I am... just in AWE of Neil as an actor. Each emotion of his is so perfect.. I am just so happy that he has found such a fantastic and complex character as Kesar. He is doing a marvelous job. His acting is such that he makes us laugh with joy when he is happy and in the very next second he can throw us into depths of despair at his heartbreak and emotional turmoil. Even in his rudeness to Gulaal one can see the pain in his eyes and language...

In appreciation of Neil are you joking..... this guy is so fabulous anyone who doesnt recognize his talent needs an extra pair of glasses. He is such a gem of a guy and so true... arrey uski acting se hi pata chalta hain woh kitna accha insaan hain. He is a complete package ... what does he lack looks superbly handsome, acting mein toh number one aur dance ke andaaz ...oh Im floored completely. Neil whether he is talking or silent his screen presence is terrific...even the most idiotic scene becomes enjoyable all because of him. I am just so enjoying him as Kesar. Agar mera bas chale toh I would like to see him get more mean and rude with Gulaal.... only for the reson is to see his reaction when he realizes the truth about Gulaal. Believe me when I say it if Neil is cute and has attitude now, just wait till he hits you with his emotional scenes. This guy is a complete charmer, and a wholesome entertainer. kya karoon iska, just cant help loving him.😆

Kesar meeting family
Neil playing Kesar was the best thing to have happened in the show Gulaal. I have watched the earlier Kesar-Gulaal scenes because to understand Kesar's state of mind, it is important.

Neil, Kesar not once shifting his gaze, that piercing look at Gulaal, said it all.The scene where Kesar turned over and stopped by to look at Gulaal was indeed a highly charged moment. To Kesar, Gulaal has been his world especially after Vasant. There was this tranquillity in his eyes of that of peace having finally ended the 8 year longing to meet her. His feelings for her is complex. Probably he has not yet analysed and understood his feelings and interpreted in the Pati-Patni kind, but he adores her a lot. But the emotion quickly changes when he is not able to forget about the truth he learnt that Gulaal had long known about Dushyant and still not reacted the way he would have expected her to. More so he has this feeling that she insisted that he be sent to boarding school when he was so unwilling.

That "tum jhooti, tere man me paap" dialogue was the best from Kesar. Gulaal is taken aback by his attitude but confident that coin toss will be in her favor. Kesar is no more the kid who will just listen to her. Actually this was how it was because I remember that scene where Kesar steps into Vasant's mojdi just because he had the "go ahead, do it" signal from Gulaal. He did hurt her and both knew it as well. Gulaal covered her hurt by ignoring his comment and advising relationships are not based on a coin's toss and he covered it up by giving her that mischievous smile.

With Talli, he had total fun in scaring her. The actor playing Talli is cute enough and thats it as of now. Her role is to just smile and as others have mentioned her; to keep feeling shy. His "want it, wear it, if not get lost" attitude was cool. That reaction of Gulaal to Jamna kaaki's "pati-patni" comment was superb.

When he reminisces his childhood, he has two people in his lives. Vasant Ba who is no more because of Dushyant and Gulaal who was so sweet but now seems to have forgiven the guy who killed her husband. What he remembers about Gulaal is that she had been there for him to teach him the importance of bathing to keep himself clean, to have a timetable to stick to the schedule to arrive at his goal and so on. To Kesar, as yet his relationship with Gulaal is not defined. He loves her, he does respect her in a way by being firm to achieve his goal, he cant forget what he has learnt, he is confused why she has forgiven Dushyant, he is angry at her for forcing him to boarding school. Kesar's emotions are varied. What we name it as mixed feelings.

Superb bollywood style filmy entry, an emotional and joyful meeting with family, highly anticipated emotionally charged meeting with Gulaal, friendly with Talli and suppressed and contained fiery anger at Dushyant. Neil, just superb. Looking forward to more of you in action as Kesar. All the very best.

