Chapter 3
'Hello' a sleeping Geet answered deep in slumber
'Kya' was all she could say with tears running down that lovely face of hers.
It was a week that both her father and her uncle left her, yet she could hear their laughter, feel their presence but the raw truth was they left her. They left her to survive alone in this world, they left never to return. Didn't they say they would decorate her, dance with her and do her biddai. Then how could they just leave, she wasn't married yet. How can they just decide for themselves, she wanted to go with them but she was still here, all alone. Scared and frightened but her father and he uncle didn't care, they left her. All she had now was Nakul kaka, she knew she had to hold onto him, as tight as possible so he can never leave her. 2 days after her engagement, her life supports were snatched away from her, never to come back. Mohinder and Raj died in a fatal car crash, police informed that some hooligans went joyriding and collided with their car. Killing both of them on the spot. But who could make the daughter understand, that once life is gone it never returns.
'Beta kuch ka lo, it's been a week and yet you haven't eaten anything properly' Brij tried again, he was worried for his baby sister who wept all day and locked herself within not showing her inner self but could he blame her, no! Brij was much older than Geet, she was only 12 when he moved to Delhi so they never shared a close relationship.
'Veerji please I'm not hungry' he could hear her voice break, he hated himself for her state but again he could nothing put to hold onto her. He was only happy that Nakul kaka informed him immediately and he could catch the next flight back to support his sister, to perform the last rites for his father and to finally take hold of his household which he felt in his desire to be a big man and his blind love for his wife. Naintara also joined him, again without Pari who was staying with her mama. Even then Dev didn't come, unfortunately the phones were lost during the accident so one knew how to contact Dev. No one knew nothing about him apart from her uncle and her father who left without leaving a trace of Dev. So Brij set alight Raj uncle's pier too, Geet kept the ashes safe knowing Dev would like to perform that at least since he missed everything else. But this only gave Naintara more reasons to establish how true she was about Dev being the careless, carefree types and how wise it would be if Geet forgot the fact that she was ever engaged. Little did she know or actually care what her words were doing to the poor soul who lost her whole world.
'Kaka I'm taking chotti with me to Delhi, I can't leave her here. App ne dekha na woh kaise woh gayi hai' Brij informed Nakul of his intention knowing the old man would be able to make Geet understand.
'Beta your right, maybe a change in atmosphere will do her good' Nakul had no other option but to agree. He saw with his own eyes how his girl was going deeper into depression, further away from him. Although Nakul helped Mohinder raise both the kids, it was only Geet who treated him like a father figure, Brij saw him as a mere help probably influenced by his wife's lifestyle but Nakul held no remorse and loved both his children.
'I'm not going anywhere leaving my family, I can't leave Nakul kaka verji' she voiced her need to her brother pleasing Naintara who didn't want Geet to move in with them.
'Beta try to understand I can't leave you here' he spoke silently holding her hands firmly
'And I can't leave papa here, I can feel his presence, I can hear his voice, I can see him here verji. I can't go, I just can't' she said breaking down giving away to her knees but before she could fall to the ground Brij caught her and held her to himself. He needed her to join him, for his own guilt, for his own conscious.
'I can't leave you here alone' he made her sit down onto the sofa nodding at Nakul kaka for help, no matter want he wanted his sister with him. With his father gone, Geet was solely his responsibility and now he knew what it felt like being a father of a girl and if anything he saw his Pari in Geet. So as a father he needed his baby with him, he needed to guide, protect and help his little baby sister. This time he didn't want to fail.
'Beti your brother's right, how can he just leave you all alone here'
'But I'm not alone, your here kaka, papa's here and Raj uncle then how can I be alone' she said crumbling into Brij hugging him tightly letting her tears wet his shirt. She just couldn't imagine life outside of Hoshyarpur.
'Beti how long I'm I going to look after you, I'm old myself aur waise bhi I was thinking to go to the pilgrimage to pay homage to your father and Raj bhaisaab' Nakul quickly said to persuade Geet knowing she would never leave him otherwise.
'Then it's sorted Geet with join me and Naina back, please chotti apni Bhai ki liye' Brij pleaded leaving no other option but for Geet to agree. Naintara sat at the table watching all this, withering in anger.
'Uff yeh Melodrama' she said aloud and walked into her room which was a square box according to her. She couldn't wait to go back home to her air conditioned and lavish bedroom.
'Pari baby look who's here' Brij shouted once they entered the Khurana Outhouse. Naina and Brij got married without informing the family as Brij was scared that his father would refuse, so Naina's brother offered a roof over their heads and till date they stayed there. The only difference would be that Brij was now the owner of the house since he brought it off Naina's brother.
'Geet bua' Pari shouted surprising Geet, Pari hardly visited Hoshyarpur and Geet never stepped out of her home town, so it was a big shock but little did she know her brother shared all her stories and pictures, instilling Geet's presence into his daughters life even in her absence. Pari ran hugging her parents and then dragged Geet to her bedroom wanting to show all her new toys, her Daddy said she was her new friend and friends stay together, now don't they. The little girl was soothing Geet's heart, distracting her from the her sorrows.
Pari was really excited to finally have someone who she can play with, her parents were always busy but she did have her mama put he never let her do half the things her bua was letting her do like laying on the grass and making carpet angels, reading fairytales or eating sweets. Her mama was very peculiar but she still loved him.
Geet and Pari were in the garden playing when suddenly a dozen of cars entered the premises and stopped at a distance near the other mansion. Which she knew belonged to pari's mama, aisa Pari me kaha when Geet asked. She never understood why her brother lived near his in-laws, well to be frank they were next door neighbours. It was just bizarre. The Khurrana Mansion was way bigger and more extravagant then the Outhouse. The amount of cars wasn't the only shocking thing, mens with bulging muscles carrying all sorts of weapons was the thing that scared her the most. Them wearing black wasn't a help either. Just what did her mama do, why did he need all of this protection? She even realised some were holding guns. Geet quickly rushed inside trembling, for a girl who was protected all her life it was a bit too much.
At the same time a man in his late 20s existed the car dressed strictly in black, almost as if casting a dark shadow over the house. He walked in long strides shouting orders over the phone when suddenly his niece playing in the garden caught his attention.
'Pari sweety what are you doing here' he asked through clenched teeth trying hard to control his temper, everyone knew his rules then who on earth tried to go against. Pari was weak and easily suffered from heat strokes, he didn't even want to think about the alergies. This carelesness towards his niece's care only infuriated his already foul temper.
'I'm playing with bua, mama' she answered cutely enjoying her new found freedom.
'Seema' he roared calling out her nanny to teach her a lesson or two about discipline. What he commands are the laws inscribed on rock and no one, absolutely no one is allowed to disobey them.
Maan Singh Khurrana was a name a few people took, but everyone recognised a rising sun, and Maan was more like a raging sun. He was fierce, brutal and pure black, if black was the colour to describe fear, callousness and greed. Then black he was. Can Geet, a falling angel rub some of her light into Maans life or would Maan drag her into his dark world, where he was the king and the judge, where he ruled and where he destroyed.
Next: Fear, Maaneet and Geet in Khuranna Mansion, oh yeah and coffee
