Chapter 19
Her eyes sprang open just as soon as she had shut it. The image that her brain conjured up every time she shut her baby brown eyes were horrifying.
It was all the more horrifying because she had never once in her past ten loved fill months had ever even faintly imagined that her beloved, her Avdesh, would have such a side.
A terrifying, unrelenting side.
True that he had done it because he thought she was harmed. But to her taking a human life was the worst thing. Even if the life belonged to a complete demon like Siddarth.
To her wars and bloody battles were always meaningless.
She believed that love, patience and forgiveness was enough to win any dispute.
"Arpi" Anu called her , placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. She jerked slightly and turned back.
"Anu'you'you shouldn't be here'.you should take rest" Arpi said hastily wiping her tears.
"When my best friend can't even shut her eyes" Anu stated.
Arpi wondered at her friends ability to see right through her. Without a word they hugged, because words aren't enough at times.
Arpita sobbed out her heart while Anu let her tears fall silently.
"Anu I want to meet him" Arpi said after a while.
"I haven't seen bhaiyya either Arpi'.I will try him on phone now" Anu replied without any hesitance.
All three of them wanted answers but Arpita was the one who needed, no deserved it the most. Avdesh had escorted them to Anu's home wordlessly and then left them.
He hadn't seen eye to eye with any of them.
"Hello bhaiyya" Anu said as she heard the call getting connected.
"Hum Bauji bol rahein hain'.Babuaji yaha par nahin hain'.aap kaun bol rahein hain" Bauji asked from the other end.
"Mein Ananya Thkaur bol rahi hoon'..kya mein Avdesh Thakur se baath kar sakthi hun" Anu asked a little authoritatively.
Bauji was irritated. No woman apart form her could exert authority over Avdesh. She couldn't bear that.
"I told you Avdesh Thakur is not here'..if you want to pass him any message I will give him" she replied back not bothering to mask her irritation.
"Just tell him to come to my house tonight" Anu said before cutting the call.
Arpita looked at her expectantly.
"He will come Arpi'.if his love was true he will come" Anu replied earnestly.
One day has passed but still I can't get the image out of my head RV thought staring up at the ceiling.
He could still vividly see Siddarth's body arching back and slumping in a heap. Thankfully he wasn't dead but he was in no fit state either.
But why did Avdesh hide this truth from us RV wondered frowning.
He had ventured out of the house today to ask about Avdesh and the things he heard was none too sweet.
Avdesh was the feared Bhaiyyaji of Lallanpur. Belonging to one of the biggest crime families here.
What they had seen yesterday was something the people of Lallanpur were already used to.
But RV was not one to see just one side of the coin and let go. There were people in this village who praised the kind hearted nature of Avdesh. People who belonged to the lowest wrung of the society. To them Avdesh was a messiah.
"Kya ho tum Avdesh'..jo humne kal thak dekha ya jo humne kal dekha" RV said quietly.
The answers to this rested with Avdesh.
A hidden area near a lake''
He had been staring at his reflection for a long while now. Trying to find a few much needed answers.
Why do I feel so low.
I have never before cared what I did or the way I did.
This is the way things are here.
Then why do I feel bad.
Avdesh racked his emotionally over wrought inner self.
Because she can't take it.
Because she doesn't believe in it.
Because she will despise you.
His soul answered.
But her beliefs can't be always right.
Sometimes violence has to be answered with violence.
Really Avdesh, you enjoy taking lives?
Innocent lives.
I have never'
Don't lie to yourself Avdesh.
The bloody revengeful battles of yoours has claimed innocent lives at times and you know it.
Even today did all those goons of Siddarth your men fought actually deserve it.
Siddarth did deserve punishment but death did he deserve that.
And who are you to give out death warrant.
"SHUT UP WILL YOU" Avdesh roared unable to take it anymore.
Frustrated he hit his hand with as much force as he could muster, on a nearby tree.
A long slit opened up in his fist blood flowing out.
He was reminded of the time Arpita had tended to his wound with care, concern and tears in her eyes.
"Arpita I just hope your love for me will be strong enough to forgive me and give me a chance at redemption"
Thakur Haveli'.
Bauji was pacing restlessly in her room. It had been hours since Panditji had gone out to gather information about the girl Arpita.
The call from Ananya had rattled her further. Her Avdesh, her babuaji, her love couldn't be anyone else's.
No one dared exert their authority on him.
Panditji came in.
Bauji almost tripped on her saree running towards him.
"Kya mila Panditji" she asked in a fierce tone.
Ah! The wiles of a woman Panditji thought.
"Kuch khaas nahin Bauji'..humne bus who ladki ko dekha'.lekin ek dhoosri khabar hain Prakash Thakur vapis aa gaya hain" PJ informed.
"Kaun?" Bauji asked frowning.
"Prakash Thakur'..bade Thakur ke chothe bhai'jo bahuth saal pehle ee gar chod kar gaya tha'.who vaapis aa gay hein uske beti ke saath" PJ said.
Bauji was alarmed. This would be another trouble she thought.
She had thought that with the death of her husband and her father-in-law the immense wealth of Thakur's would go to Avdesh. But now the return of this long lost member would mean some trouble in that aspect.
Why else would he be back Bauji thought.
"Pandit ji'.aap uss ladki par nazar rakhna jaari rakhiye" she ordered before going to find Avdesh to inform him about return of this member.
Avdesh entered his room to find his phone ringing.
RV's number flashed on it.
Avdesh picked it up apprehensively.
"RV sab teek tho hain" he asked tentatively
"I won't sugar coat much'.we want to meet you Avdesh'.especially" RV started.
"Arpita I know" Avi said.
"Come to Anu's home'..we will make sure you get some privacy'..Anu will also need some answers too" RV said matter-of-factly.
"And you" Avi asked.
RV remained silent for a while.
"Just come here Avi" he said before cutting the call.
