and

if geet is shown in a grey shade and maan is a nice guy then too he is bashed..

according to me people sometime gets judgemental too that geet can't be wrong ...

i don't know how but this I have seen in many stories

Hey Suhaana. Thank you for dropping in your views.

Since I have just recently read your story "A Second Life" I totally understand what you are saying. I love reading about second leads as much as I love reading MG. There is nowhere written that a story has to be MG centered. And the surprising thing is there have been so so many times that I have ended up loving second leads more than MG.

Maybe yes, Maan has got bashed as well. Though I have never come across unreasonable bashing of his like it happens with Geet. And I can bet, that his bashing might have never reached to the level where a reader is calling him characterless or giving him names like man wh**e which only Geet gets here. I am talking about bashing where it's due. Cos I believe there have been no one other than me who have bashed Maan where he is a complete jerk. 😆

Its totally unfair when they deliberately neglecting other characters.

Thanks for posting your view. Hopefully readers will start accepting side character as well.

Awesome thread Sanjana👏
I appreciate you for making this post. I totally agree with what u said. Especially in the second post I agree totally from 4 th point😆. I have already discussed this issue with u. Most of the writers and readers are ready to accept a flawed Mann who is a play boy sleeping around with random s**ts. But unfortunately this consideration vanishes when comes to Geet. I must say Geet's VIRGINITY is over rated. Every one even the writers wants Geet to be a virgin naive girl waiting for Mann to take her!! This idea shocks me. If Mann can fall in love or say sleep with another women then why can't Geet do the same. I m hell tired of seeing Mann with Sameera, kimeera , linda kinda blah blah... And poor Geet is waiting for her prince charming for ever.

The show was different in that case (GHSP)atleast Dev took her virginity before Mann😆. But show wala Mann was a much better guy. You know what I cried my heart out reading.a story in whicch Mann and Geet are very happily married and after 10 yrs Mann cheats on her 4 times and he didn't had a reason for his infidelity. I cried because they united. I desperately wanted them to divorce. But may be due to fans pressure writer change her actual story and unite the couple. Which broke my heart. I am mentioning it because I still re read the story sometimes. And there are a lo of other stories like that. I am asking if Geet did cheat on Mann behind his back the is that acceptable? ?

Leave that. . I agree with u about the comment part. I try to write a cimment for almost everything I read. But I am yet to read thores of love because of lack of time. I am quite busy these days. Will catch it later and comment for each chapters. I couldn't stop mysef from posting this comment because this is something which haunted my mind for a few months..

Once again thanks for this discussion thread

yup , bashing is somewhat for maan but yes all the time or say most of the time geet is being targeted , some stories have really bold geet and really love those
don't know why readers don't accept this kind of characterization
why they are biased ..

due t o this some beautiful ffs are being shifted to blog

Hello. Good Morning :)

On IF, I'm a reader not a writer. so my comment/response here is from a reader's POV...

  1. Well in the start of very story, FF or SS it is difficult to get a 'bigger picture' of what the story is going to be about because in the beginning Writers are trying to explain the characters and how they are related to one another, I like to call it the 'Introduction Phase'. At times, Writers don't even give a Prologue or if they do, the prologue is either too short or it is simply too brief that you don't really get the idea of the story. So if you ask me, I like to read a few updates before giving my POV simply because i want to get a better understanding of the story. So when I start reading a new story, I will definitely like the story and I will comment but my comments are usually like "Great start. Can't wait to read more." Once i get a better understanding of the story only then I give my POV about the story or the characters. About the disappearing, i can't really comment on that because when i start a story i definitely would want to read how it ends.
  2. Personally i think that Sub-characters are what makes the story more interesting and i love reading their POV or their stories too. When I read a story, I don't just read it because it is a MG story but i read it because of the storyline. So for me, MG are just names. What i like to read in a story is how the characters develop, how the story unfolds, how the relationship grows and etc etc.
  3. I definitely agree with you here and i myself i don't understand why it happens so i can't comment on it...
  4. Okay now this "issue" has always been something that I completely don't understand and also something that i totally disagree with. I know that these are fiction story that writers write about but if you think practically and if you put yourself in the character's shoes, will you be able to forgive a "Guy" for abusing you, raping you, treating you like trash, disrespecting you etc etc. I will never ever forgive a guy if he does that to me. In fact, i will never tolerate this stuff. I'm totally 100% against these stuff. So if Writers are going to write about this type of things, I would definitely want to see justice given to the victim. I believe in EQUALITY so i think that explains my POV for me.