Kesar's attitude with Gulaal and Talli

The scene starting with Gulaal:

The emotions were pitch perfect when he there is this hurried retrieval of those letters since he does not want her to know about his feelings. Then there was this eagerness and inquisitiveness to know if she missed him. Actually I must say I looked at Gulaal's reaction more than that of Kesar when she hides her tears and denies having missed him because he never reciprocated her concern. Manasi and Neil where perfect here when Gulaal turned away from him to hide her tears whereas there was this tenderness in Kesar when he heard her reply because obviously he knew she was telling lies.
There is this sudden shift of emotion from that tenderness to open revolt when he asks why she insists in choosing that shade of dress. The open revolt quickly shifts to anger coupled with pain and hurt when she mentions Vasant would remind her of her duty. Probably that hurt comes from the feeling that she does care just out of duty and the pain comes from the fact that she has forgiven that Dushyant and is confused of Durgesh's statement about Kesar. The rage and fury of these events makes him burn the dress she has chosen. Basically he is doubting why Gulaal has forgiven Dushyant which comes from the seeds of doubt sown by Durgesh's statement. Any person would doubt why Gulaal has forgiven Dushyant who has killed her husband.

The continuation scene with Gulaal

Kesar's satisfaction of not wearing what Gulaal has chosen was evident when he turned up in red just to tell her so. When she questions, he hurts her more by saying he is no more the kid who held her fingers and danced to her tunes. Apart from that it was Kesar's way of taking out his frustration by reminding her that he was on his own all these years in the boarding school that she forced him into. I really smiled when Neil said that statement...Ab mai baccha nahi raha'

Scene with Talli

The scene where she is practically manhandled for probing into his room was superb. She was literally grabbed by her arm, hurting her. The intensity of anger was so great and there is this finality when he says she is not supposed to interfere in his affairs. That was indeed a quick change of emotion feeling sorry for being rude, realising that and trying to bring a smile back on her face.Kesar's attitude was cool in that in a way he was openly telling Talli he is not interested in such sweettalks and that he was getting annoyed. Well we all are too, so we understand Kesar's stand. I think I shall still reserve my comments about the actor playing Talli. Probably she is new and might take a lot longer to learn to emote.

Scene with Gulaal being seated for the function

Kesar does get affected by Gulaal's touch. Gulaal still treats him like a little child she had once known him to be. But to Kesar, its different. Actually can't really fathom Kesar's feelings at this juncture. But this was evident even when she caressed him as she used to. He looks at her hands running down his shoulder. Especially in the scene where Kesar's actual wife has to be seated next to him, he is waiting for her reaction to that Panditji's comment. According to Gulaal, she is bound to the custom namesake and is hesitant to perform a ritual as "his wife". But her touch does affect him that he slowly pulls his hand away from her. Even Gulaal has noticed his reaction to her touch.

An added appreciation is about the scene where Kesar gifts the child and when he moves across to receive the gift from Talli. Kesar's affectionate and gentle caress on the child's face may be a simple reaction, but worth watching.

Neil, way to go!!!

The Motorbike gift/Talli

Excitement of a little child seeing the gift was so sweet
The annoyance showed in the comment "three people cant ride" It must have been a taunt to have made Talli sit along with them for the ritual.
Total fun and excitement in making Talli run behind but she did evoke a sympathy from me.
What an attitude saying I have more important things to do. Did he ride away "Talli ke aashaon me mitti milake?"
The streak of childishness while picking Munimji's glasses turns so quickly to seriousness while answering Dushyant
The genuine sorry seeing Talli right where he had left her and he knew well how to persuade her
The "I dont care" attitude,Iam in no mood for sermons when Gulaal questions their irresponsibility.

Scene with Gulaal

That was a beautiful scene with Gulaal at the dinner table.
He is bent upon irritating Gulaal and show his displeasure by hinting at Talli to serve the food and also getting more cordial with her by sharing the plate. Again that casual "What was wrong in what I said?" reaction to Talli's remark that he is hurting her all the while.
But I love that scene where Neil portrayed Kesar's hurt, pain, apology and remorse when he learnt that Gulaal had not yet eaten while he and Talli had ignored her that Kesar quickly leaves the room.

Scene with Dushyant

This was one of the best scenes of Neil till now in Gulaal.
The no reaction as no answer to Dushyant's query
His eyes getting suddenly moist when Dushyant reminds past events
The expressions of softness and tenderness with a sense of loss of someone close when he mentions Gulaal
The softening down or mellowing down as Dushynt holds him that changes to sarcasm when he says he knows that Dushyant loves him equally well how he loved Vasant.
The continuity of that scene showed Kesar seeking an immediate answer from him, then and there to all the questions that has been eating him away for years
The resentment showed as he blamed loneliness and longingness for love having been sent so far away as the reason for his behavior.

