Chapter 4
For the next two days Geet hardly walked out of her room, everything here was so different and not in a good way. Brij came to her every evening, speaking about his daily activities. He always wanted to share simple things in life with his wife, who was always too busy with her sister and brother. So the best option was Geet and this way the brother-sister duo were getting closer, which Naina detested. She couldn't tolerate another women in her husbands life, even if it was a sister. Geet however was coming out her depression, but ever so slowly with Pari and Brij she had no other option. It didn't help with Naina raving on about the missing Dev in her life.
'Geet I'm going out with my friends, my brother would be here in a few minutes. Can you fetch him his coffee, no milk no sugar. He likes it strong' she ordered Geet who was in her bedroom remembering her good old days with her father, Raj and Nakul kaka.
'Naina Bhabi won't it be bitter' she asked silently, she didn't know why but she had a feeling Naina didn't like her much.
'It's called a blank coffee darling, people here like to drink it that way but what would you know, ghao se jo ho' she taunted bitterness getting the better of her, it was extremely hard for her to act sweet to Geet who she thought was an interfering leech, sucking her husbands interest away from her. But Naina was a clever women knowing Brij loved his sister so it was best to accept then be defeated.
'I don't care I want your land Mr Sharma, and what Maan Singh Khurrana wants, he gets'
'NO EXCUSES, look I'm asking nicely warna mujhe force karna bhi aata he. My way or no way. Its your choice but choose wisely, mera track record to bata hai na' Maan warned in a dangerous tone, he got what he liked no matter what. After that he cut his phone, and started dialing Adi; his right hand man.
'Adi I want that land transferred under my name by tomorrow' he shot his instructions over the phone in a loud tone.
'Ask him nicely, warna kareedo uski emotions aur agar phir bhi nahi mana toh keech lo' he was infuriated, raging in anger. No one ever objected his words, people were just too scared. The motto in his life was simple, what he can't get he'd steal, simple and thats what he was exactly going to do with Mr Sharma
'STOP THAT' he screamed at Geet who entered the hallway with his coffee, but fear got the better of her as she heard his cold voice and his deadly threat. Could a man be that shallow?
'I dont want to hear a no, I just want it'
'I said STOP' he shouted again this time looking directly at her, to which Geet quickly held the cup and the saurcer tightly to ensure the cup stops shaking but she counldn't stop trembling. His looks gave her the shivers, so she quickly placed the coffee on the table and tried to run back to her room.
'Do whatever you want but that land should be mine by tomorrow'
'Ruko' he shouted after finishing his call. He was intrigued finding a new girl in his house, yes it was Brij's now but he never stopped referring to it as his. What belonged to him, always remained as his, be it his sisters or his house.
'Who the hell are you and what are you doing in my house' he demanded
'woh main ... woh ... mai.. wo' she stammered utterly scared by the man in front of her, Hosyarpur was a small town with jolly people but here all she felt was fright.
'woh mai kya, speak up I can't hear you and listen, hurry up I don't have all day' he rebuked getting annoyed on the girl for not being able to complete even one sentence, yes he realised she was scared but he cared none, since half the town was scared of him. But what he saw in her was new, extreme heights of fear and terror, this he liked. He liked the feeling of having power.
'main Geet, Brij verji' is all she said before breaking into a run, she couldn't say anything further, this man was totally creeping her out.
'God knows whats wrong with this girl, my house is transforming into an orphange' he said loud enough for Geet to hear and continued to text someone, but this only made her increase her speed and lock her bedroom door.
Unknown to Geet, Maan did taste her coffee and for once he really enjoyed it. He decided there and then that this girl, Geet would always prepare his coffee without even thinking about whether she would want to or not. Well thats Maan Singh Khurrana for you.
It was over 3 week's now, Maan and Geet hardly met each other alone, when ever she found him near her she quickly moved towards her room trying to put distance. But it did nothing to her fear, that increased each day hearing him shout, command and threat. She even caught him pointing a gun towards his bodyguard once, and Maan well he continued his work but away from her. For some reason he didn't like that look of fear on her face for him no longer. She continued making his coffee though since he stated in front of all including her brother that day, when they first met that he liked her coffee and that from now on she would make it, no one thought nothing of it. Brij hardly called her over for family lunch at the Khurrana mansion but made sure she joined his family in the Khurrana outhouse for dinner. He realised his baby sister was too protected, so he would keep it that way. Although with Maan around it was a little difficult, after all he knew what kind of business Maan was related to and truth be told even Brij was involved as he was the Managing Director of the company. But what Geet didn't know couldn't hurt her right, now can it? Over the weeks, Geet's relationship with Naina didn't change, but she found a new freind in Anni, Naina's younger sister. They shared little tales, played with Pari and even watched movies togather in their huge cinema room when Maan wasn't around as everyone by now was aware that Geet was terrified of Maan.
'Beta I'm sorry but I have to go' Brij tried to persuade an weeping Geet. Unfortunatly there was some problems in their American branch and Maan couldn't go due to legal issues, so it was decided Naina and Brij will sort it out since tonnes of money was at stake and Maan couldn't risk being arrested. Money in the Khurrana business wasn't exactly hard earned cash, it was mainly black money made from doing unlawful business.
'Lekin Pari aur main' she asked timidly, she was scared as it is and now with Brij gone, she knew it was only going to get worse.
'You two are shifting to the Khurrana mansion' he said looking directly at his sister knowing she wouldn't like the idea one bit.
'Why its only 5mins away verji, we can stay here'
'no not alone' he said raising his voive trying to make Geet understand
'but'
'please bacha, mere liye. Do this for your brother's conscious, I wont be able to live in peace knowing I left you alone. Aur waise bhi you can stay in the same room as Pari and Anni bhi tho hai waha' he knew Geet was completely scared of Maan but he had no other option.
'Don't give her that, can't you see its too oily. Give her that' Maan shouted at Geet for trying to serve Pari unhealthy food. It was dinner time and as expected everyone sat round the table, Pari and Anni on either side of Maan who sat at the head of the table. Geet sat next to Pari wanting to help her eat but she was not aware there were also rules on what Pari could and could not eat.
'Mamu don't scream, bua is scared' Pari reprimanded her uncle for his folly, Maan knew Pari was upset since she called him mamu usually when she's happy and wants something then its mama. Maan looked at Geet who looked at everthing but him. Just this morning she shifted to his house and already he was asked to change his habit, not that he minded yet but right how he focused on the matter on hand which was how frail Geet looked. Lately he took notice of little things related to Geet, like how she smiled when she was around Brij and Pari or how she tried to hide her unshed tears when Naina taunted about the unforgotten fiance or how she ran when she even heard his voice.
'yeh kaisa khana banaya hai' Maan screamed once again throwing the tasteless food on the waiters, Geet who was new to this got shocked and jumped in her seat. Why wouldn't she, when the man threw dishes at his helpers.
'Mamu don't shout, bua thinks you look like a devil when you do' Pari again screamed at her uncle for scaring her bua. Geet for the next few minutes prepared for the worst, she knew Maan would shout at her or do something even worse. But what can be worse than shouting, maybe he'll hit her. Geet sat there unmoved feeling frightened but what happened next shocked her. All three members start laughing heartedly, Anni and Pari covered their mouths trying to stomach their laughter whereas Maan kept repeating 'Devil' and burst into fits of laughter.
'Kya dekh rahi ho, go bring some decent food or else' he shouted once again after gaining control leaving his threat hanging to scare his waiters and cook, but mostly to scare Geet who quickly started eating her food so she could be dismissed.
