So i had this thought inspired by another post i read.

If there are any writers/media people in the forum, please do participate.

Why does ITV not make too many finite dramas with seasons like in the west.

Why cant they think of an engaging, tightly knit plot with logic, research, good production value in terms of design/costumes/etc etc and most importantly an engaging plot.

I dont think we as audience would have a problem with a 100-200 episode waala tight knit show.

Why does itv have this "kuch bhi chalta hai" vaala attitude.

I know several shows like naagin, balh, ekdv, saathiya, etc etc have had season 2s and 3s etc etc but those are often completely different shows that just hinge on the popular name of the show to attract attention.

Maybe krpkab had legit continuity in characters atleast but i didn't watch that show fully so cant speak about it...

But whats the problem with finite dramas?

Give a good plot, something memorable, and let actors also find other new exciting projects. Keep everyone on their toes.

What's the fulfillment they all get in making an illogical pathetic plot full of "twists" that make ZERO sense.

The itv plots are not ablut creative liberty but doing some f**kall drama

Whats itv ka larger problem.

Why this obsession with running for years and years?!

I loved Pakistani dramas short n sweet with good MSG they end the shows.

Here long will go burai ki Jeet achai ki har yeh dikha te hai aur toh aur logic toh dur tak pata nahi hota na sar milta hai na pair milte hai khichdi pakti hai woh bhi ajeeb si hoti hai.

Yaha FL sab kuch saho attempt to rape saas ka zulum nanad ki plotting against bhabhi, pati ki ex lover story this all old n fed-up

2020 ka new love story bhabhi devar ko pane ke hazaar tarike bas bhabhi ko devar ho a hai kise bhi.

Not a single forum of shows which i watch where i haven't made a comment about this same.

I don't understand why itv doesn't make shows like foreign with limited episodes and multiple seasons. Even their current shows which they keep streching like a rubber can be divided into limited episodes series. If we take example of ghum then when sairat got married could be the end of first season then them coming to chavan niwas and facing opposition from in laws while getting to know each other could have been second season and so on.

Itv is still afraid of taking risk here and trying out new things and concepts. When daily soap was not a thing that time also there were serials which used to come once or twice a week. And they were great content wise. But once ekta maiyya made grand entry with her never ending daily soaps then itv changed forever. Every channel wanted their own never ending saga in competition.

I remember once i was seeing interview of dilip joshi (jethalal gada from tarak mehta ka ulta chasma) he was asked that show had really good humor for the first 50-60 episodes but then what happened....why it has become low quality now and he honestly answered that at first the teams had enough time so they had ready few episodes but then pressure of giving continuous episodes because of daily soap concept is taking toll on writers/creatives. At times they come for shoot and they dont even know what scene they will be shooting because script is not ready. Scene is written on the spot. When such thing is done then you can imagine the quality of their writing.

This same is happening with every daily soap. Many actors have come out and commented on this that there is no script, screenplay concept in itv. Actors are denied if they ask for same. These big production houses rules the itv. They dont give shit about quality. They have made their career through these baseless shows and they dont want to change it ever.

From my understanding, this is probably a practical issue with the kind of system ITV has set in... And if this needs to be done.. it would need an overhaul of the entire system.

Dhadkan was the one with finite episodes. Show was good. Only saw few initial episodes. But that didn't work as much as it should have. Also might be because of the story. It's a proper medical drama with lot of jargon. Might not be palatable to the typical audience accustomed to romance and saas bahu drama.

The other problem might be dates and availability.

KTBM on Alt Balaji is a really interesting story. Has a crackling chemistry in form of RK and ST. It has the potential to run on regular TV with the pairing like that. Content will have to be regulated though as it doesn't follow the rules laid for TV... But shows like that can run.

Season 3 ended on a cliffhanger before pandemic and now fans like me are waiting since what seems like an eternity for closure 😭. Looks like it's scrapped.

Point being it is a good story, tight and well done. If stories like that with niche actors are available, i don't think why finite shows won't work.

Another EK show i watched was KKHH... That too was a nice plot and could have worked post 9.30 slot.

I watch pakistani drama's there is a message in every show..

but itv drama's are always kitchen politics n saas bahu drama..

or else watch English they have season's that you can wait for and every new episode's are amazing..

New trend is Devar n Bhabhi love story...

Most of the TV shows are now a days ema glorification ..if we notice over all viewership for television is low.. Probably we have other choice in OTT platforms which deliver better content..

There are many pests like virat and vanraj in our society but Ghum makers have normalised shamelessly all virat's actions..

Television will stop telecasting such content once we stop watching them...i remember during my childhood TV severed much better stories..They it has turned into like this??

They’re still living in their own delusional mind where only aunties watch ITV and they want never ending dramas....!! If a channel starts a finite series with good storyline then some other channel will put more drama and regressive shit in their shows...and the show will end before its time...this is like tom n jerry.. never ending... sitara pulled off many finite shows with progressive content like “Gulmohar Grand, Dil Sambhal Ja zara, Namkaran, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai..etc etc”

even in 2015 sony launched “Reporters“ starring Rajeev Khandelwal and Kritika Kamra, however, it was also pulled off under 133 episodes stating “finite series and low trp” my guess low TRP coz it had a good story line with no saas bahu drama!

Reporters was gold❤️

I am still waiting for season 2🥱

Sony has given many good tv shows with limited episodes. But the problem is with channel not the shows. Sony doesn't spend a penny on the promotion of its own show. I started hating the channel when they pulled off their hit shows like patiala babes and beyhadh due to covid break. Such stupid channel it is.

Reporters was good.

Jassi jaisi koi nahin was good as well, but it was stretched a bit too much, but overall good!

Aahat was good at least season 4, which ran in 2009-10

shaadi mubarak of sitara was also pulled-off due to covid break as well.