I like reading different genre of stories so I'll definitely encourage Writers to write something new. As for comments, I think every reader should take the initiative to comment on an update that they have read.
I'll use myself as an example here, Im going to be having my Mid-Examination in 3 weeks so i can't be on IF all the time. So when I'm not studying, which is during my break time only then I open IF and check the updates. After reading an update, I do take the initiative to comment. Even though it is just 2 lines, I still comment to let the Writer know my POV and that i have read the update. So I encourage all Readers to comment.

Hi. Good Afternoon.

Well my post is mostly from a readers pov. I have started writing just a month ago. But the questions I have asked in my post have been nagging me since a year now. Never got the courage to come forward and ask it openly. But now that when I am friends with writers on personal level, I did ended up discussing their stories and characters with them and they have been really amazing showing equal enthusiasm responding to my honest views on their stories or characters. A comfort level has grown obviously and I dont mind being frank with them. Sometimes I just bash the grey characters for fun and they understand when I am serious or when I am kidding. Of course I came to know about the bad experience that I have shared in my post through them. Knowing that a writer was bashed simply cos she showed Geet moving on with her own husband did shocked me. I could never imagine that readers can be so obsessed with Geet's single status and hate her for having sexual relationship with her own husband hence I gathered some courage and posted this finally.

I understand what you said in point one. With me, I have ended up reading new stories when they are in the middle of it. So of course I get a good idea what the whole story is about and if they intrigued me, I waste no time in finishing it so that I can comment and follow it regularly. My experience with a story right from its start has been very less. There are already so many stories that are updated daily and cos of my habit of posting long comments, one or two hours easily passes without even realizing. That habit of mine has a backdrop since I dont have time to read new stories. I have missed reading some really amazing piece of writing. And then I have friends on FB who suggest me good old stories of MG that again I dont have time to read new ones. That one thing alone makes me wish I were on Geet Forum right from the start.

@Point 2 : I agree, subplots makes the story more interesting. There was time when I used to read stories only for MG. But once I started understanding the characters, I have grown up myself. I became open minded, I started giving long detailed comments and mostly importantly the character's misdeeds helped me a lot to set my own firm perspective. Maybe I have been unlucky that most of the stories I read has playboy Maan and selfless Geet who loves him unconditionally which now makes me run from such concepts.

@point 4 : Thank you so much for saying that. I am myself a very proud girl so I really dont tolerate shit thrown my way. I believe in giving it back equally. No matter who the person is. I love Maan as much as others do. But if you show him doing wrong things to Geet even if it's a mere fiction then I would only request for a justice to Geet's character as well. Fine I understand he is a protagonist so he can't be send to jail for raping Geet, but at least be practical enough to now show Geet falling for her rapists. Cos no way in hell a girl can accept ir forgive her criminal let alone fall in love with him for ruining her entire life. I love to read dark stories but when they go overboard it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. All I can say is we are woman ourselves, so at least dont show a protagonist raping our female lead. It's obviously a request and I am not forcing anyone to follow it.

Thank you for posting your views Lynn.

I never read those stories. In fact I would really request writers to refrain from writing such stories where Maan is a rapist...It repulses me no end...

In fact I love stories where Geet is independent, brave and stands for herself. Being faithful to partner/spouse is important ...Cheating ones partner is not good but if Maan is allowed to do that , then so should Geet.

Gender equality is the need of the hour. Small efforts go a long way and if we must start from the forum itself.

And writers must have the freedom to write as they have envisioned.

I do not read stories of all the writers...and try to comment as much as possible. Some stories touch your heart and some don't...there is no fixed rule to that. However, I have also been guilty of not responding but now that I understand how much effort every writer makes...I do try to pen down a few words for the stories I read. I appreciate the efforts writers make in keep MG alive in my life.

I do not read stories in any other forum so do not know the experiences of writers there.

Regarding side characters...as much as I love MG, I know these characters add a ton of value to the story. Otherwise how can a story have 50+ parts with just MG scenes. They are a much need characters of the entire plot.

I do want to take this opportunity to thank the writers whose stories I have read for their efforts, hard work, creativity and for keeping MG alive in my life. there is no other character who has touched me so much and I am not even interested in reading about others.

THANK YOU for this thought provoking post !!! Long live this forum!! and for that We MUST MUST appreciate all those writers who write GOOD stories where both MG have equal rights, where Geet is as independent as Maan, where she has equal rights to refuse a rapist/abusive/philanderer Maan and move on with another guy.

Thank you so so much for posting your views on this thread. And thank you for mirroring my thoughts. I am not saying my opinion is 100% right. But it is simply on the basis of what I have observed over 2 years on this forum.

I actually don't mind a playboy Maan, it's one creativity and if they like to have Maan as a Casanova I am good with it as long as he is shown loyal. If he cheats, abuses, tortures, rapes and it is happening in an ongoing story that I am reading then I do hope and request writers to show him paying the price of his sins. Cos I am not a reader who just reads for the sake of reading. I read stories when I see a character has a potential to grow, I read for its content not cos it simply gives me MG. So of course when the character doesn't repent I cant accept him and that is why I ended up losing interest in such concepts altogether.

