Three Years Later
The war was over. The remaining soldiers were returning their homes, some died in the war, fighting to protect the country; to protect their family, their love, their lives, their little nests...
Her father was safe, his old age and his disease helped him to stay with his family, even though he was guilty for not fighting for their freedom, their lives, he wanted to do something, he had signed himself in looking after the injured. She wanted to help too, assisting his father in the medication of the injured and killed. Her little brother, Tommy had grown quite big and he was a growing boy " always gorging himself on some food. Unfortunately not all girls of her age was as fortunate as she was " some their fathers, brothers, sons, nephews, protgs, husbands, son-in-laws were dead, being shot, wounded or killed, in every different way one could never imagine.
She was now nineteen and many girls; friends of her age had gotten married yet she still waited for her courageous pilot to return. He had been sending letters to her mother and sadly Senior Manson was killed after sixty days of fighting. Mrs. Manson was in the verge of a breakdown and had gone in severe depression for about a year and a half though Junior Manson, the pilot would constantly send letters to his mother, trying to remind her that he was with her. The sheriff of the town was gone, so as per the tradition, a capable man would take the position. Sadly none of those men were capable to do so. Lady Manson had only one hope " to wait for the return of her only son, the heir of his father's massive business.
"What are you waiting for?" one day, her mother chided her.
"For what?" she had answered, feigned ignorance.
"Charlotte got married last week, why are you not interested to build a home?" her mother asked while feeding Tommy.
Geet tensed. Tommy sensed the atmosphere had changed and quickly excused himself, saying he was going to get some fresh air. Whenever her mother would have bought the wedding' topic, she would casually brush it off, but it seemed it had to be discussed. Her mother was pushing her buttons for having a family. She did not blame her though " her mother had got married to her father when she was eighteen, they had fallen in love at a banquet when they first met and she had always wanted her daughter to be settled and be happy.
"I don't understand" she sighed hoping she would drop the topic.
"Stop sighing, Gi, you always do that...I thought maybe you were sad that Joshua died that was why you would not want to marry..." her mother trailed off.
Her mother always had thought she had a crush on Joshua Toms, but they had just been friends. Yes, she was sad that her friend had died but discussing it with her mother was painful. It had been a full year that Joshua was dead. She sighed " so her mother thought she was grieved by the death of her friend. She was sad as she had lost her friend but she did not expect her mother to take a deduction without asking her.
"Mom, Joshua and I were just friends. God bless his soul".
"Oh".
The silence prolonged in the living room.
"Jesus, bless him" her mother softly whispered, praying. Her mother stared at her as she fidgeted in her seat.
"Stop staring, Mom, it's rude."
"Missy, don't tell me what to do!" her mother exclaimed horrified. She rolled her eyes at her mother's antics.
"Who is he?" her mother asked after what seemed like thirty seconds.
"Huh?" Geet stared, bemused.
"Who is the boy that stole your heart before going to fight" she retorted slowly as if she had problem grasping the information.
Geet's throat went dry. She had not expected her mother to pay so much attention to her. Her heart was beating faster, nearly crashing out of her ribcage.
"Tell me" her mother spoke softly.
"Maan Manson" she whispered to herself, dazed.
"What?! Senior Manson and Lady Manson's son?" her mother shrieked. She tried calming herself, thinking her mother's words rhymed.
"Yes" she merely confirmed.
"How? When? How did it happen? It was 3 years ago, wasn't it!"
"Mom, stop asking these questions, it's embarrassing..." Geet mumbled.
"Oh my God" her mother gasped. "I need to talk to your father...do you realize that he may..." she did not dare to continue but instead she stared, looking at her daughter's crest-fallen face.
"It's three years Geet."
"Yes" she whispered, more to herself.
Her mother sighed. Clearly her daughter's feelings were mixed up; she was in love with that man. She wanted to ask her so many questions, if Junior Manson would ever acknowledge her existence. Seeing her so heart-broken, she only thought of two things; firstly she had to tell her husband then she would ponder and make Geet see reason. She knew it would be useless; her daughter was hopelessly in love.
