Written Update June 11, 2011

Kesar continues that all that was childhood stuff, now they are grown up, and he stayed away for 10 years, many things change in that time. Talli asks then why has he not changed, he is the same as before, arrogant. Talli continues that Gulaal is right about him. Kesar's head turns suddenly to face her and asks intensely what does Gulaal say. Talli says that Gulaal says that it is very difficult to understand what is in Kesar's mind, what he says is not always what he wants to say, and now she too has started seeing that. (Umm if she has started seeing this now, how can she claim to know Kesar better than him?) Kesar has a thought and looks manipulatively or in a realization at Talli and asks her if she does everything after asking Gulaal for advice, Talli says yes, who can think of her good more than Gulaal. Kesar asks if she sees the dreams that Gulaal shows her, Talli says maybe, she can obey Gulaal's every word blindly, she can never forget everything that Gulaal has done for her, and even the marriage they are talking about today is all because of Gulaal. Kesar smiles forcibly as if yeah right this is all because of Gulaal. He tells her to come with him if her work is done.

They walk towards the house, Talli says can she ask him a question, he responds that her questions are never done. Talli asks if he is happy with the marriage, Kesar's expression is a mixture of sadness and intensity. Talli continues whether he is doing this because Gulaal said something. Kesar says he wants to get married and only to Talli, what can Gulaal say to him. Talli smiles happily. Kesar tells her that he is not like her, he cannot see his dreams from someone else's eyes, he makes decisions about his life on his own. Then he says mischievously that this decision is his alone, dabloo. Talli gets mad and says again dabloo, Kesar says if he doesn't call dabloo dabloo what is he going to say, Phoolan Devi? She says that if he ever calls her dabloo again then... he interrupts and says then what, she will not marry him, she should think hard because she still has time. (Clearly Kesar wants to fulfill Gulaal's promise but force Talli to think beyond Gulaal's forced dreams and hopes, and refuse to marry Kesar). Kesar tells her that if she wants she can refuse to marry, Talli smiles and runs away, Kesar looks behind her. (I think if Kesar confesses his feelings to Talli she will automatically step back, but if he does that Gulaal will feel guilty and never accept Kesar. The only way is for Talli to wake up and say no regardless of Kesar's feelings for Gulaal).

Paan Baa asks Mota Bha where he was. Mota Bha tells her that the world has changed, in his world parents would decide and kids would follow. Paan Baa asks him about Kesar's decision, Mota Bha tells her that he announced his decision but they are under a problem, he went to meet Gulaal's parents but they want to see Kesar and Gulaal together, Mota Bha did not have the courage to tell them that Kesar wants to marry Talli, he doesn't know what to do. Paan Baa tells him that if Kesar wants to marry Talli and Gulaal wants the same... Jamna interrupts that it doesn't matter what the two want. Jamna looks unwell. Jaman says that this marriage cannot happen at any cost. Dushyant interrupts and she asks him not to interfere. Jamna says that just because she did not come out of her room for two days, here they are getting ready for a wedding. Sudha demands why can the marriage not happen, Jamna says that the society they are living in has some rules that they have to follow if they want to live in the society, looks like the family has forgotten that Kesar has a wife named Gulaal. Gulaal comes there and hears this. Jamna continues loudly that in front of the entire village Gulaal and Kesar did deeyarvattu, how can he marry another girl. The camera pans to Gulaal and Sudha, as if they are starting to get a dose of reality. Jamna says that this marriage cannot happen, never ever.

