PART XI. HAPPY ENDING!
Maan drove as fast as he could to Geet's house. He had to reach there! And he had to reach there fast! When he heard the news from his Daadima that Geet was missing, at that moment he could not understand what was happening. Geet! His Geet was missing! For a second, his heart stopped beating. Then a roaring pain erupted in his chest. Maan was shocked to realize that the pain had come from his heart. It was as if someone had clenched his heart tightly in their fist. He had trouble to breathe for a second. But then his brain kicked in; his brain which had faced enough emergencies in Khurana Constructions that it was easy for it to assert control on Maan. Maan had then charged through his office with his brain compiling a list of places Geet must have gone. His first place to look for her was her house and hence, he drove there. Maan ignored his panic attack and tried to concentrate on Geet through the haze of his emotions. He did not know how many traffic rules he broke in the first few moments but he was thankful that none of the cops followed him as he wasn't sure if he will stop at their directions. Suddenly, his phone rang shrilly against the silence. He picked up the phone with his heart in his mouth hoping for a good news. Instead he was met with silence. "Hello!", He mumbled his heart hammering against his chest. For a second there was no response and then, "Maan?", came Geet's whispered voice. His leg hit the break and his car jerked to stop in the middle of the road, "Geet!", he whispered softly. Then as if drawing courage from her presence he spoke firmly, "Geet! Kahaan ho tum?" He heard her sniffle and then she whispered, "Jaa rahi hoon. Door kahin!" "Kya?", Maan whispered in horror his breath taken away due to her answer. "Apni jaan de rahi hun Maan!", Geet's voice came and Maan felt his heart being squeezed. No! NO! No way! "Nahi Geet! Tum aisa kuch nahi karogi!", he roared through the phone. "Main yahi kar rahi hun Maan! I am jumping from this bridge. Good bye!", she spoke and cut the phone. "NOOO!", Maan shouted. He felt as if the time stood still. For a second Maan did not know what to do or say. He just sat there with shock going through his body. But then something niggled the back of his head. Bridge! Geet has mentioned that she was going to jump from a bridge and there was only one bridge in this area. He felt his energy renewed as he realized that he still had time to save Geet. He turned his car around and drove towards the bridge.
Geet giggled as she cut the phone. Bechaare Maan! Achchi band baji hogi unki! Kitne pareshaan hogaye honge woh! Aisa hi chaahiye! Mujhe itne din sataaya na? Ab bhukto! She giggled again as she sat on a stone near the bridge waiting for Maan to arrive. Daadima had drilled into her head that she should deliberately mention jumping from the bridge as they knew that Maan would get the clue and come running to the bridge. But as she waited for him, she felt guilt swirl in her stomach. She felt guilty for playing with Maan's feelings and lying to him. She was not jumping from the bridge after all. This was just a plot. And even though Maan turned into workaholic to the point of ignoring her, he never played mind games with her. But she! She was playing games with his emotions. She felt tears well up in her eyes as she realized that she had played with a honest man's emotions. How he must be feeling right now? She felt sadness run through her as she realized how worried and in grief Maan must be at the thought of her death? That's it! She won't play this game! Let Maan ignore her for many more days but she will not play this game! One day his project will end, one day he will come back to her and will confess his feelings to her. She does not need to play with his emotions to get him to confess. Par yeh bhi sahi nahi na ki Maan mujhe ignore hi karta rahe. Kya pata yeh project khatam hua toh doosre ke peeche padh jaayenge. Phir toh hogaya siyappa! Shaadi hote hote toh hum dono buddhe ho jaayenge. She huffed at that thought. Par aisa khel khelna bhi galat haina! Ab main kya karoon? Is plan ke saath jaaun ya nahi jaaun? Hey Babaji! Ab aap hi meri madat karo. Aap hi koi ishaara de do ki main kya karoon? Before she could pray anymore, she heard a car coming close and she smiled. Babaji had given her the signal. Maan was coming! Which meant she had to continue with her plan. She ran towards side of the bridge and looked down the ledge. The bridge was on the outskirts of Dilli near a village and was built on a river with flowing water. If she jumped from here she would have less chance of surviving. She gulped, prayed to Babaji to keep her safe and climbed the ledge of the bridge. She stood there and waited for Maan to arrive. Soon, the car arrived and Geet got ready to deliver her life's most important performance.