However, rapists Maan is a different story. If a writer wants to give a rapist Maan under dark genre then I don't have problem with that as well. But yes, they should all mention about it on the first page itself. Cos when I ended up reading a story with rapist Maan, I was disturbed for days. The thought that a girl is actually living with her own rapist under same roof and in fact is loving him selflessly gave me creeps.

My intentions are not to snatch away the right from any writer out there from writing a dark story. All I request is to put a note in the first page so a reader knows that she is getting herself into.

And just like u I would be confused even den...a good story is incomplete without twists..and .other characters...and the main leads can be protagonists or antagonists. ..or even a grey shade character...it becomes mundane if maan is always the perfect boyfriend / husband / lover ...and der is a transformation in him...after he has been a complete bad ass...and Geet is always the innocent girl oblivious to the big bad world out der...
the stories like abhi nahin aana, come undone, collide, nothing without you., khumaree season two...all these are some very fine piece of work... All of it are unusual stories on dis forum and the writers took liberty in coming up with a different concept...its different experience not only to the writer but the reader as well...one should respect the writers effort either by supporting them and if de don't like it...de should just stay away...!!!!...but "" hate comments and pms:"""...dis is SHOCKING...like seriously ...????after all of which our dear writers still continue to be on dis forum...for the sake of keeping the spirit of the forum alive and for the other readers...and I guess I know the writer of Geet karan and maan story...I too remember the writer summing up the story and discontinuing it...I was disappointed as well ...but I had never ever thought DAT the writer would get hate PMS... If I was der...I would have quit den and der. !!!!! ...hats off to dat writer ...I am feeling so bad...
And even I agree ..why are the characters and the story stereotyped...I dunno may be someone are used to only such concepts. ...and de cannot welcome nice changes...being a gal...I can't understand how can a GUy be let off the hook and not the girl for the same deed...
.I am not a reader at all...and got introduced to it only on dis forum...and honestly I have loved it sooo much...It has expanded my horizon...and I am ever thankful to writers over here for some awesome stories...and for der entertainment...
And coming to the comments ...yes even I have seen the two Worded comments...and not to forget recently even the comments are copied...and some comments are summary of the update...
...if the response is nil...moving to blog is completely justified... even I would request the gals...plz show some interest in ur feedback...it is worth the efforts of the writers...I know some may not be very good in giving feedback...((even I am not very good at it)) ...still u can try and at least tell wat u liked in the update... Which scene was nice...bout the character...suggestions ...etc ...
Lastly ...again a big big big big kudos to sanjana for bringing up dis issue...its like an eye opener...adreesing an issue which was not touched by anyone so far...
And a bigger bigger bigger bigger kudos to the writers for der spirit and motivation in spite of so many problems...:):):):)...

Bhai tehelka.com ki yaad dila di iss post ne... 😆

I won't be saying anything about likes, comments and shifting to blogs. Enough has been said and done in this regard yet the problem remains same! Relations are always reciprocal and same goes for reader-writer relationship. If reader want story on IF they need to pen down their views and writers need to be responsive to the comments they get on their thrrads! That's wot reciprocal means not that an update is given in turn of the comments. No.

2ndly and most importantly, mind should be open to all ideas for writing, reading. I personally have no liking for dark fictions so I don't read much. But both characters of MG have to be treated equally. Biased nature wouldn't do justice. The problem is people suffer from prejudice. They can accept a man in all shades but a woman has to fit in the age old criteria of woman i.e. Sati Savitri. A man ia acceptable if he's many women man but a woman should be 1 man woman. Kyu bhai theka le rakha hai kya sari women ki sexuality ka?? Why can't a woman has more than 1 non platonic relationship? We don't mind Deepika Padukone dating many men but if Geet's character is flipping from 1 man to another than itis wwrong, why so?

Also, getting judgemental is very wrong. Just like in a film writer has cinematic liberty same way a fiction writer too has that liberty. Getting cynical about a writer or story or character is pathetic! It not only demoralises writer but also hampers the reader's liberal attitude.
Readers can accept Maan as rapist or something but at the same time they want Geet to be completely honest and devoted to Maan, this is sheer HYPOCRISY.. Also there is absolutely no nees to imagine your own self in place of character because if you do so you will start getting judgemental coz you will this is unethical, wrong I can't be doing something like this and hence the disliking for character erupts.

So guys, sau baaton ki ek baat hai... read but read with open mind and don't bash anyone if you don't like something rather feel free to move on from the story!