Gulaal tells Jamna that she has never believed in the deeyarvattu which is why nobody in the family believes in it, she took this decision for the good of the family. Gulaal asks Mota Bha and Paan Baa whether they have ever believed in the deeyarvattu. Mota Bha agrees with Gulaal, Sudha supports him and asks Jamna why is she behind Talli's happiness. Jamna says she is not worried about Talli but about society. (Paan Baa needs to speak up that she believes in the deeyarvattu and herself went through this, I don't understand why she is quiet when her expressions clearly indicate that she doesn't like this decision). Jamna says that if the villagers find out about the marriage all of them will continue to join Dushyant's name with Gulaal's, which she is not fine with. Dushyant asks her to be quiet, they cannot force things just due to fear of what people will say, how can they force a deeyarvattu that nobody believes in. Jamna says that no matter what the family thinks, deeyarvattu is valued by the villagers. Mota Bha yells Jamna's name and tells her that he cannot force Gulaal into a relationship that she doesn't believe in. Mota Bha continues that when Gulaal took this decision Kesar was 12 years old, and the marriageable age is already decided in this country, hence from any perspective Kesar and Gulaal cannot be husband wife. Mota Bha leaves, Sudha feels relieved, Paan Baa looks worried as if she has an inkling of the impending disaster but is giving in because of Gulaal and Mota Bha.

Jamna says fine, if they can do what they want then she too has the right to make her own decisions, she will not be a part of this wedding, and gets up to leave. Paan Baa tries to stop her and says that she understands how Jamna must feel about rumors about her son, but her attending Kesar's wedding is as important as Paan Baa's attendance, Kesar comes there and agrees with Paan Baa and tells Jamna that if her Kesar gets married and Jamna is not there to sing and dance how can it be complete, then he looks at Gulaal and asks right Gulaal, Gulaal is surprised and doesn't know what to say. Dushyant tells Jamna that after such a long time there will be happiness in the family, everyone should be a part of it. Kesar agress and says that Dushyant must be even more happy with this marriage, Gulaal has an expression that clearly knows that Kesar is taunting Dushyant. Dushyant says of course how can he not be happy that his Kesar is getting married. Gulaal changes the topic and asks Sudha whether she has called the priest to fix a date. Kesar asks her to pick the first date recommended, Gulaal doesn't look happy.

Gulaal goes to Mota Bha's room, he asks if the talks about Talli and Kesar's marriage are done, Gulaal says it took time but everyone has agreed and is happy with the wedding. Mota Bha asks her if she is happy. Gulaal smiles and says that she is very happy, she wanted this for so long, Kesar will get a good life partner and Talli will remain in their home. (Gulaal's smile here seems so fake as if she is forcing it out, and honestly I feel like giving her two tight slaps. Her smile does not reach her eyes that just feel dead). She tells Mota Bha that Talli lived here like a daughter, now she will live like a daughter-in-law. (OMG, Talli is so immature, she will discuss every single expression and mood of Kesar's with the whole family, there will be no privacy of marriage, and Kesar is such a private person. I hope this marriage doesn't happen). Mota Bha asks Gulaal what about her, what will she live as in the house now. (He hit the nail on the head). He asks her, her smile fades and she says "me", he says that she has made decisions about everyone else's good, now tell him what decision has she made about herself, what is her plan for herself.

Mota Bha tells her that she is more than a daughter, but she cannot spend her entire life as his daughter, she says why not, if he supports her she can spend her entire life as his daughter serving them, she tells him that once Kesar and Talli get married Gulaal will be at the same point where she was a few years ago, there will be many questions, and she pleads with Mota Bha to not ask her to leave the house, this house is everything for her, she has not seen a world outside of the four walls and will not be able to leave. (This is damn awkward. Kesar loves Gulaal, she knows that, he now has to live with his new wife and the woman he loves right there, how can he move on. Clearly Gulaal is ruining everyone's life with this single decision). Mota Bha tells her that she has the most right on the house and nobody will ask her to leave. With Mota Bha around she doesn't need to answer to anyone for her actions, but he will not attend the wedding. Gulaal is shocked and pleads with him to come just for her, he agrees to come just for the circling around the fire and nothing more, she pleads but he refuses.

The priest tells everyone that there is no good day for the next six months. He says there were two days in the month - vad-savitri which has passed, and day after tomorrow. Jamna feels happy. Gulaal says day after tomorrow is good, Jamna asks how will they prepare everything, Sudha supports Gulaal, Paan Baa also disagrees but Gulaal insists, Jamna says that marriage is a not a joke, Gulaal says that she and Sudha will get everything ready. Jamna says that they have nothing to say since Sudha and Gulaal have already planned everything. (Why is Gulaal in such a hurry? Its as if she wants it to happen to soon that she doesn't have time to think and fulfills her promise). The priest says that they will need to do the engagement ceremony the next day.