Maan drove towards the bridge as fast as he could. There were trees planted alongside the road which hid the view of the bridge till the driver of the car passing through came really close. As he neared the car, he saw a figure dressed in yellow Patiala standing on the ledge of the bridge. "GEET!", Maan let out a roar wanting to stop her. But she remained oblivious to his shout. He pressed the break and ran out of the car before it stopped. "GEET!", he shouted again in hopes that she would notice him. She turned around as soon as she heard him. He neared her and she shouted, "Paas mat aana! Paas mat aayiye mere! Maan! Paas mat aayiye!" Maan stopped scared that she would jump the moment he took a step ahead. Maan took a deep breath as he tried to calm himself down. He was of no use panicking. Any wrong word or moment and Geet might jump, he knew that. He took another calming breath and spoke in a soft voice, "Dekho Geet! Neeche utro! Jo bhi tumhari problem hai hum aaraam se baithke baat kar sakte hain!" Geet shook her head, "Nahi! Main nahi utrungi! Ab kya baat karna reh gaya hai? Ab kuch nahi bacha meri zindagi mein!" Maan frowned, what was she talking about? "Geet! Meri baat suno! Main sab theek kar dunga! Tum bas neeche aa jaao! I promise I will solve each and everyone of your problem! But please neeche aa jaao!", Maan pleaded as he inched closer to her. Geet noticed his movement and shouted, "Mere paas mat aayiye Maan! Rukiye wahin!" Maan stopped moving and she looked away, "Aap kya meri problem solve karoge Maan jab meri problem hi aap ho!", she spoke in crying voice. She thought she deserved an Oscar for standing on the ledge without any support and delivering such a moving dialogue without letting her fear affect her or her voice.
Geet turned to look at Maan and was arrested by the expression on his face. His face took on a mixture of horror and grief and she mentally asked his forgiveness for hurting him so brutally with her harsh words. Maan felt his heart clench at her words. What had he done? He felt tears well up in his eyes as he realized that his actions drove her to the brink of suicide. He shook his head. No! He cannot loose her. Not now when he had just fallen for her! Not now when there was so much of a life to live for! They had yet to get engaged, then they had to get married. And then they had yet to live the life of parents. No! He will not allow her to die so easily. There are so many moments they had yet to go through in love. He took a deep breath. He had to stop her! He will stop her! He will stop her till the last breath leaves his body. "Geet!", he said in stern voice as he placed his hands on his hips and glared at her, "Meri galti kya hai yeh bataao! Yeh paheliyaan mat bujhaao!" Geet huffed. Dekha Babaji! Main maut ki kagaar par khadi hun aur yeh hain ki mujh par hokum chala rahe hain! Ab toh mujhe koi guilt shilt nahi hain! Ab toh main chun chunke badla lungi! She made a crying face as she looked at him, "Aapki galti kuch nahi hai Maan! Sab galti meri hai!" Maan absentmindedly wondered whether it would be wrong to roll his eyes at her dialogues. First she says that he is her problem and now she says that it is her fault. Kya yeh ladki ek baat par tiki nahi reh sakti? Before he could say anything, Geet continued speaking, "Galti meri hai jo maine aapse pyaar kiya! Yeh socha ki aap bhi mujhse pyaar karenge!" Maan looked at her in shock. How could she think that? Especially after their date at the Dhaaba. "Geet!", he spoke in shock, "Yeh tum kya bol rahi ho?" "Aur kya bolun?", she shouted at him, this time the anger in her voice being real. She felt all her frustration towards him bubble inside her and she lashed out at him, "Aur kya bolun? Us raat Dhaabe par maine toh khule aam apne pyaar ka izhaar kar diya. Ek ladki ne besharmo ki tarah apne pyaar ka izhaar kiya. Saare lok laaj tyaag kar maine