6 Months Later
"Have you heard that Junior Manson is back in town? He's talking his father's business, do you think he will get married, he's twenty now" one of her friends spoke as they worked in the Coffee Shop down the street. She had heard from her friends, her parents and her neighbours that Maan was back. He had some terrible gashes that rumour had it Lady Manson fainted when she saw her son. He was going to take his father business.
She was terrified. Would he come to her? Did he still remember her? Or had he moved on? In the last six months her mother had tried fixing her alliance with any man who had returned from the war. Her father had strictly reprimanded her mother saying her daughter was not going to get married to any middle-aged man. She smiled at that thought. She had waited for him but did he...?
It had been four days, seven hours and fifty minutes that he had returned and yet he had not paid her any visit. She was broken, she knew her mother wanted to talk to her. But she had told herself she would wait one month before taking any quick decision. She had waited three years, six month " adding one month would not hurt.
Clearly, Junior Manson did not remember her, she thought bitterly.
"Geet! Geet!" her friend was shaking her.
"Huh? What did you say?"
"You were in la-la land for the past five minutes! Look, isn't it Junior Manson" she pointed to the man, standing in between with his worn-out jeans and black shirt. His gaze fell on them and her friend blushed. But she felt uncomfortable, mainly because Maan was trying to remember her, she deduced the expression on his face, making her heart crumbled into many pieces. He adverted his gaze and continued to talk to the man next to him without glancing at her.
Her eyes were full of tears. It hurt. It hurt too much. She quietly excused herself and told her friend that she was going home.
She walked home, using the same path where they had met 3 years ago, when she was a silly teenager prancing around a butterfly. She quietly laughed at the memory as she brushed her hands on the passing wildflowers.
"Well, I knew I would find you here" a manly, husky voice said.
Startled, she jumped in the air and stared at him with horror. "Do you always plan to scare me away?" she snapped angrily staring at him.
"Geet, I'm blessed seeing how much you love me" Maan smirked crossing his arms. She blushed deep red.
"What are you doing here?" she asked obviously changing the topic.
"You, what are you doing here?" he retorted smirking looking as young as ever.
"You can't question me, I asked first" she said irritated, resisting the urge to stomp her foot. He smiled which made her heart melt.
He did not reply. "How are you?" she asked, her voice breaking.
"I'm okay" he replied still staring at her.
"Stop staring, it's rude" she said blushing.
"I love it when you blush" he smirked "and I'm not staring" he laughed at her flushed face.
"Shut up".
"I've missed this blush, god damn it" he hissed under his breath as he moved closer.
He stared at her lips hungrily. Geet was aware that his eyes fell on her lips and fought hard not to blush.
"Tell me you are not engaged to marry..." he trailed off.
She stared at him confused. "No, I'm not anyone's fiance" she replied annoyed.
"Good" he said cupping her face.
"What..." she trailed off when he saw her leaning. "God, I've been dying to do this" he whispered in her ears. She closed her eyes anticipating the kiss.
He smiled when she did not back away. The sparks were still there. And his lips came crashing onto hers...
After a full make-out session for about 4 to 6 minutes they broke apart. He was grinning at her flushed face. She blushed and avoided staring at him.
"I waited for you..." she whispered dazedly.
"I know" he whispered back stroking her cheeks.
She frowned. What were they now? Would he just come randomly to kiss her or was he ever going to meet her family? Her parents knew and that was embarrassing enough.
"What are you thinking sweetheart?" he asked pushing her curls away from her face.
"What are we?" she asked softly staring at him. He smiled.
"Well, just wait till we meet my mother" he winked.
"I have a question " though; why didn't you come to see me sooner if you missed me that much"
"Well, I had broken bones and a sore back, my doctor refused saying I need bed rest. I tried sneaking but Mom caught me" he smiled as she stared at him adoration filled in her eyes.
"I love you" he said.
"I love you too".
The End.
A?N:This is a Historical Fiction and it's quite boring " I mean generally people like to read modern stories of the society. See ya!I'd like to write more on Historical Fiction
but for that i need a good response.
