"Keep love in your heart. A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead. The consciousness of loving and being loved brings a warmth and a richness to life that nothing else can bring": Oscar Wilde
Arpita stood where she was, her eyes still wide with fear. Panic took over, she turned to Bhauji ..I told you! what he must be going through!.. why didn't you listen to me?..why did you let him go?!.....her words and voice carried on and Bhauji had enough.... be quiet, he is fine...I trust in him and his strength...Arpita could not bear this cold attitude and runs off to her room.
"Of mice and men": G. Steinbeck
In a dark lane the convoy of police car come to a halt...the car lights showed the after effect of an ambush by dacoits, the shattered group spread all over the earthen road. RV and his men help, taking some of them to the hospital, while RV and his men move the other way....
The car moving the injured stops suddenly as the elderly man in the front seat attacks his saviour....it looks like Avdesh's game of bluff was successful...soon he and his men have overtaken the police, have them all trussed up and on the ground...Satisfied, Avdesh takes a group and leaves for his rendezvous.....few moments later, RV calls on the police radio enquiring their whereabouts...an officer was forced to tell him that they were attacked by dacoits....on hearing this, RV decides to cancel the operation to apprehend Avdesh and orders so over the radio....Kanoo reports this to Avdesh, who is more cautious...his enemy would not give up so quickly....
In a clear gathering, Avdesh stood waiting with his men for their weapon to come....they cover their face...seeing a truck, a group of the men approach, only to be taken into custody by RV and his men....Avdesh on his way to the opposite side, veers back and pauses in the middle his whole body alert.... he moves his head, his eyes scanning the dark, he sees the police coming out, guns in their hand, like wraiths as the cover him and his men....Behind him, a gun is held to his head by a steady hand...
"Fortune favours the brave": Proverb
Avdesh turns and face's his nemesis. RV.. If I want, I can finish this game here, but I want you to willingly hand yourself to the law...Avdesh holds his gaze...your game was finished the day, kid, you came to bhaiyyaji's house...Both men hold each other's gaze their game of double bluff over...target found. Suddenly, Avdesh whips his leg over and sends Rv's gun flying...and so starts the fight between this two men, so similar yet so different like night and day...in another lifetime they could have been the best of friends, here they are mortal enemies..
As if it's a signal, fight breaks out between the gundas and the police, guns ricocheting in the dark.....in the middle Avdesh and RV fight, equally, neither giving nor losing their corner...their hands and feet their only weapon....a parry here, a thrust, kick, jump, roll, leap...no quarter given at all...more was at stake than just life and liberty.
"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step": English Proverb
A policeman, fighting from his corner turns and see's his commander and Avdesh fighting hand to hand...he lifts his gun and shoots Avdesh on the shoulder.....Avdesh stoods stock still, his eyes wide with astonishment.....the force of the shot, propels him backward, he loses his footing and falls in the black water of the river behind him....RV comes running, his face shocked and determined not to lose his quarry, his hand outstretched...to hold?...he watches as the water embraces, and then covers it's offering...the red blood of Avdesh's mixing and then being swept away as his body sinks without a sound....silently and without a trace.
At the haveli, Arpita see's the diya, she had lighted, go off. ...Deep rooted fear flashes across her face at the symbolism.
My thoughts:
First things first, Avdesh is not dead. He will be found, soon. It is to keep us in suspense over his fate but if he was killed off, well the show would be over.... One thing though, I believe this track will lead to Avdesh's eventual realisation that he cannot go on as a gunda, that he would need to change his life. The play between cop and gunda showed the gunda 'losing'.....
He was determined to have his showdown with RV, ever since Arpita begged for his life. So tonight he got his chance and he could have fought all night and day, if that officer had not intervened. So it makes me think, was it chance or by plan, he was shot?...At first I wondered if he and RV had not planned this together but RV's shocked face spoke volumes. He is a decent guy he would have never wanted to win like this, he would have preferred to take Avdesh in handcuffs instead.
On the whole, this was an action episode, showing the other side of Avdesh Singh Thakur. The way they entrapped the police, coolly went about with his gun shipment rendezvous showed how adept he is at this game, how long he has been doing it and how comfortable he is. It is part and parcel of his life as a gunda and more, which we may see eventually.
Back at the haveli, Arpita is still worried, again all in character. I really think that Avdesh's shooting will be her make or break time....as in she will have to come to a decision whether to remain in constant fear or at least shore up some courage. She is in this for a lifetime, she would never leave him of her own volition but neither can she go on like this, it is not a happy recipe for wellbeing nor a happy marriage...her husband's lifestyle demands his woman be at least courageous on the face of it. We will see how Arpita transforms but one thing for sure, her desire to see him leave his arms behind and the lifestyle associated with it will be on the increase now.... her love requires him to be safe and sound. To share in the future they both dream and long for.
So what did you all think?...surely you didn't think he had died?😲😆😉