Poonam Baa comes there and tells them that she has a good news for them. She has found a match for Talli. Gulaal asks what is the need for her to get a match for Talli, Poonam tells her that Talli is grown up and for how long can she live in that house without being related to them. Sudha tells her defiantly that she doesn't need to worry about Talli anymore, Talli is going to become related to the family forever, Talli is getting married to Kesar. Poonam is shocked, she gets up and looks glaringly at Gulaal, Gulaal nods her head in agreement. Paan Baa tells her that she was going to come to her place that day with this news. Poonam tells her to stop, that is why Mota Bha came to her house to discuss Gulaal's future, she tells Paan Baa furiously in tears that this is the prize they have given her daughter for her efforts all these years, that they are marrying her husband to someone else. Gulaal tells her that she tried to explain several times but her mother won't listen, she doesn't see Kesar that way. Poonam is exasperated and yells at Gulaal that she has done enough for the family, this is not her greatness but stupidity, these people are using Gulaal, they know that Gulaal will do anything but everything has a limit, Gulaal asks her to stop. Jamna is happy. Gulaal tells her that she and the family took this decision together and its not appropriate for someone else to say anything. Poonam is shocked and shattered. (Gulaal and the family did not take this decision together, Gulaal alone did. I hate Sudha's expression, the woman cares only about her Talli and she doesn't care two hoots about Gulaal, she will do anything to keep Talli close to the family. Gulaal is nothing but dumb, and Poonam is right, the family is in a way using Gulaal by giving her free rein).

Jamna asks Gulaal if she is calling her mother someone else (outsider). Gulaal says that nobody has a right to say anything. Poonam tells her that no matter what she says, she is her mother and has complete right to say something. She tells Gulaal that the family is using her, and once they have used her completely they will throw her out, this is Gulaal's biggest mistake of her life. Paan Baa tells Poonam why is she saying such things, Gulaal is their daughter. Poonam says scornfully daughter, Gulaal stops her and says that Kesar and Talli are getting married the day after, she would like it if Poonam accepted it and came to give her blessings. Poonam is shocked. (I think Gulaal is rushing this so that there is not enough time for opposition. She also is using the family's support as a shield by saying that the family and she made the decision together, their agreement is strengthening her and making her think that she is right. Poonam is right, it is one thing to say that she is our daughter, but a true mother would be exasperated and think only of her daughter selfishly, like Jamna, instead of giving in to all whims like Mota Bha and Paan Baa do). Sudha is happy. Poonam walks away remorsefully and dejected. (I feel so bad for Poonam). Paan Baa tells Gulaal that she should not have spoken to her mother like that. Gulaal tells her that she knows her mother, she will be fine in some time.(Gulaal not only doesn't value herself, she doesn't value her parents and their opinion either).Gulaal tells Sudha that they should start preparing for the engagement.

Talli gets ready happily and everyone is happy. Talli and Kesar are wearing matching green, Kesar looks handsome. Paan Baa asks Gulaal where Mota Bha is, she asks her not to worry, Mota Bha is unwell in his room and will come in some time. (Gulaal continues to weave the yarn of fantasies and lies). Jamna tells them to start the rituals. Sudha calls Raman to accompany her, Raman refuses. Jamna asks Sudha to not get on Raman's case, and to start.

Kesar goes to make Talli wear the ring when Talli's friends keep pulling her hand back, Kesar's friends say that the girl is not ready, he should find another bride. Kesar looks at Gulaal, Gulaal tells the friends to stop kidding and holds Talli's hand and extends it. Kesar grips Gulaal's hand and doesn't leave it, he tells Paan Baa that he got the wrong hand, now what should he do, Paan Baa asks him to stop playing pranks. Jamna knows that Kesar is playing, and smiles sarcastically saying who knows whether it is the right or wrong hand, Gulaal is embarrassed. Kesar leaves Gulaal's hand but not without his fingers rubbing hers gently as he leaves it and she pulls it away. He puts the ring on Talli's finger and everyone is happy, but his eyes are only on Gulaal and her smiling. Kesar continues looking at Gulaal all the while, she looks at him and smiles, he is smitten but that expression comes with a lot of pain now, as if he is just going through the motions.

