Well watch closely, she has slapped Kesar earlier also, but this one has totally different expression and she comes back to her room crying, bending and hitting the door with her fist, not believing. She never expected that she would ever hear this. If this is not the case then we can consider this all as overacting on part of Gulaal why should she be shocked since he is already her pati and has a right.

And these E24 etc. ppl hardly ever follow the storylines of shows closely enough to know what they are talking about...a few days back a segment was also talking about a "love triangle" b/w Kesar-Talli-Kunal...and do we see that? Umm I don't think so.
thats the projection of the show in the media. You can't blame them for understanding this. Well watch it again, I have done even today 😃

Gulaal has NEVER thought of Kesar as her "son"...if that was the case, the zillion and one other signs of what the K and G relationship would evolve as since the very beginning of the show...none of those signs would be shown.

I have already referred to Gulaal ki kahani part 2 on youtube from 4:30 to 6:30. Watch it, look at her the way she kisses him and makes him understand.

Gulaal NURTURED Kesar when he was younger, yes she did...but is the only label for nurturing someone equivalent to making them mother-son? A woman nurtures a man in so many ways, in so many roles...these things evolve with time. Probably not handled appropriately by the writers.

I am regular in Gulaal forum. We might have seen each other previously in different discussions. But this is the first time I am having a feeling of virtual " adda" (in Bengali).
Gulaal take me to this forum, I am spending long hours here. But the ebove points I tried to explain is not exactly my feeling always. people in this forum share kind of similar thoughts about Gulaal and I am not different. I have deep analysis about the show and I do understand the logical reasoning.
Here I tried to be a stranger and tried to understand as a normal viewer...from the surface..
For example how my mom is watching this show, or how my aunt is taking this drama. My intension was to find out some points which really can help us to catch the real reason and work on it.
A great piece of Art need to be critisised just to improve it more. I am an Architect, I often invite critics and friends, just to criticise my design or art work. It gives my work, lots of improvement.

^Again you're making these mother-son assumptions on the way Gulaal used to be affectionate towards Kesar 😕
If this is not the case then we can consider this all as overacting on part of Gulaal why should she be shocked since he is already her pati and has a right.
Why wouldn't she be shocked? She never in her wildest dreams thought that Kesar would fall in love with her. But JUST because she was shocked, it makes her feelings motherly?? 😕 That's bizarre!! Gulaal HAS seen Kesar as a child, no-one can deny that so obviously she wouldn't take it easily but like I said, if you want to LABEL their relationship then this show isn't for you :)

IDC if this show isn't for the 'popular' audience and I'd rather it stay that way. The popular viewership can happily watch their senseless rubbish, the minority here is content with watching this quality drama. If the majority think it's taboo then so be it! If they are happy watching countless marriages between the lead couple and memory loss tracks then SO BE IT!

I'm happy this show isn't 'popular' :)

You have completely missed the point...it is not the writers, but you who have not managed to get the essence of the scenes. I've watched these scenes just recently before and I did not remotely get any such perception about them that you seem to have...I can't even understand with what expectation you are watching this show then if you thought Gulaal slapping Kesar in that scene was "motherly"😕😆

The writers as well as the actors have handled this EXCEPTIONALLY WELL in my opinion👏👏 I couldn't ask for a better team to bring forth such a sensitive subject in such a beautiful manner.

It may be true that Gulaal has not been given the right kind of support by Star Plus (other than the prime time slot). I remember at Star Parivar Award 2011, Gulaal was suppressed very badly by shows which did not deserve to be called shows. The worst thing was that in the new comer's category (I guess that was) Mansi Parekh was nominated and the award was shared between the two actors Gopi and Rashi from the same daily show. I have seen that serial recently to understand the level of acting / or what is special that they have. Its the most monotonous role and storyline I have ever seen. Nothing personal against that show but mostly all the lead roles are more like robots/zombies. No expressions whatsoever. Its a school level acting display. Yet it was one of the popular shows at Star Parivaar Awards. It was being projected very highly along with 2-3 more shows.

So I was wondering if Gulaal not being given the limelight for a show which is running at the prime time. Is it because of Ekta Kappor, whose ego has earned her more enemies than friends. But Gulaal is something really creative and possibly only someone like Ekta Kapoor can come up with such a show. Or simply that Gulaal is being mishandled by StarPlus.

