Glorifying Villians

The tight rope the makers of Ghulam must keep in mind...not to make the villaneous acts overshadowed by putting the anti-hero/ Villains in likeable light. They are only acceptable in dramas not reality. The clear cut demarcation must be there for there to be no confusion in regards to what is totally unacceptable...

To me the acts towards the females in the drama were extreme to the extent of being abhorrent...very disturbing😒
For this one has to admire the portrayal by Vikaas Mankatia, actor playing father and Zahida mam for bringing it alive in a big way that makes impact...but that's the extent I am willing to go...
I just cannot think of Veer, Bheema and Gulguli...the characters in any other light but as downright disturbing. There is no sign anywhere of redemption as yet. The atrocities towards females are too horrifying for me to like these characters even a little...

Rangeela though having done a grave injustice to a simple girl to no fault of hers ...does show signs of fleeting disturbance of his Ghulam psyche that has been conditioned over the years by his masters. We have also seen different person when he acts and decides on his own and not under orders...as seen in his responses to children, giving food to hungry , helping Shivani before duties of Ghulam took over. He shows glimpses of his humane side. That will be his redemption and his saving. Rangeela right now is a person subjugated, bonded, deprived of human dignity and extension of his masters. The only thing that can be admired in his Ghulam mentality is his loyalty.
Param Singh has done wonders in portraying all that in these episodes.

Herein lies the fascination and the reason for my watching this drama...
1: To see the good, right, justice and survival of human dignity prevail over extreme atrocities, injustices like shown in the drama. Triumph of good over unadulterated, unimaginable evil.
2: Hoping to see the inner strengths within the characters rise to the fore when amidst such conditions and environment...enough to make a stand and bring about the change for better in the people and their lives...I guess the two doing this will be Rangeela and Shivani...being the two protagonists in the drama.

Thank you for bearing with my viewpoint...

I don't think there will be any redemption for most of characters..Mainly that dad, mom of veer, maldawali. Rangeela will have change of heart and I want to see a hardened greyish Shivani who tries to rebel in her small ways. If in future polcegets involved to destroy the thakurs I want her to help as well. Redemption won't happens simply because the prejudice and misogyny is very deep rooted, it's drilled into their heart and head since birth. No compassion for a fellow human being, no care for a girl whom they kidnapped then treat like trash. It's like their second skin, how do you shed off your skin? Did you watch Nh10? The old lady who killed her daughter cause she married a different caste wala guy? She said Jo karna tha, so kiya. It didn't matter she was her own daughter, that she's woman herself. This kind of behavior you don't change, can't change sadly.

I don't think the creators trying to show a division between good or bad. From our civilized pov they are bad, think from their sides, a culture which is been going on for decades, generation, they don't know anything beyond it. Is it wrong, hel yes, but they don't know anything else. Now we are feeling gross, maybe tomorrow there will be another shade when veer will soften towards shivani, it won't be cause they are trying to glorify his villainy acts. It will be cause it's a growth of character. The biggest redemption will be for veer to free Rangeela and Shivani from that hell hole, cause he's only person who can.

I tend to rent alot, apologies if some things don't make sense😆

Well written. The atrocities shown r somewhat hard to digest. But I feel reality is always harsh. May be such things happen which we even could not imagine. . I was shocked seeing how that Rashmi got kidnapped, tortured and now married to that veer's brother.
Very disturbing ...
But good and bad exists everywhere. So hoping to see the other side.
I am having high expectations on Ghulam so let's see how will this go.
Param Singh and Vikas r just awesome as rangeela and veer.

Ur post was really nice.
The show Ghulaam has been made to show people the crimes that happen in reality across India. I don't think there is any redemption that is gonna be shown here. Though I would want Veer and Rangeela to die together

One thing is I m sure neither rangeela nor shivani will die till end and if die will be back next thing is one thing is which panditji told and that's the shivani dies it will be end of veer and that means without a doubt rangeela will kil him or make him kill by others

Love how you put things!
I agree that there will not be redemption for all but I expect some extent of realization on their part by some of them or even a sliver of regret by others. As you said there behaviour is too deep rooted to change...unfortunately. "They don't know anything else"...
No have not seen that but yes so called honor killings are rampant among educated people too...unbelievable in this day and age.

I don't know where the creators are headed but I salute them for bringing this heigenous aspect in our societies. Being an idealist ...I do expect some to change for better and end up in a better place. An example needs to be set...Hope needs to be in place.

I know the creators don't want to glorify but what troubles me a little is when the abhorrent acts shown are not condemned but overshadowed by the superficial things. For me the beauty and the strength of this drama is in the excellent acting of this cast in bringing the characters and issues alive and thus making the story gripping and thought provoking.

For me ...I am willing to wait and see the stories of Rangeela, Shivani, Veer and the rest...all intertwined with each other...unfold! It's fascinating to watch and I am in awe of the performances and the boldness of creators in bringing it for us.

Lastly, thank you for your "rant" ...that I enjoyed! It gave food for my soul😃
In fact, I don't have enough command over the language to express my feelings well. The thought really worries me to see my written words come out differently than I meant them to. For that I apologize. It's just that I was a little shaken by the atrocities done to the females in the show and to the extent a person is treated in the name of Ghulam.
Want to see the mistreated become stronger and the person they were meant to be..

na na you put words just fine. You want to see them paying cause they should not get away after all the things they did. Same here, when that officer came to rescue Rashmi I was hooting and clapping. I wanted a bullet inside veer😆😆 but I also know this is not traditional right or wrong. It's not an evil you can kill. It's deep rooted second class citizen like treatment of women by a patriarchal society. You can't eliminate these people and hope it will be gone. I don't think even education can eradicate it. It's drilled into their psyche. Maybe shivani's soft heart will melt them. Maybe rangeela's change eill change something in them. It's the only think I hope, after all hope is all we have. St is good with redemption story.
Same here. In this part of world (more than the rest of world) crime against women are alarming. It's no fun to watch a show which shows exactly what goes on in dark parts of some states which are notorious for crime against women (female foeticide, rape, gang rape, murder, child marriage). So kudos to the PH for picking such a tough subject and so far not shying awy from showing the cruelty. Go high or go home right? No hanging in mid👏 Superficial stuff, there will be. After all it's a show which needs high trp. It will be maddening at times, illogical. Things will be brushed under carpet. Bit it will be a roller coaster ride.

I agree. Like you am loving the show and have high expectations too. Cannot wait to see the development of the characters, their struggles within themselves and around them
Yes, it's because of superb performances of well cast drama that makes Ghulaam so good to watch.
Hats off to Param, Vikkaas, Niti , Zahida maam, Sarika, Reedhee and actor playing Bheema Choudhry
