Sahil's cabin

Hey maan! How are you man? I've not seen you for a long time.

Well, after college you left for London and I joined the army. So how is it going? Being a gynecologist and all. You went on your mom's footsteps.

Yeah man! She kind of set me on that. But I love my job. Been doing it for a while now.

Maan sat down. I wanted to talk about geet, Sahil.

What happened? Is she fine? Why is veer not here?

No. She's fine. I just dropped her to college. Veer had to go out of country for work. I just came back. That's why I wanted to talk to you.

What do you mean come back? Even you left the army?

Maan nodded.

What is it with you people man. You join it then you quit. What are you going to do with the rest of your life.

Maan looked at him with a blank face

"Ok man! No further questions. I'm so used to your blank faces now. carry on with your secret jobs. At least one thing I know is that you make a lot of money!! anyways what about geet? Why are you asking about her?"

We are together now Sahil. And I need to know about her health issue now. In details. All the medicines she takes and everything about her treatment.

Sahil looked at him for a moment and then he got up. Let me go get her reports. When he came back his cell phone was ringing.

Hello.

Hey! Sahil! It's Veer. I have to be quick. Listen to me. Maan is coming to mee...

Yeah...I know. He's here already. Don't worry. I already got the reports.

Oh...so you know about him and geet then!

Sahil looked at maan and smirked. I always knew he loved her. it didn't come as a surprise.

Maan threw him a glare.

Ok bye. I'll talk to you later then. Veer said. Thanks sahil. Thanks for everything.

Sahil sat down. So what do you want to know maan?

Everything from the beginning. Geet was 18 when I joined the army. At that point I only remember that she used to be anemic and did not have her periods very regularly. She had to get blood transfusions every month. But this happens to many girls right? What happened after that?

Ok. Evidently you don't really know much about what happened. Geet had endometriosis from well before maan. Since she was 17. Being anemic helped her actually. She used to skip her periods and thus didn't have to go through all that pain.

Endometriosis happens when unnecessary cells starts to grow outside the uterus. For her it started growing on one of her ovaries and the tissues lining her pelvis. It makes menstruation very painful. The one on her ovaries is not troubling her too much right now. That's why no surgery is required for the time. But I don't know how quickly it's gonna grow and form a cyst or adhesion.

How did she get so sick at the beginning of the year...like 8 months back? Aashi told me that it was because she had skipped her medicines. Maan asked

Well that was one reason. The medicine prevented her from having her periods. But I guess she was just tired and had given up. She stopped taking them and did not tell anyone. She was also very stressed at that particularly time. It just complicated everything and she started bleeding a lot. She didn't tell anyone even though she was in pain. Then I think it became too unbearable and she told Veer. she had lost a lot of blood. she was bed ridden for days in the hospital and we had to keep her mostly under pain medication and sedatives. It was bad.

Maan closed his eyes and opened them again. He couldn't believe what geet went through. "Right now, what is her condition?"

What you need to know is that rite now she is having a medicine which is helping kill those cells on her passage. Those are the tablets that she has everyday. They are strong that's why they make her feel weak sometimes. I prescribed some injections too. Those I told veer to use them only when she has her periods. They are stronger.

And one more thing maan, no sexual intercourse involving penetration for the time being with her. Even if she says its fine. She is still young and she doesn't understand her condition herself.

Is it going to be painful for her? Maan asked.

Right now I don't know maan. As you see, she is much better. But 8 months before, I couldn't even insert a catheter inside her passage. She was crying so much due to the pain. I had to put her under the effect of anesthesia. Even then, she had continued to struggle. So I think yes, it is going to be painful for her. Even Varun was there. He can tell you later.

I wasn't aware that her condition was that bad. That's why I had to ask you these specific questions. We just got together, so I'm not even thinking about taking the next step anytime soon. Now I understand why veer is always so worried.

She doesn't have any fatal disease maan. its just very painful for her. we hope it doesn't get worse. she is still young. Many women get it after they have kids and all. For geet, she has her whole life in front of her. If she has a smooth treatment, I will try to delay her surgery as long as I can. If she is strong enough to hold a pregnancy, she might even conceive and give birth one day. She just needs a lot of support. This thing has a lot of psychological effect on patients.

You came here today so I assumed you are serious about her. But go home and think about it again and take into consideration whatever I told you today. Don't get engaged and leave her midway. I've seen marriages getting destroyed because of this. It's not easy on the other partner either.

Maan just nodded. He had already taken his decision. he had left the army. He was sure about geet. But he sure as hell did not know abut all the stuff she's already been through or she will go through in the future.

Thanks sahil. I appreciate it that you told me everything truthfully. I'm not leaving her midway. I will need your help a lot throughout though. When does she have her next appointment.

Well, I think its in 3 weeks. She doesn't come all the time though. Its just veer who comes to meet me and gives me a report about her. I think she is still scared of me. She thinks I'm going to hurt her.

Then how do you know if she's improving or not if you don't see her.

Oh! Veer calls me every two weeks. I don't need her here to know about her condition. We want her to lead a normal life. Not having to visit doctors every month. But I think Veer told her that she has to come in like 3 weeks. We have to repeat the tests.

I'll make sure she comes. Maan said

I wont see Veer then next time!

You'll probably see both of us. Veer won't leave her for a moment.

Yeah! He is a good brother. I'm glad that he is with Aashi now. He had forgotten that he also had a life. He needed a partner to lean on. Aashi is perfect for him. They make a good couple.

Yeah man, you're talking about my little sister now.

Maan thanked him once again and left.