Gulaal has big caste and each one of them is a thorough professional. I guess (Rahil Azim) Vasant had more magic as a protagonist than Neil Bhatt. Nothing against Neil as an actor as he is doing a great job and portraying his character professionally, just in comparison of the presence. But Vasant did make a great difference to the show possibly because of the romantic track and he could do all what a hero could do. I have seen all the earlier episodes of Gulaal and he is marvelous. Now he is out. But in Gulaal all the actors have been brilliant in performing their roles.
I don't want us to start arguing about the Neil and Rahil, they are both great, but the show is not clicking at the TRPs!!!

Here is the question where I would appreciate your input. This may help the CVs to understand how we look at the show. You may help save Gulaal by giving your valuable input.

We have great caste, great storyline, great director and a prime time slot, the TRP's are still going down, what is wrong and where??? How can the TRPs/ popularity of the show be brought up without compromising much with the uniqueness and high standards of the show?

PS: Instead of writing 300 words paragraph, can you list the points in bullets! Whatever you feel is stopping the show from becoming popular.
thanks.

hey POPULARITY is a RELATIVE TERM. so TRPS are the parameters of popularity u mean to say.
many diff variations of popularity exist .
1)have desrving quality n liked by all n mutual respect exists.(exs gulaal show)
2)mostly liked/unliked by all also becmes popular but no respect (best ex talli character in gulaal serial)😆
i think gulaal is already popular in first ne i above desribed quality with respect. thats why this forum here n also the forum is very active comparing than other forums.
coming to TRPS
following the present trend may increase the trp but not guarantee of it. gulaal story is unique not written keeping in mind about trps. cvs knew it too.they just experimented.
so for sake of trps cvs have to follow second one i mentioned above.
so to increse trps just folow others serils thats all
1)send gulaal n kesar city n more romantic scenes daalo 😆
2)memory loss daalo etc... lists goes on wat trps ser doing
3)make replica of topi n claim diff thats all more trps
in one way gulaal is already popular i see no help is needed to increse it popularity.
then trp waala pop chahe to just follow other trp waala cvs just copy paste 😆

It is sad that I took an interest in this show when it is nearing its fag end. Last week I was flipping through channels having nothing better to watch at 9.00 pm and came across this show I was intrigued by the captivating acting by the leads. I was curious to know the story and spent the entire weekend trying to catch up in youtube. Beside the excellent acting of nearly the entire cast, especially Neil and Manasi, what I found great about this show is that it has an unusual story line which is both gripping as well as well narrated. The dialogues, especially in the crucial scenes are apt and hard hitting. The complexity of the characters is well explored. My favourite is Kesar. The cinematography and direction is exceptional.

Despite so many things going for it then why did the show not garner the trps it should have? I think it is because it is a class serial more than a mass serial, despite its rural setting. The storyline is unconventional and in a way questions the ancient customs. It is not the typical show which can be categorised in any slot such as saas-bahu show or romantic comedy or plain comedy show. In the short span it has been on, it has explored a plethora of subjects. As someone pointed out, it started off as a girl who had magical powers to find water. It shifted to a love story and later to widow remarriage between an adult and a child. It shifted gears again when that adult tried to get her own 'husband' married to a girl of his age. Unfortunately for her the guy had fallen for her and refused to fulfill a promise she made without his consent.

It is precariously poised now where it can go any way. Will she finally accept the man she chose as her husband when he was still a boy (in order to protect him) or will she remain faithful to her dead husband? Will this story have a good ending or a sad ending? The curiosity element has been retained throughout the show and is perhaps at its peak. It is sad that people who have stuck to this good show for so long are now being faced with the possibility of an abrupt ending to this show. Wish I had known about this show earlier so that I could have contributed my little bit to the show's trps.

Maybe the show would not be facing what it does now if more people who are still ignorant of this show had been aware of its sheer brilliance. Somewhere the showmakers and channel failed to promote this show enough. Even the best product needs good marketing to be able to sell. That I guess is the bottom line for the failure of this show to take off as it should have.

@ opti : welcome to Gulaal forum. yes you are right the channel and show makers failed to promote it. I used to read your analysis in Geet forum. You are really good at it. Please contribute to discussions in this forum also. I tell you the characters in this show have so much depth that we can go on doing endless discussion..each scene and dialogue is a revelation and so much intrigued to the whole story. You know, even the first promo had signs of Kesar and Gulaal. So, the plot of the story was never compromised for the sake of TRP. I have never witnessed such character consistency in any other show. Looking forward to more post from you.