This scene was superbly shot where grown up Kesar's reflection superimposed on the young Kesar's image on the photograph. A beautiful symbolism showing us viewers that this Kesar is nothing but a current reflection of the young Kesar of the past. But the two people who were his world are no longer with him. Vasant had been distanced from him by fate while he has distanced himself from Gulaal. The reason for the break-up of that sweet bonding between Vasant-Gulaal-Kesar is Dushyant whose reflection is seen at a distance. Whoever has decided to shoot this scene this way, I really appreciate them.
The highlight of this scene is the dialogue"Insaan ko badalna hai,toh pal bhar me badal sakta hai varna barson lag jaate hain". Here Dushyant is talking about himself and requesting Kesar to change.

Kesar contemplating over the discussion interprets the same statement differently. Here he talks about Gulaal who he feels has changed drastically and no more the Gulaal who loved him dearly. He despises that change in her since he has always felt the warmth in her behavior towards him.

Kesar alone in the room

This was another lovely scene with Kesar talking out loud to himself. The way it was shot and the way they showed Kesar from a distance and later zooming in on Neil's expressions were superb. Kesar did win utmost sympathies here for all the loneliness, sadness, emptiness, longingness and solitude he had experienced over the years. In the close-up scene we could see all the bottledup emotions of raw anger, pain, hurt coming out as tears reminiscing the truth he had learnt, his claim to his right to know the truth and the main issue that is bothering him is why Gulaal kept the truth. Kesar knows that Vasant had been Gulaal's world..Then WHY did she do this? He has cherished those letters from Gulaal advising him to grow up to be a man to shoulder responsibilities.Gulaal here was talking about hoping Kesar would soon take up responsibilities so that she be relinquished from her duties and mainly to fill Kesar's life with happiness.Manasi was pretty convincing in the emotional scenes without overdoing it and definitely not underperforming. She is good.

Wake-up scene was natural.
Continuation scene with Gulaal

This was lovely. Starts with Kesar's attempt to refuse milk to prove he is grown up, has no time for advises as he has heard enough way back in school and insisting on his decision to drink Chai. I laughed when Gulaal tells him.."Badti umar mei doodh ki zaroorat hoti hai". I feel Gulaal still finds him in growing years. She looked cute when she says 'Give me your coin,I shall give it back and "seedha hua toh doodh".He gets cornered by Gulaal using his own CoinToss tactics. Here again there was this streak of innocence when he is inquisitive to know the cointoss verdict. In fact both their reactions are good as she sees the result first and he looks the younger Kesar when he slowly smiles at her smartness leaving him with no choice and she also checks on him if he did drink that milk. Must say Neil has worked really hard to give us glimpses of the young Kesar.

Dinner table scene

Poor Gulaal makes sure to tell him that she did not cook any of the food as he had shown his resentment earlier.Embarrasment written clear on Gulaal's face for the Pati-Patni comment and her reluctance to perform another ritual as his wife. Nice to see Kesar looking for her reaction to that statement.

Kesar amazed seeing Gulaal

Catching a glimpse of Gulaal combing her hair, Kesar is just amazed to see her. The initial signs of attraction is clear in Kesar's eyes. Though he remembers his childhood events with Gulaal, its those first signs of attraction to her whom he has always loved in some way. As a grown up his understanding of people's comment relating them as Pati-Patni,etc does have its own effect. The look of amazement was longlived (as he hardly payed attention to Talli) for the woman who has been a big influence in his life.
How Gulaal currently/or permanently finds him as is a different story. Actually if you dont take the CVs on facevalue, people like me may then be able to accept Gulaal also developing feelings for Kesar. The story might have been in those pure soulmate theory earlier, but whats important now is the success of the show based on twist in story. Well I need to forget what were Gulaal and Kesar's relationship before. This would lift the burden off my shoulder. Iam here watching the show for Neil's performance.

Kesar's feelings when Gulaal is around is a mix of emotions of like, love, admiration, possesiveness, sense of loss of 8 years and the longingness to be around the woman he wants to hate each time he remembers Vasant's death but loves her undeniably beyond himself. Neil, Awesome work. Immensely enjoying these layers of Kesar's emotions.

Today's episode was again such a fantastic performance by Neil. His anger anfd frustration at Gulaal almost hurting her and then his remorse in the kitchen, recounting her words. The scene with Paanba one of the most excellent scenes I have ever seen between a mother and son. Neil you are my guy man...so terrific in each and every scene. I am so enjoying watching you on Television, so great to see you back.
