Geet switched off her computer and took her bag to leave. It was a long and tiring day and she was happy to be able to go home now. As she went along the empty corridor, she stopped in an instant when she heard some noises from one of the cabins. She slowly walked closer and held her small box of chilli powder ready just in case. When she pushed open the cabin, though, all thoughts of an attack vanished. Yash was crouched down on the floor and crying bitterly. Geet slowly went down and got on her knees. She gingerly put her hand on his shoulder and he looked up. It took him a second or two to realise who was in front of him and then he leaned forward and hugged her while crying more. Geet was shocked to say the least. She did not know how to deal with a situation like this. She patted Yash's back and after sometime he calmed down.
"What happened, Yash sir? Is everything ok?" Yash took a few deep breaths and the shook his head.
"Meera… I don't know…" He spoke in pieces and Geet did not understand.
"What happened to Meera?" Geet asked.
"That is just it, I don't know." And he started explaining all about his friendship with Meera, how he fell in love and was to propose to her. He also narrated that how after he sudden exit from the restaurant, he had not been able to contact her and now she had even left her course incomplete so shortly before her final exams. Geet thought for some time.
"Do you know who it was that came to the restaurant that day?"
"He seems familiar but I don't think I have come across him before."
"Hmm, maybe he was a family member. You see, especially in join families and that, too, more traditionally minded ones it may not be welcomed when a girl or boy go out on a date and dance like that. I am not implying anything but some people may think like this. And about her leaving her course, well, her parents might have thought something before stopping her studies." Yash's face started reflecting guilt. By now, he kind of understood that Meera would not have had to leave if it wouldn't have been for him and his insistence for the dinner date.
"What do I do now? I…" Yash broke up.
"Maybe you could call the university and get her home number or address? I am sure if you explain to the administration they will help you." Yash became hope filled again and in happiness he engulfed Geet in a bear hug, thanking her for her support and advice.
Yash looked at his phone as if he was looking at an alien. He had just called Meera's home. It was clear that it was Meera's family speaking but what stunned him was that every time he called, they found another excuse of not getting her to the receiver. Finally, when he confronted them today, they bluntly refused that there was anyone called Meera living at their home. Geet, who had been standing next to him, looked serious.
"Yash sir, I think you should inform the police. If Meera's family members are not saying anything about her then maybe she is in trouble." Yash agreed and both went to the local police station to file a missing person complaint. The inspector, a Mr Rawat, shook hands with Yash and asked how he could help. He noted down what Yash had to say and frowned slightly.
"Mr Khurana, do you by any chance have a photo of the young lady?"
Yash took out his wallet and removed Meera's photo. He gave it to the police officer who scanned it and retuned Yash the original. The picture was uploading and once done, Geet looked at it. Her heart missed a beat. In the picture, her hair was well groomed and her smile had lit up her face. But the mess and paleness could not conceal her true identity. Geet was happy for a moment when she realised that she had see Meera before but the bubble of her happiness burst when she realised where it had been. Oh no. For Yash and Meera's sake she hoped it was not too late. They had to do something, she had to do something. She had to take up the role she had given up to save another innocent soul.
The request for a leave came as quite a surprise for Maan. The work had started again in Hoshiarpur and his other projects were also going well. There was no reason for him not to grant her a few days off, especially since she hadn't taken a day's leave since she had joined. Geet had not given him a good reason, though, as to why she was going and that made him worry. Since their return from the short trip, she seemed quite disturbed about something. He wanted to ask but as her boss, this was none of his concern.
At home Geet packed her bag. She not much she could take with her. This may even be her last trip. The chances of returning were slim. Oh, who was she kidding, the chances were non-existing. But she had to do this, if for no one then for herself. Maybe after this, she would be able to look herself into the eyes again. Her thought went to Maan for a minute. She had noticed his interest in her. Her heart pained knowing he would worry. For some time, she had actually believed that all this could come true but now reality had hit her. Contemplating what to do, she took a notepad and started writing a letter. It was to Maan, hoping that he would not worry and forgive her once he read it.