Gulaal is in the kitchen, Kesar comes there and looks at her intensely. Gulaal asks what he needs, he says that he is very hungry. She asks him to be patient, the food is just going to get ready outside, he says that when he is happy he feels very hungry. Gulaal gives him a plate of sweets, he asks if she will not feed him. She feeds him a bite and thanks him, he asks why is she thanking him, he is happy today only because of her, she has given him the biggest happiness of his life and he has never been as happy in a long time. (My husband is pitching in saying that he is trying to make her jealous! I find that hard to believe though). She says that she should also apologize for speaking to him like that the day before, but she is very happy that he did not let her talks come in the way of his decision. (This woman is delusional - it is so obvious that he is doing this because of her talks). She says that it feels like after a long time the clouds have sent rain to the parched earth, and in all this Talli is the happiest of all since she has been dreaming about this for years, Kesar in his usual sweet manner asks her what about you. Gulaal says that she is very very happy, Kesar looks at her lovingly seeing her so happy and smiling. She continues that she is very happy that the promise she made is being fulfilled by Kesar.(Gulaal keeps saying that Talli is so happy probably because she is using it to justify the sinking feeling in herself that somewhere this may not be the right decision she thought it would. Why else would she keep reinforcing it).

Kesar gets furious hearing this and his smile vanishes. Gulaal goes to feed him the sweet again, Kesar holds her hand tightly and crushes the sweet, Gulaal is hurting and surprised at this reaction. He tells her that after today she will always think that she wishes she had not made that promise to Talli, he was just waiting to get engaged, now the ruckus (hungama) will start, he is fulfilling her promise just to prove to her that her promise to Talli was so wrong and she made a big mistake, and not only that decision but every single decision she made on behalf of others to date is wrong, she wants to marry Talli for her (Talli's) happiness, has she any clue what her condition is going to be after marriage, he will cause Talli so much pain that whenever Gulaal looks into Talli's eyes she will only see tears, he will make her condition such that Gulaal will wish in every single moment that she should have never married Talli to Kesar. Gulaal is completely shocked. He tells her that Talli's tears will take the form of regret that will shine in Gulaal's eyes (love this dialogue - Talli ki aankhon ke aasoo pachhtava banke teri aankhon mein chamkayenge). He continues that after that, Gulaal will never take decisions about someone else's life. Kesar says this with so much anger, fury, and intensity, and Gulaal is absolutely flabbergasted as to what has she done now, her whole promise and dream is getting completely shattered because Kesar is not molding himself to her whims and fancies. Gulaal nods her head in no and tells him that he is kidding, he says that she is the one who jokes with other's lives, she tells him with determination that he cannot do this, he asks why, who will stop him, you (Gulaal), but with what right, now Gulaal has NO right over him. (The way Kesar says this, as if every stone that she hurled at him by saying that he has no right over her has come out in his words and eyes). He continues that she can no longer interfere in his life. Gulaal is shocked, she softly tells Kesar that he cannot do this, he tells her that she has no idea what he is capable of. He is marrying Talli only to prove to Gulaal that she has ruined his, Talli's, and her own life. He has tears in his eyes, wishes her happy marriage and leaves. Gulaal is shocked and drops the plate of sweets, and flashbacks to Kesar's words.

Precap: Kesar has yellow flour (haldi) on his face and says that he has just come to say that put enough yellow flour on Talli, his wife needs to look very beautiful. He says this standing behind Gulaal with his lips very close to her ear to make sure she hears this, he asks Gulaal whether she understands this clearly. Gulaal turns around and throws the bowl of yellow flour on the ground, everyone is surprised, Gulaal and Kesar's eyes meet and Talli looks at them. (Talli should start sensing something now).