apne dil ki baat aapke saamne rakhi. Lekin aap..." She glared at him with all her anger reflecting in her eyes and Maan flinched at her glare, "Aur aap ko itni bhi tehzeeb nahi ki mere mooh pe bol dein ki aap mere liye aisa kuch nahi mehsoos karte!" "Nahi Geet...", Maan whispered but his whisper remained unheard as Geet ranted on, "Keh diya hota wahin toh achcha hota. Par aapne? Aapne kuch na bolkar mujh mein ummeed jagne di ki aap bhi mere liye wahi mehsoos karte hain jo main aapke liye mehsoos karti hun! Aur phir itne din mujhe ignore kiya taaki dheere dheere meri ummeed tootti jaaye aur mera dil bhi! Aapne sirf mera dil nahi toda Mr. Maan Singh Khurana, mujhe hi tod diya!" Maan looked at her in horror at her words. He did not speak for another moment and Geet felt her heart beat faster. Was she right? Does he actually not like her? Was everything happened in the Dhaaba, the hugs, the touches, the smiles all fake? If that was true she would jump for real because she did not think she will be able to bear his indifference to her feelings. As she turned to jump for real this time, she heard a whisper, "I Love you Geet!" Her eyes widened and she looked at Maan. He just stood there looking down. "Maan!", she softly called his name. Maan looked up as his name was said with nothing but love and hope etched in Geet's voice. He gathered his courage at her hopeful face and said loudly, "I love you Geet!" He saw a ghost of smile on her face and he smiled tenderly at her and said firmly, "I LOVE YOU GEET!" Geet's lips spread from ear to ear as she grinned eagerly. She got down from the ledge and ran at him. He spread his arms wide beckoning her and she slammed into his chest as she hugged him tightly. "I Love you", he whispered softly as he hugged her back as tight as possible. She felt happiness bubble in her heart at his words and tears of happiness sprang through her eyes. She looked at him and mumbled, "I Love you Maan!" He kissed her forehead and hugged her again. "I am sorry maine tumhein apni dil ki baat nahi bataayi! I am sorry maine tumhein itne din ignore kiya! I am sorry! I promise ki aaj ke baad main tumhein apni zindagi mein sabse ooncha darja doonga!" She smiled at his words.
After a while, the lovebirds pulled away from each other and Maan grabbed Geet's hand and dragged her towards the car, "Chalo Daadima ke paas! Abhi jaake unko sab sach bataata hun aur jald se jald tumhein Khurana Mansion mein Mrs. Khurana banaake laata hun! Ab aur der nahi Geet! Aur der nahi!" She blushed at his words and let him drag her. As they neared the car, Geet absentmindedly mumbled, "Waise achcha hua Maan joh aapne apne pyaar ka izhaar kar diya warna mujhe sach much bridge par se kud na padhta!" Maan's breath hitched as her words registered his brain and astonishment bubbled inside him but he continued walking towards the car. He gave her a curious glance and spoke casually, "Achcha?" Geet nodded solemnly not noticing Maan's suspicious glance, "Aur nahi toh kya? Poore plan ki band baj jaati!" Maan hummed in agreement as he narrowed his eyes at Geet. Plan! Yeh ek naatak tha? Geet continued oblivious to Maan's reaction, "Kitni mehnat se plan banaaya tha ki aapse I Love you bulwaaungi...", she stopped speaking as she felt Maan stopping beside her. Her eyes widened and she bit her tongue as she realized to whom she babbled the whole plan. She turned to look at Maan and gulped at his angry expression. "Toh yeh sab ek naatak tha?", Maan spoke in a calm voice. Geet tried to smile but it came out as grimace. She flinched as Maan roared, "Naatak? Naatak tha yeh sab! Tum jaanti bhi ho meri kya haalat hui itne der mein." He grabbed her shoulders and shook her, "Meri saans ruk gayi thi, jaan nikal gayi thi yeh sun kar ki tum apni jaan dene waali thi. Aur yeh sab ke mazaak tha?" He left her arms and turned away, "Jaao Geet! Chali jaao mere saamne se!"
