Sorry for the delay. The weather here has gone bad and the Network was down at the first sight of trouble 🤔
PMs won't be possible today. I have been trying to update since 7 and nothing is happening. Will send PMs later on.
Here we go...
"Geet, give this car keys to Arjun. He dropped it near the stairs", Anika found a silly excuse to start the conversation with Geet.
"Wont you give it to him? Are you two fighting?" Geet was worried.
"No, I can but he is busy with your dadho and Yash uncle.", she sighed in relief.
Geet nodded and kept the key.
"So? What do you think about Dev?", Anika inquired as Geet was leaving to her bedroom after dinner.
She munched on an apple and replied non-chalantly, "mmm he is fine!"
Fine wasn't he, she thought to herself. Dev was good, adorable like that favorite cousin in the family with whom everyone loved to hang out with.
Anika probbed, "fine?"
Geet shrugged "yep!"
Anika asked cautiously, "Does that mean you are ok about getting engaged?"
Geet was so restless checking the time and looking at her phone that she didn't even listen to Anika, "yeah bhabhi! I'm ok so far!"
She ran upstairs. Her mind was racing. She had a plan in mind. She would wait till everyone got to bed and sneak out. That sounds about it. Dev had decided the time to be 11pm. No one would notice if they left by then, take a dip in the lake and would come back by 3 in the morning. Easy and foolproof or so they thought. The talks after dinner itself extended till 10:30. There was no way people were going back to bed by 11pm!
Yash and Rana were discussing business over a drink. Dev was compelled to join them. Dadima was on phone with her eldest grandson urging him to come on time.
"Maan, don't you dare cancel on me", she yelled over phone as Geet quietly slipped into her room.
Arjun was dragging Anika to God knows where. There was no time to give the key now. May be in the morning.
Geet took her bathing suit and slipped it under her black kurti. She had a grey coat on with a designer scarf just to keep her warm from the desert wind at night. She locked the door from inside and jumped out of the window to the sunshade. Her idea was to go upto the terrace. And take the ladder that was attached to the big water tank. No one would notice her in the dark. Thankfully this was not the 19th century where the Khuranas had guards at watch towers. That was the only way to spot her. As she enjoyed the cool breeze up in the terrace Geet heard voices. She hid behind the tank. Geet shook her head as she heard Arjun and Anika who apparently came upstairs to spend some time together in private. Her romantic bhai and bhabhi, the love birds!
Would she and Dev be like that someday? She didn't know. Dev was adorable and fun to spend time with. But would she ever love him enough to spend a lifetime with him? She didn't know. She tried to understand what she felt for him? Nothing came to her mind. It was blank. Her hand was about to slip and that brought her back to her senses. Right now, all she cared about was her dare with Dev. She quickly found the wooden ladder attached to the age old water tank and found her way downstairs.
Geet ran outside the gates of the haweli. Despite the warm clothes, she felt the chill. She looked around at the spot not too far away from the garage where Dev said he would be. She couldn't spot his Jaguar as well. Did he leave already? She checked the time. It was half past eleven.
"Arghhh...nooo! that idiot must have left me behind to prove me wrong!"
She stomped her foot. Suddenly the keys fell on the ground. Of course, Arjun's car! SHe could drive that one. There was no way she was going back after all these efforts.
"Here I come! Dev Khurana", she revved the engine and left keeping the lights dim so that no one saw her.
Back in the haweli Dev had some how managed to wiggle out of the conversation with Rana and Yash when dadi asked him to go the nearby town to buy some special sweets for the ceremony next day. Dev had no option but to obey her. He tried calling Geet but her phone was switched off. Dev just had to convince himself that she would back out once she saw he was not there.
Geet reached the end of the muddy way. The wind was strong that she clutched her coat tightly. There was no sign of Dev. She found the trees that she had marked in anger this afternoon but that was not necessary. There was a blazing blue light coming from the spot where the lake was. She stopped in her tracks as she saw the glorified mysterious centre glowing in the full moonlight. The centre itself had a wave, a swirl of water that was contained to it. She could see that in the glow. It wasn't the dare that motivated her to go into the lake but her inquisitive mind. She took off her clothes and left it on a dry stone. In that radiant moolight, Geet walked into the water in that red bathing suit. Her eyes were glued to the glow as she took butterfly strokes and despite herself moved towards the centre. It was as if the water was drawing her towards it. Her feet danced rhythmically in the water towards the centre. For a moment, she balanced herself on the centre and smiled victoriously looking at the moonlight. She remembered she needed proof to show Dev but her cell phone was inside her coat. She decided to go back but as soon as she started swimming outside the circle, Geet felt a pull on her legs. Her feet struggled to get out of it but the whirl inside the water became a strong current and Geet felt herself drowning inside the water. She fought with her slender hands and legs but in vain. The water had a mind of its own. The moon light started fading from her sight. She could feel herself swirling in the darkness without any control. Geet realised she was inside the current now. Her body couldn't hold the fight anymore and she swirled with the current. Eventually she reached the centre of the current, deep inside the lake, a ripple passed through her body. She could feel her clothes tearing down. The cold water englufed her now naked body with such force that it ached every single muscle of hers. Geet shrieked loudly without able to hold the excruciating pain. She was being flipped over by the sharp icy water. May be, her body was going to be ripped like her fabric. All she could think was about her family. Her dadho, Arjun, Anika, the kids, NT and that was it, her world. "I love you all", she mumbled and gave up waiting to be ripped apart.
The next moment she felt the current hoisting her up in the air. Geet flew upwards outside the water, the cold air hitting her naked body and then gravity called her back and she fell to the surface of the water. Geet was tired. She couldn't swim. She tried moving her hands and legs but couldn't. Her body had given up and it wont fight after that agony she went through. She struggled but felt her weight going down into the water until she felt the two strong hands encircling around her body and lifting her up the water. In that moonlit sky she saw them eyes, dark and deep like the current she fell into, boring into her. It was as if he wasn't looking at her face but her soul. Her breath almost stopped as they bore into her. The well-built stranger easily took her naked form in his arms.

He must have realised her state as he lifted her out of the water for he didn't look at her direction after. He simply carried her to the shore like a rag doll and dropped her down on the soft wet mud still not looking at her. Geet was now conscious about her nakedness and looked around.
"My clothes, where are they!", she mumbled awkwardly.
The stranger arrogantly walked towards his white horse.
(A bloody horse rider at this hour !!! wondered Geet!)
He unfastened a leather belt and took a material that looked like a cloak and threw it at her. He didn't wait to hear her mutter a "Thank You".
He swiftly climbed on the horse without looking back or asking her if she needed anything. Geet looked at the cloak and decided to wear it. She wasn't sure if it was because she was wet or if the temperature suddenly dropped but it sure wasn't that cold when she came here. She wrapped the cloak around. She had never seen a winter wear like that. It kept her warm. Perhaps, it was some real animal skin. She inhaled the masculine scent as she fastened the knots that covered her torso but exposed her lower body dangerously.
"God! where are my clothes and phone? Where is Dev anyway?"
She called out, "Dev.." and walked to the place where her car was supposed to be.
Not only was her car absent, there was no such muddy road. Instead it led her to the thick jungle from where there was no telling which way was the exit.
There were only trees everywhere. Did the stranger carry her to the opposite shore? But the pebbles, the banyan trees hanging down to the river were all the same.
Geet clutched the cloak to her chest. "Where am I?", she asked herself. There was something seriously wrong with the whole place, but what?
Only time would tell!
