CHAPTER 15

Maan took a glance of his bare feet and looked back at Geet as he realised what they were about to do.

Having cleared all misunderstandings and confessed their love for each other the previous day, they mutually decided to go on their first official date, with the day being a Sunday, hence both being free.

Maan, wanting to make this perfect for Geet, suggested for a Seafood-Restaurant near the beach at sundown, knowing her love for the beach. A table for two in the light dimmed restaurant, the evening glow from the sunset, the at-times warm, at-times chilly breeze from across the sea, two flavoured-lit candles, slow music playing in the background... and her... in all her gloriousness.

No sooner had they got done with their dinner that Geet suggested they walked till the bonfire by the water... bare-footed.

"Geet!!! Is this necessary???!!! I mean aise nage paon??? Can't I keep my..." Maan tried his luck but to no avail.

"Oh C'mon Maan, just who walks all booted on the sand. I mean seriously???" she shot a look of disbelief in his direction. "Trust me Maan, it will be fun. Zindagi inhi choti choti cheezon se banti hai. And then, there's always a first time, haina?" she tried convincing him.

The smile on her face was enough to make him agree to whatever she says. "Let's walk," he said, as he took her hand in his. As they walked onto the slightly warm sand, hand-in-hand, a certain natural comfort settled between them. They discussed openly about various things and shared many moments of laughter by the time they reached the bonfire.

As they sat down for a while, Geet didn't miss the loving looks Maan kept giving him. She looked sideways, feeling a bit shy. She couldn't help but wonder how few things changed between them since the previous day. She had started blushing and feeling conscious around him. She was still lost in her thoughts when she felt Maan's palm on her cheek.

Out of reflex, she turned around to face him.

"Geet!!! Can I say something?" he asked for her permission.

As she nodded positively, he continued.

"Geet!!! You are very childish, you know that?" he said, letting out a chuckle despite the fact that he received a glare from her as she crossed her arms around her chest in mock anger, and gasped, loud enough for him to hear.

"But I love this about you," he reassured her with a wink and then placing his finger on her lips to prevent her from talking in between of what he was about to say, he continued, " You eat those oily parathes with curry for breakfast, you chip your nails out of nervousness, you like eating McDonalds happy meal in a messy way, like a kid, you're a latecomer, you like cheesy romance, you have a messy wardrobe, you believe in lashing out and fighting rather than talking and sorting and not to forget you have an IQ below 100," he said the last bit in a very low voice but the glare he received was enough for him to know she did not miss that, "but you also bring out the playful side of me, you blush when I look at you, you smile back when I smile at you, you are able to find beauty in even the smallest of things and teach me how to appreciate them, you hold back my hand like you never want to let me go, you are not scared of me, you made me realise how I can be as silly and crazy as you without worrying what you will think about me, because I know you won't love me less," he said as he looked at her with all the love he had for her.

The initial anger that Geet felt was soon washed away by a warm feeling. She knew how Maan always struggled with words and to hear all this from him, was indeed a pleasant surprise.

"M..." she tried speaking as she removed his finger from over her mouth.

"Ssshhh," he again silenced her, as he stood on his feet, taking her with him. "Geet!!! You're one of the craziest person I have encountered in my life, and yet the loveliest. I love you Geet... because... I love you..." he finished in the huskiest voice ever.

"Geet!!!" Maan said as he went down on one knee. Geet could feel her heart thundering as she realised what was coming next. It was not that she was not expecting this but this soon???!!! Her eyes brimmed with tears as she anticipated what he was about to do.

"I want to grow old with you Geet, I want to wake up every day with you by my side, I want to pamper and love you for the rest of my life. I want to marry you Geet. Will you say Yes to forever' with me?" he popped out the question, anticipating a positive response as he held out a ring in her direction.

Overwhelmed, all she could so was nod in positive as she extended her left hand towards him. Suddenly, her expression changed as she processed what he was actually holding. Was that a ring???!!! Out of tissue paper???!!!

Catching her expressions, he knew what she was thinking about. Embarassed, he tried clarifying, "Actually Geet, I didn't plan on proposing today, toh I didn't have a real ring. So it was all done in the spur of the moment. Aaj ke liye issi se kaam chala lena, I promise I'll get you one of your choice tomorrow," he said as he still held the piece of tissue paper which was neatly pleated and folded in the form of a ring. Amazed by him, Geet started laughing. Who would have known about this side of Maan, she wondered. Touched by his sincere confession, she again extended her hand for him to slide the paper ring' onto her finger.

"Oh no Maan!!!" she tapped her head as Maan stood up.

"What happened?"

"Lagta hai, kal tak I won't be able to use water," she said in all seriousness.

"Why???"

"Meri proposal ring kahi ka nahi rahegi, issiliye," she teased him which did bring a chuckle from him too.

"Waise Geet!!! I just said sooo much to you," he emphasised on *so* to tell her how much, "and apart from few tears, and a blush, I received nothing," he pretended to be hurt as he placed his hand near his heart.

"Awww!!! Baby is hurt," Geet blinked her eyes at him. "Well, I guess, I love you!!!" she added as she pulled his cheeks from both side.

"Ouchhh Geet," he yelped in pain while Geet rolled his eyes at him. Just who gets hurt with this? Sangat ka assar, she told herself as she realised that her dramaqueen-ness settled in Maan as well.

"I love you, I love you, I LOVE YOU," she said as she again pulled his cheeks, ignoring his *pain*. "Ab tum kaho," she added.

"What!!!"

"Maan!!!!"

"I love you too Geet!!!" but instead of pulling her cheeks, he slammed his lips to hers and gave her a sloppy kiss which lit her brain on fire, with the warmth spreading throughout her entire body as she kissed him back, while his hands roamed all over her back. It was a kiss, which sealed the unsaid promise they made to each other under the moonlight, the promise to be with each other, the promise to stay with each other, the promise to love each other... till death do them apart.
