Part 55
If she takes incorrect stand... Then... Wouldn't the whole responsibility fall on her?
As it is Maan's family and so many people in his circle look down on her and call her names behind her back
If she makes a big mistake here... God knows what all they would say next.
More importantly what would Maan say?
Geet clearly understood that she got the power by default. Not because Maan wanted her to have it.
Would he also believe that she is doing all this for his power and money…that she is just a gold digger?
Geet has a sick feeling at the bottom of her stomach.
After refusing the assistant and the lawyer, Geet again receives a phone call from her in-laws.
This time the mother-in-law tells her that they have confirmed he matters. It's fine, Geet doesn't need to do anything. She also shouldn't talk to the assistant and get influenced by him.
Then the father in law starts telling her how big a deal it was quoting big numbers of profit, etc ,etc.
Geet felt panicked again.
Was the lawyer right? Her not doing anything is same as helping the other side.
Feeling shaky, she tries giving Maan a call.
Of course, it got automated reply that the number was out of network.
She opens up their chat history... reading thorough the silliness... searching for any clues he might have dropped.
There were. None
But these people won't let her be!
She felt even worse after looking at it...
After this disaster... will Maan ever light heartedly banter with her like this?
She suddenly focuses on the last chat.
He had said that if she had trouble to contact the assistant or then she could contact his friend.
He had shared the friend’s contact number too.
2out 3 people had already given their opinion.
Geet ponders over the whole situation and grows more and more anxious.
Ultimately, she decides to take the plunge and call the third person too.
If all 3 say same thing she will maybe do as they suggest
Geet calls the friend.
Maan's friend was happy to receive her call.
He listened to the entire situation and gives her his honest opinion.
He wasn't part of Maan's company, so his opinion was much more impartial.
He tells Geet that
F- Whatever assistant and lawyer are suggesting is true, but also not entirely correct. Allowing the family members to jump around and wreak havoc is definitely a bad idea. But due to internal leaks and so many people creating trouble and giving false/inflated budgets. Creating the bid in such situation also isn't ideal ... and allowing assistant to do what he wants may not mean big profits...but right now it is about making best of the bad situation.
G- If Maan was here what would he do?
F - That question is irrelevant. if he was here. such situation wouldn't arise. and even if there is something similar, still people wouldn't be selfishly trying to increase their personal profits.
G- I see. Thank you for the honest advice.
F - So what have you decided to do?
G - I am not sure yet. I still have 1 more day. There is no way that Maan will return sooner, is there?
F- I don’t think so….no
She thanks the friend again and promises to send him a thankyou gift hamper.
She starts pondering over what to do and asks the Assistant to send her summarized overview and reports of the whole situation.
She stays up whole night pouring over the documents.
Although she didn’t go into each and every detail. But right now, this project seemed like a hot potato.
It seemed like they were damned if they went along with Assistant's suggestion and damned if they didn’t.
She goes to the Company office next day.
Firstly, to avoid the parents if they came over to her place; secondly to discuss more details with the Assistant.
She looks at the weary assistant who had deep dark circles under his eyes. His whole demeanor looked wilted and bruised.
They sat inside Maan's office, and she notices the cookie box she had sent, placed at front and center of the desk.
No one who enters the office can miss it.
She opens up the box. There were still few pieces inside.
She takes one out and offers it to the assistant, who looked near tears.
After that both go over the details.
In the afternoon, they call over the lawyer and the friend to have lunch together and discuss the work.
Geet puts forth a daring idea to handle the situation.
At first the three disagreed.
But when she gives her reasoning, they slowly accept her logic and thinking at the available options... it did look like her plan was the best.
Once the plan is finalized, the 4 of them work to iron out the details and implement it.
Geet knows she will face harsh criticism and pushback in tomorrow's meeting.
And if put to vote, her plan will definitely be rejected and again things will be delayed.
She thinks that to Maan... this is still just money. And he shouldn’t get too angry with her... hopefully...
If her plan does leads to loss... worst come to worst, she will help Maan earn it back.
In her heart she feels that...it’s much better to face Maan than face these duplicitous, smooth-talking people...
Having signed the documents and already implemented the plan, she felt much more relaxed.
She gets ready to attend the next day’s meeting full of confidence.
She wears a business power suite to fit in and appear more confident.
She even had a script prepared and practiced her speech the whole night.
Although it wasn't her company or her job to confront these board members. She had looked at the pitiful Assistant and thought that she should help out.
After all she hadn’t forgotten long back when the Assistant had called her and covertly asked to send gift to Maan…
He had always tried to help matters between her and Maan; and now if she can help ease a bit of his burden she should.
Plus, it didn’t matter if she became the bad guy. She won’t be confronting these people ever again.
When all the members for the meeting had arrived at the boardroom.
Geet walked in last; followed by the Assisstant.
Even the assistant regained his lively and confident air in Madam's backing and presence
