly any complaints.
Was the split appropriate or not? Was it effective? Was it really needed or did WB just do it to rake more money?
The Split was the best thing that has happened in the Harry Potter series. If they truly want to do justice to the book, they would really need to make it into 2 parts. Deathly Hallows is a beautiful book, so they really need to give it their best shot. It was definitely effective, and they have a big cliff-hanger, so I am really excited.
How was the pacing? Did it drag at any place or was it too fast to follow?
The pace was perfect with the correct amount of drama, thrill, suspense, humor and romance.
Any scene/dialogue/performance that stuck out?
George's gooooooooood morningggggg to Harry and Ginny and all the Ron and Hermione moments
Anything in the movie that you [relatively] found better than the book (a particular scene, for instance)?
For me, the most beautifully written scene was Harry and Hermione's dance (not in the book) I immensely love the relationship between Harry and Hermione so to me that scene was a great surprise, very pleasant. It is one of the best scenes in the movie, really. It is a dance of friendship, not romance, and thats what makes it so beautiful, adorable and natural. They are two friends trying to find comfort in each other's company, just by leaving their troubles behind for two minutes. For a second, I thought they were eleven years old again. It is beautifully done, and Dan and Emma are just adorable.
I think Dobby's death was really nicely done, very beautiful and touching.
The Tale of the Three Brothers was AMAZING!! It is one of the most stunningly done animations of recent times and this makes the tale so much more real.
The comedy was GREAT too! Rupert rocked it at that!! I love the Harry Potter series since it began, so I love all the movies pretty much, lowest being Order of Phoenix and the Chamber of Secrets and the most loved being Half-Blood Prince. I would place this one at the top though. As a movie, everyone gave their best to this one.
I am a HUGE Twilight fan, but as a series I am more attached to Harry Potter and as a movie, Deathly Hallows was wayy better than any other Twilight movies.
And yes, Harry Potter is still quite my obsession, and I plan to go on a marathon once the Deathly Hallows DVD comes out! 😛