Geet stood there with tears in her eyes, "Theek hai! Chali jaati hun!" After few seconds, Maan heard splash and a scream. His eyes widened and he turned around to see no one on the bridge. "GEET!", He roared and ran towards the bridge. He looked down at the water but there was no one there. "Geet!", he whispered. Gone! His Geet was gone! Suddenly, he heard someone shout his name. He leaned on the ledge in shock as Geet smiled at him. She was hanging by the ledge floor with her legs dangling in the air. "Geet! Par maine toh abhi tumhaare paani mein ghirne ki aawaaz suni!", Maan looked at her in confusion. She smiled sweetly at him, "Woh toh main ek bada patthar feka aapko daraane ke liye!" Maan rolled his eyes, "Toh wahaan kyun latak rahi ho?" As an answer, Geet sheepishly smiled and mumbled, "Patthar duppatte se atka aur main is taraf gir gayi. Luckily maine diwaar pakad li!" Maan shook his head. He had surely fallen in love with a drama queen! Iss ladki ka kuch nahi ho sakta! "Oye! Mr. Khurana!", Geet hollered at him and he looked down. Geet shouted at him, "Ab udhar khade rehke mujhe dekhne ka iraada hai yeh mujhe upar kichoge aap?" Maan scrambled to action and caught her hand. He pulled her up and as soon as her feet touched solid ground, he dropped her hand and turned away. Geet bit her lip, "Kya aap abhi bhi naaraaz hain?" Maan did not respond and folded his arms against his chest. Geet huffed, "Theek hai! Toh is baar main sach much ka kudti hun!" An alarmed Maan turned to see Geet climbing the ledge. He caught her arm and dragged away from the ledge. "Tum na... paagal ho aur mujhe bhi paagal kar dogi!" He dragged her away to the car. She smiled and asked him, "Toh phir aapne mujhe maaf kiya?" Maan rolled his eyes. Geet huffed, "Nahi? Toh theek hai! Main marne chali!" She pulled her hand away from him and tried to walk away. He looked at her in shock and grabbed her hand again, "Haan meri Maa Haan! Maine tumhein maaf kiya! Ab ghar chalo!" Ek number ki nautanki hai! Maan thought as he walked to the car while Geet giggled behind him.
The moment she sat in the car, she asked for his mobile. When he asked why, she replied, "Daadima ko call karna hai! Unhein bhi toh pata chalna chaahiye ki unka plan successful hua!" Maan looked at her in horror, "Daadima ko bhi pata hai?" Geet nodded her head vigourously, "Aur nahi toh kya? Yeh poora plan hi unhonein banaaya!" "WHAT?", Maan roared and Geet flinched. "You know what! Tum ghar jaao! Jaao ghar!", Maan roared as he got out of the car. Geet looked at him in worry, "Aur aap?" Maan glared at her, "Jaa raha hun main! Sanyaas lene! Tum dono nautankiyon se door!" and he walked away. Geet rolled her eyes. Ab yeh nautanki kar rahe hain ya main! She huffed, got out of the car and ran after him, "Par Maan... Suniye toh! Aap kahin bhi chale jaao main aapke peeche aaungi! Arre! Hello! Abhi toh I Love you bola aur ab apni honewaali biwi ko akela chode jaa rahe ho!" Maan ignored her as he walked away while Geet ran behind him coaxing him to forgive the family and come back. And hence started the new chapter of Geet and Maan life with them fighting. They fought when they met and they fought even after falling in love and they continued to fight even after their marriage. And this is how the beautiful story of Maan and Geet happened.
The end!
