Disclaimer: not comparing sai and rinku here. Rinku has a clear medical condition and a deeper trauma. I am just comparing the psychology in general.
Happened to see Atrangi re today and I liked it for several reasons but the main point I liked is how a trauma changes the perspective of people. So much so that it creates your own set of beliefs on which you base your judgement on!
Strangely I related this to sai today. What she faced immediately after the death of her father is fear and trauma. When she thought she found a person she can trust, she faced with dilemnas and confusion constantly in the form of Pakhi. To avoid another heartbreak she found comfort in ‘deal’ word. Whenever virat Distances her, she found more closer to deal. Whenever he showered her with love, she forgets it. Just like rinku finds sajjad, under distress or confusion.
What rinku and sai needs is unconditional love! Just like a father’s love. The love which is heroic, possessive but not judgemental. Once you get that kind of love, there is no fear of mistakes or shame because you know the other person will understand you. Virat’s love is heroic and possessive. But not yet understanding. From her point of view. He needs to see Pakhi first from her point of view, then he will understand why sai is insecure. Unless he understands her fears, he can’t understand her comfort with deal word. He has to be unconditional in love for Sai for her to open up to him.
ps: in the last climax scene of Atrangi re, I saw the deal disappear, and sai and virat embracing each other. It is very coincidental but Anand L Rai brought it out much more clearer in more beautiful way.
